I had been to La Bête before for dinner many years ago, and in my memories the steaks had been…read moregood, but nothing extraordinary. The interior of the restaurant is quite posh and over the top, with dramatic frames around the windows of the cold chambers where the steaks are aging. In fact, my favorite part of the meal was the jerky served in the beginning of the meal. It was delicious! We went to La Bête just to buy more of it in the following years. This time, I opted to drop by their butcher shop to buy some special cuts for Father's Day. I was not alone with that idea, as a lineup had formed at their entrance. Most clients were there to pick up a few items from their butcher shop, with the kids eyeing the live lobsters at the entrance with amusement. I went for the Tomahawk AAA, the Porterhouse AAA, the Kansas AAA and to finish in style, the "Cowboy" wagyu. You can probably guess which one cost the most!. Service was very courteous and speedy despite how busy the shop was. My order took a bit longer than that of others, as many had ordered online beforehand and only needed to pick up their reserved bags. I took my precious package home and proceeded to patiently let the cuts warm up before prepping them with salt and pepper. I won't go into details of the cooking, but it was definitely an exciting experience to manage these impressive and different cuts (we aimed for rare to medium rare). The steaks were delicious! The porterhouse was particularly tender, second only to the wagyu, which was distinguished from the other cuts by its rich umami flavour. Despite what the wallet says, it was a great family experience and my dad was very happy indeed!

And take a look at the meat platter I shared with my friends!!!!! My buddy had a chou à la crème stuffed with a profiterole for dessert, and the thing was as big as my head! Congrats, la Bête! You get a 5 star rating for this fantastic meal.

That said, it's a neat place. If you somehow manage to get a reply, a seat, a menu, and service, this place is supposed to have good food. Sadly, across two trips (May 25-30 and July 13-17) we never (even now) received any replies to our phone calls or email questions ... visit La Boheme instead.

The night started with waiting 35 mins for our server to take our first drink order and we watched that drink sit on the bar for 10 minutes before coming to our table. One would think that the one thing you could expect from a steak house style restaurant is a proper steak. The $98 steak I ordered came to the table beyond raw and was the wrong cut entirely. Their response was to scorch the shit out of my already cut into steak and serve it back to me with a new set of frozen mixed veg that was borderline inedible. The corn quite literally couldn't come off the cob, I watched every persons plate go back with all the vegetables untouched. Even my whiskey came in a wine glass. Whatever goober is running Bootlegger now will be the end of this once great place. Utterly disappointing experience wouldn't recommend to a dog.
