    Neighborhood restaurant.

We enjoyed a wonderful dinner out on the front patio. Tucked away in a neighborhood outside Levi we were amongst the locals and loving the delicious food. Our server made suggestions for places for us to visit and was very friendly.

Wow, wow, wow! A spot not to be missed! My boyfriend and I just got into town for a vacation and we're hungry. Found this place on Yelp and decided to try it. We are so happy that we did. First, we came in with no reservation and Gion was able to accommodate us. Furthermore, we speak no French and Gion, thankfully, speaks English. He sat us at the table and immediately gave us the menus. He proceeded to tell us about the off menu specials which were a broccoli and apple soup as well as this tuna dish with a cilantro crust. We ended up ordering both dishes as well as the salmon, beet salad, and creme Brule. The soup and salad came very fast. Gion was on top of everything. Checked in with us, laughed with us, and just gave off the most amazing energy. As soon as we finished with appetizers, the plates were taken away and the main course came in. Both my boyfriend and I have food accommodations- I'm lactose intolerant so at the very beginning of the meal when the bread was served- Gion immediately suggested to bring olive oil and vinegar. My boyfriend was keeping kosher for passover so he wasn't eating rice or bread- his salmon came without the rice and with extra vegetables. The food was perfect, the service was remarkable, the interior is beautiful, and we were ecstatic. Gion made sure I always had hot water for my tea and was generous enough to give my boyfriend the last of the tequila that was left in the bottle after he ordered it. We are in town for only a few days and while we want to try eating in all sorts of places, we decided that for the last dinner we have here, we will be coming back.

My mother lives in Levis and has been raving about this place for years. She was correct, it's fantastic!

Where do I begin? It was so good we went twice in a short 4 day trip to QBC. This restaurant was recommended by our hotel staff. Better yet, it is located across from The sensational Les Chocolats Favoris. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Everything we ordered was truly amazing. I would go back to this place in a heartbeat.

However, the food itself was quite disappointing. It was marketed to us as a high-end, fancy dining experience, but the food quality was meh. It was bland, particularly the rice and veggies. As for the different meat/protein options, it was alright. Nothing shockingly fancy, each individual sauces does complement the meat well, but not as flavourful as I had initially anticipated. The maple duck drumstick was a cool addition as that's something I haven't tried before, but as you can see from the photo, barely any meat.. portion sizes were also not huge as they strive for that "fancy" dining experience. Trying this once was more than enough.

Also the way the courses came out seemed haphazard. Desserts came out while we were still working on our entrees. And not all entrees came out at once which left some people waiting while others got their food and had to stare. Having said that, the food itself was really good. Atmosphere, location, interior were all great. I had salmon and it was really good. This might not be a place for big groups but it is perfect for a date night. Bonus: There is a nice alley right next to the restaurant for a very insta worthy photo op

Who took exceptionally good care of us. The ambiance is a cross between an old world pub and a higher end steakhouse. A must do on a trip to Quebec.

It took a great deal of courage to consume it. And the "loaded baked potato" for the additional $5, was nothing short of having butter on the potato and it was tasteless and limited to about two small bites. The rest of the potato was just potato. I'd also like to bring to your attention a math trick they use to charge clients more. I usually pay my tip based on the total food/drink bill before the taxes are added as I don't wish to pay a tip on the taxes. When they present the check, the tip amounts shown on the check are actually calculated against the food/drink bill total, which is correct in how I look at paying a tip. However, when they present the machine at your table to pay your bill and you choose to add the 15%, 20%, 25% tip to your check, they set up the machine, unbeknownst to the paying client, to calculate the tip against the entire bill, including the taxes, so you pay more in your tip than what they show on the original paper check. I've never seen a restaurant use this ruse to take advantage of its clients' good will. Example: the bill is $1.00 and the taxes are 30% so the total bill would be $1.30. 15% tip should be .15. So the total would be $1.00 plus .15 plus .30, or $1.45. That is what they'd show on the paper check for a 15% tip. However, when you pay using the machine and choose a 15% tip, the tip is calculated against $1.30, so the tip now is .15 x $1.30, or .195 for a total bill of $1,00 plus .30 plus .20 (.195 rounded) or $1.50 vs 1.45. When you do this to everyone on regular meal bills, the restaurant is making an additional income stream by cheating the clients willingly. They know what they are doing with this deceitful practice. They know that no one is going to question them. In the end, I'd never return there because the beef was disgusting and the blatant thievery. Look at the check that I was given and note the tip amount if you choose a 15% tip; it's $14.40. Now look at my bill after choosing to pay a 15% tip; it's $22.08. Almost $8.00 higher. Multiply this swindle times a gazillion clients each month.
