I stopped by on a weekend and had an amazing time. I met the bartender, Sabina, who shares my name, she was super sweet, bubbly, and had such a fun personality. Adam made my drink exactly how I like it, and it was perfect. Everyone I met was genuinely friendly, and I even got to play a game of pool with the owner, who was just as inviting and down-to-earth as the rest of the staff. Stopped by O'Brien's circumstantially while waiting to pick up our dog from the vet and so glad we did. Service was AMAZING! Michael, the man who runs the kitchen, was more than accommodating. Great guy to chat with, but makes even better food. To quote him, "everything's handmade but the bread." Great patio as well with a huge tree offering shade from the sun and a backyard feel. The girl working at night was she hates her to get a refund on the food only because the service was horrible, and it felt almost prepped our food the way she did because she didn't like us! Visited three weeks ago and had a very disappointing experience. The bartender was visibly drinking on the job, which felt highly unprofessional. On top of that, his demeanor came across as unsettling and borderline creepy, making me uncomfortable during the visit. I was in the area and stopped in not knowing what to expect. I was looking for a place that served food, beer, and offered Oregon lottery. This fit the bill. First impression is that it looked like a real dive with that stale smell of cigarettes...which reminds me of an error of long time ago (ah, nostalgia). Friendly bar tender directed me to pick any seat in the house and she will be right over with a menu. She was very friendly that made me overlook the decor of the place. Ordered my drink, a house salad, and home made clam chowder. I was IMPRESSED by the freshness of the salad and the taste of the clam chowder. Both were VERY good. Even though the bartender was also hostess and waitress (it looked like she had a good grasp of all the tables...not neglecting anyone). I really wanted to give this place a higher rating, being that the food was surprisingly good and the service was excellent.....but the smell was a HUGE turnoff for a place that serves food. Leaving good stars for them, but let's be clear: It's a townie bar where townies hash things out. I'm not from Hillsboro (or even Oregon) and even I know that you don't go to a strip-mall bar like this unless there aren't any other options. It's near a huge intersection with at least two other lottery bars near it, and from what I can tell these aren't places where you go to enjoy good drinks and ambience. You go because you're going to know half of the people in there and you're going to either drink with your friends, bitch to the bartender or get into a fight with somebody. If you like beer, go to ABV or McNally's. If you like a good drink, catch the Max into Portland and go to Kask or Rum Club. If you don't live in a subdivision nearby or work at Intel and hate yourself, don't go to O'Brien's. There's nothing for you here. read more

O'Brien's seems like it could be a cool place, but it's definitely not. My girlfriend and I sat in the restaurant side, after peeking into the bar. The bar side is bizarre to say the least - it's sort of pseudo-posh looking with fake black and red vinyl coverings on all the furniture. It looks like a cheap strip club except instead of strippers there are crusty old local dudes. We sat at a very visible booth, and a friendly enough young lady brought us some beer. That was nice. Unfortunately that was it for our experience. We were abandoned by the wait staff. We sat for about half an hour - no service, nothing, not once did anyone come check on us. Which is a shame because we both wanted to order some food since it was dinner time. So we finished our beer, left a few bucks on the table (god forbid someone get off their ass and bring us a check), and left. read more

So, I used to frequent this dive of a joint out in Hillsboro for the past few years simply because it is about the only place on Washington County with a decent wall of rotating craft beer taps. The food was ok. The crowd was sketchy. And then they shut down several months ago. Now, a couple months later they have re-opened with new owners, a new menu, and still have the great wall of semi-rotating taps. Seating has been cleaned up. The food quality has gone way up, in particular their $.50 wings M-W. They come in BBQ, Teriyaki, and hot. I like them all, but the Teriyaki are seriously good. Why am I writing this? Because Hillsboro is a near wasteland when it comes to finding anything good to eat, and I now feel good knowing there's a decent place to get lunch while I work, and a place to grab a drinkable beer after work. I love this place. From what I hear, this used to be a McMenemins, but the owners had a falling out, so now this is an O'brien's. So you'll notice the menu is exactly the same. So if you like the burgers at McMenemins, you'll like the burgers at this place... My favorites are the Communication Breakdown burger, and the Wilbur's Jumbo Deluxe... However, I love this place more than McMenemins... For one reason.... BEER... I actually don't care too much for McMenemins beer, but this place has all sorts of beers on tap, from local brews, to other domestics, and even imports. They have such beers as Stella, Shinerbock, etc, that other places only carry bottles, on tap etc... I think they change out their offerings all the time depending on what's available. But they have a whole wall of different taps. And a whole wall of bottles of stuff that isn't on tap. So basically this place is like a McMenamins, without McMeneman's brand beer... Alright, let's be real here. This place is a shitty dive bar and thus will be judged as such. And as a shitty dive bar it is great. The drinks are cheap, the staff is nice and the food is decent. On one occasion I asked for a ice cream since I had a hankering for one and since they didn't have any the bar tender served me a pineapple upside down shot. Not a bad subsitution for ice cream. Is a good place to sit and chat for a few minutes or a couple hours, no one is gonna bug you. Also happy hour nachos are the bomb. Well done O'Briens. read more

I've been coming here for years and have considered this home. Things have been getting worse over the last 6 months as there have been many fights breaking out and on several different occasions there have been guns being pulled out and I fear for the saftey of the people and the staff. Just last weekend there was an incident with 2 gangs that were there at Obriens some of which were underage and never were asked for their ID so they were serving minors. The two groups got into an altercation which spilled out to the parking lot where 6 guys were stomping on 1 guy and I seen the bartender and dj guy trying to break it up when one of the guys pulled out a gun and and gestered to the 2 workers to get back. I seen the bartender get on his phone and the DJ came back to the front door to try and keep everyone in the building. They all dispersed as they heard that the police were showing up. Very scary scene and would'nt recomend this bar to anyone that values their saftey... read more

The first time I went to O'Brien's, it definitely had that neighborhood dive bar feel. But I've been back a couple of times since the new ownership, and they have spruced the place up with modern furniture. Now it's like a dive bar with modern furniture...hehe. But I had a lot of fun the last couple of times that I was here. I played darts, listened to good and bad karaoke, danced on the dance floor. There's an air hockey table and one or two pool tables. So a few nights ago a buddy of mine and I went to this bar. We were having a few drinks - he paying cash per drink and I had a separate tab - and shooting some pool with a couple of other guys we'd just met. As we drank and played a few games my buddy became irate over a misunderstanding from one of the other guys and he tossed the cue ball across the table and shouted a profanity... well... the damn ball skipped off the table and rolled to the bar. Noone was hit, injured or anything like that... but the people by the bar made a big commotion and the "manager" (Mr. Refused To Give Me His Name and alleged manager of said bar) gave us a warning. So my buddy apologized and decided to leave so there wouldn't be any further issues. I stayed since I rarely go out. Well... not but 10 or so minutes later I'm engaged in a beer drinking contest with some guys and the "manager" tells me that I'm "done". So I ask for clarification. He tells me, "No more drinks and you need to get the fuck out!" Yes... he said that, verbatim. I ask if he's being serious. He states that he is and reinforces the GTFO, once again. I ask for a glass of water and a few minutes to sober up. He tells me he won't serve me any beverages and that he already told me to GTFO! He gives me my bank card and the bill... somehow, 3 beers, 1 Jäger bomb, 3 shots, and 1 Jack and Coke comes to $68.50... I ask for a detailed bill... he refuses. I tell him he needs to give me an itemized receipt... he tells me again, GTFO! I tell him I'm still pretty buzzed and need some water and time to sober up. He tells me to take a cab. I tell him I live over 30 miles away and am not taking a cab unless he's paying for it. He laughs and tells me to just GTFO! I sternly ask for a water and let him know I will take outside and sober up there. He rounds the bar and starts yelling at me... I maintain my composure and resist the urge to do damage... his bartender brings me a water and he immediately attempts to snatch it away... I pull my hand away, as it's holding the water, and I look at him with disdain as I tell him it's not wise to touch me. I drink the water and head outside to sober up... a few minutes later he comes outside and starts trash talking me... All I have to say is... the bar is shady and the guy running the place is obviously an A-hole. Bar staff should know to avoid conflict with patrons... always redirect and attempt to calm the situation... instead this guy kept trying to bait me... I will never go back which is a shame since this was my St. Patty's bar that a few Marines I served with in Iraq would go to... I know Kells will be more than happy to accept all the Oregon Veterans business! So... I implore you to seek another establishment for appropriate billing and treatment! read more

Just left mcguffy's across the the bartender said its just fried food only refused us fish and chips.The bartender at O'Briens Rae said same then agreed to make us fish and chips huh. Good pub grub - had a chicken burger and onion rings washed down with a coupe of Porters - staff were very friendly and welcoming.

This place is a McMinnamins with a twist, the servers acually come to your table, give a shit, and the food s good. They claim that this was once one of the first McMinnamins but are no longer, but they still retain a very familiar buger menu... but they are much better. I had my favortie, the wilbur, and not only was it $6.25 for lunch with awesome fries, but was much bigger then expected. I will return soon and often read more

This place was loud, chaotic, and felt like highschool.. I am 21 but usually hang out with an older crowd. when I go out for drinks I like to socialize with my friends have a chill/fun time communicate, try different things/drinks and occasionally see some excitement. However this bar was so loud and crowded I couldn't hear myself think! I couldn't really talk unless I was screaming at my friends and I couldn't even here my friends talk to me I had to keep getting closer saying Whaaatt??!! The service was horrible if you want something you need to be front and center at the bar and make yourself aware. They stop serving real food at a certain hour I got there at 11pm.. and the only thing provided had to be something fatty and fried. The beer was just like any other bar and karaoke was annoying.. Went there Friday night,and had a blast:)! Karaoke was good, place was pretty full, no incidents like I read in past reviews! I've come in a few times,and Shaun the bartender is awesome!! I never know what I want to drink,yeah I'm one of those indecisive drinkers lol!! But Shaun,after asking me a couple of questions, always makes me something I like!! Went there for karaoke... bar staff is cool but the sound is tinny and too loud... and the karaoke host Josh was more interested in sitting at the bar than hosting karaoke, so he cranked some repetative music and watched tv... this is after 10pm mind you.
