The hours of operation state M-F until 6. I was there at 4:50 on a Friday. No one there and no note. Bad business move especially since there is no parking so it's inconvenient to get to in the first place. I'll go somewhere else. read more

What can I say about a guy who shows up, examines my very old door lock, and finds it just needs some oil sprayed in. Then not only doesn't charge for the visit, but declines to accept anything for gas. I'd say that's pretty honest and professional. This is the guy you want. read more

In all honesty, I have been using Yelp! for years and the service I received at this business compelled me to sign up for a Yelp! account just so that I could save others from spending their hard-earned cash at this place. If you do a simple google search of this business, you will find that there are other people out there who have received equally horrible customer service from the individual I assume is the owner. I don't expect to have my rear-end kissed when I go to a store or restaurant, but if someone INTIMIDATES and RAISES THEIR VOICE at me when I am a customer, they've gone too far. In a nutshell, I went here to duplicate a couple of keys for my friend who was house sitting. The keys I had said "DO NOT DUPLICATE". Hey, I totally understand if a place wants to refuse to make keys that say this, however, the owner asked me to fill out a "waiver" form and he would duplicate the keys. I said ok and he started to make the keys. As I read over the form, I began to feel uncomfortable with the amount of personal information the form asked for: the address where the keys would be used, my driver's license number and a signature. I filled out some of the info, but not all and when the owner came back to the counter with the keys copied, I told him about my discomfort. His response was that he didn't feel comfortable giving me the keys and would dispose of the copies. At this point he began to raise his voice and say that it was my fault since I read the form before he started making the keys... this was not true. If he wants customers to fill out the form before he makes keys, then it's HIS RESPONSIBILITY to wait until the form is signed before he starts the copies. The main reason I am upset was because of the manner in which he raised his voice and began to act very intimidating. When I then asked for the "waiver" form back, as it had my personal information on it, he grabbed the form and moved it to the back counter stating that it was "his property now". I have taken the time to report this business to the BBB and California Consumer Affairs as this was really un-ethical behavior and I cannot recommend this business to anyone, even my worst enemy read more

Several years ago, i inadverntly requested Obrian's to duplicate my key to my government office. I had not realized that "Do Not Duplicate" was on the key. He threatened me that he was going to keep the key and report me to my employer for trying to duplicate the key. I kept my cool and explained to him that I did not know that I couldn't duplicate the key. After much discussion and he relented and gave me my key back. He stated under the law, he could report me. I later found out that this law does not exist. He was just on a power trip. Really disappointed in him. read more

Can't see what all of the negative reviews for this business are all about. I had to go to three locksmiths to get what I needed (ten keys with transponders) and wound up here. Based on the other reviews, I was expecting to be berated some loner with a chip on his shoulder. What I found was a very friendly professional that put me at ease, got my keys fast, and was flexible on billing my commercial business, even though I was a first time customer. Best of all, the money spent, which for an order like mine is no small sum, stays with a local business that deserves the revenue. read more

My first 1 star review :( not at all my style but I was REALLY disappointed today. I totally respect the integrity this guy has. He takes the 'do not duplicate' thing seriously; handing out keys to my business makes me hope that all locksmiths do. That being said, I was obviously in need of a copy. When he refused I even asked about rekeying the lock for goodness sake - so clearly, this was something I needed to get done. I explained my situation - all I got was a stone cold, not-my-problem face. Since he turned me away I went to another locksmith to see if he would help. Come to find out that the law that prohibits duplicating a key with 'do not duplicate' etched into it goes on to say that it can be duplicated as long as you have something on company letterhead giving such authorization in writing. I don't understand why he didn't want to help. Doesn't it make sense that one would simply share that? He didn't have to cross any ethical boundaries - a little information could have made this a five star review. Not cool! read more

This guy has been in my neighborhood for a very long time; maybe as long as me? (I've been here 25 years.) I had a problem salvaging a pushbutton security door a few months ago and figured he would know what I need to do, so I called him first. He knew exactly what to do with this particular model, I went down there to buy an inexpensive tool and key and followed his instructions and it all worked out perfectly. Saved me lots of time and money. He farther from me than other guys but I'm going to Obrien's again next time. So my ignition key broke in half and every other lock & key place prices ranged from $200-$500 and all quoted 2 hours of labor. A friend told me to try O'Brien Lock & Key and they were able to make a new key for $40 and got it done in 5 mins. Great shop, great employees, and great service! I went into O'Brien's with an awkward request for a trunk key that was for an older model car because I broke it in half! I had been getting quotes from other places for over $185. The staff was awesome! The owner informed me that key that I had wasn't even the correct key for the trunk to begin with!!! The key that I needed was a special pick-proof type key that turns out I had all along in a tin full of keys that the car came with! I had no idea because the key looked absolutley NOTHING like the key that I broke in the first place! NEedless to say, I had a key made and was on my way! I was given a "Military discount" for being active duty Navy and I now recomend O'brien's Lock & Key to all my friends & co-workers!! Thank you so Much. We had a break-in at our local Business. Mike from O'Brien Lock and Key came out immediately to assess how the break-in might have happened and what to do to prevent further problems. We were expecting to pay quite a bit but Mike told us that while he could do the more expensive lock systems that it would provide any more security in out case. He actually recommended a less-costly option. Took about 2 hours and we're back in business feeling secure. GReat job and highly recomended read more

He was very patient and worked really hard to figure out how to get my car started ... copied my key by eye!!... came out to my car and got my car started. My ignition switch went out, but he spent as much time as it took to get it started. I really appreciate this person, and would recommend him to anybody. read more

UNRELIABLE, UNPROFESSIONAL, UNORGANIZED ! We are a local business that simply needed 2 locks re-keyed. I called a week ago and they were fully booked for a week and so we scheduled a day this week for a two hour time frame. When scheduled I stated there was 2 doors clearly since he gave me the estimate of how much it would cost to have it done. When the so called "tech" came in to the office he was outraged with the idea that he had to change not one but a whole two doors. He unprofessionally called out my boss, stating he was only told he was going to change one lock, obviously lack of proper communication on O'Brien's part. Anyway he ended up walking away while my boss turned to answer a call from her boss (the main boss man) to confirm that we arranged two door re-keys which he confirmed. A coworker walked out to go find him and he was completely gone, no call no nothing. I called today the next business day when I came in to tell them what happened, after calling no lie 7 times, someone finally answered and I didn't call till 10:42am giving them time to have their late start. A woman answers and I explain to her the mishap in a very calm professional manner, and she doesn't apologize, she didn't even give me the name of the "tech" that came in, instead she said "we are all booked today, we can re-schedule you," and didn't even have a schedule to refer to, said she had to wait till the "tech" came in. Told me she's call me back, its been 5 hours since, and obviously I do not want any supposed service from this supposed business. read more
