While traveling down Berteau Avenue, a gentleman of LatinX descent, approximately 50 years old with a plaid shirt stopped in front of me, exited his vehicle (in front of me), and continued adjusting a blue wooden sign labeled "Police Line - Do Not Cross". He left very little room for me to navigate around his vehicle and just added to the chaos. He motioned for me to drive around his car. I refused due to the minimal space provided, and he exploded in a fit of immature rage. He seriously had a tantrum. I would have easily side swiped his vehicle. I then laughed at him and rerouted as he remained uncompromising. I contacted the main office of the school to file a complaint, asking them to contact me directly. As of yet - no call. I indicated that I would be reluctant to enroll my child into a school that employs disgusting, angry, immature, misogynistic men.

I love the special classes that they have for all grades. Every child gets the opportunity to learn Arabic, as well as participate in a dance class that teaches everything from modern dance, to tap, to breakdancing on a weekly basis. If students are having trouble in class, then teachers aides take them to the side to work on their problem areas. This is a small school, but that is perfect to ensure that all students receive the optimum learning experience. Fun note: The garden in front of Belding with the picnic tables is a certified wildlife habitat.

The education provided by all the GREAT TEACHERS over the years helped to enable my daughter to be prepared for that arduous task of Selective Enrollment and it got her into Northside College Prep. Academics were great and they did an amazing job offering different levels of math and reading to meet the students where they are at. I also truly enjoyed the parent community - no parent cliques and attitudes, everybody is welcome to help and participate in whatever capacity they can. The principal is amazing and the kids adore and respect her - she is a true gem! The 8th grade homeroom teacher was also incredible, as is the office staff. It was an all around positive experience and it's a school that lives what they preach. The school itself is clean, well set up with comfortable classrooms, great gym, amazing kitchen and a bowling alley! The pastor is wonderful and the kids get a well rounded education and they leave prepared and ready for the next chapter. Tuition is reasonable and a great value. I highly recommend St. John's!

I used to cover up my body and hair because of my culture and because of that I was called a bomber, Terriots, and long nose. most of the guys in the school act very gay, around me knowing that in my culture i can't support LGBTQ2+ and was not allowed to talk or sit next to a boy. they made me feel very uncomfortable, and insecure about my face and nose, which made me hide it with makeup. they would always follow me while screaming and saying I'm gay, which people have spread rumors about me and how I was a pick me girl. because of that I didn't have any friends and would eat in the bathroom while crying. Teachers are horriable. I tried telling the teacher about this multiple times, and the same words she said was "boys will be boys, I mean you do look gay" after she said that those words haunted me throughout graduation. i now do online high school because I'm scared something like this would happen again.

My son has not yet started kindergarten there, so I can only…read morecomment on my limited experiences with the administration and what I've heard from current parents. This is a good school. It's a big school and like all schools in its situation, not everybody finds it a good fit. But the new principal, Ms. Sugrue, has been very responsive and even gave me a tour of the school after I attended an LSC meeting today. She's clearly very proud of all that they're doing and will be doing at the school. The brand new assistant principal also seems like a great addition to the team. What I heard at the meeting seemed to indicate that there is a dedicated team of educators and administration at the school that is working hard to provide a good educational environment with less and less funding and resources. The school facilities were in good condition. They even acquired funding for an art and dance teacher. With more community support, this good school could easily be an awesome school. But any prospective parents should at least reach out to the new principal and start a conversation. I think you'll be greatly surprised, in a good way. I will revisit this once my son starts school there and I have a sense from inside. But so far, things are looking better than I had expected.

This school is safe, spacious, clean, and heavy on parental involvement. The student body is diverse - 60 percent white, 30 percent Hispanic. A small portion of the children here are native Polish speakers. Nearly 50 percent of students are classified as "low income." What does all of this mean? Dever's student population hits a great balance that is rarely found in public schools - one that is highly beneficial for any parents who want their kids to learn in a diverse environment. If you live in the attendance zone for Dever and are debating whether to send your children to private school or enter the charter or magnet lottery, I would highly encourage you to first consider this neighborhood school. Ask to take a tour during a school day - I think that you will be pleasantly surprised.
