This is my local attendance school. My son has not yet started kindergarten there, so I can only…read morecomment on my limited experiences with the administration and what I've heard from current parents. This is a good school. It's a big school and like all schools in its situation, not everybody finds it a good fit. But the new principal, Ms. Sugrue, has been very responsive and even gave me a tour of the school after I attended an LSC meeting today. She's clearly very proud of all that they're doing and will be doing at the school. The brand new assistant principal also seems like a great addition to the team. What I heard at the meeting seemed to indicate that there is a dedicated team of educators and administration at the school that is working hard to provide a good educational environment with less and less funding and resources. The school facilities were in good condition. They even acquired funding for an art and dance teacher. With more community support, this good school could easily be an awesome school. But any prospective parents should at least reach out to the new principal and start a conversation. I think you'll be greatly surprised, in a good way. I will revisit this once my son starts school there and I have a sense from inside. But so far, things are looking better than I had expected.

I am the drama teacher for the new program that started in August. The principal and vice principal are extremely supportive of the arts. We are having our first play, an adaptation of "The Wizard of Oz" that will have two performances: Friday May 30th at 7pm and Saturday May 31st at 2pm. We have a beautiful auditorium and I am thrilled that they decided to start a Drama department at Brentano. This is the best teaching job I have ever had and I am proud of the work we are doing. The school itself is wonderful although the teacher is not. My daughter had openly told me she dislikes that class and feels discomfort with the teacher. She also mentioned that he had draped himself over her closets friend and she explained her friend felt extremely uncomfortable. I am glad my daughter graduated from that school so she doesn't have to deal with that sort of teacher ever again!
