I stayed here from 06 to 07 and forgot to leave a review…read more 1. Let me begin by saying everything is free and they never ask for a tip. Most of the hotels I've stayed in pretty much expect tips and the food is always a bit overpriced- not at Rikers. You can pay extra for "commissary" which is basically junk food and extra toiletries. 2. My vacation started at 100 centre street after two gentlemen and the court system as a whole, decided I should quit my gainful-tax paying lifestyle and spend a few years in the care of the correction institution of NY. Apparently, using prescription medication without a prescription warrants this. I was chained to another fine vacationer and we were swiftly taken by bus to Rike's. I give the bus experience 4 stars for value (it was free) but 1 star for the unfriendly staff. 3. Surprisingly great water pressure and shower temperature. 4. Very roomy and yet cosy cots. 5. The bread (served at every meal time) must be some type of local artisanal or ethnically appropriate recipe because it's unlike most store bought bread or any I've tasted previously. 6. The rest of the food is normal pseudo-American fair, pasta, beans and rice, etc. nothing to write about really. 7. Book selection for reading is average and I got a lot of reading done. 8. They have card games and chess/checkers, dominos etc for entertaining times with your new found friends. 9. Staff. The staff need retraining in customer service based duties. Especially the white shirted "captains". Not sure what they believe to be a captain of...but it sure isn't making the customers feel welcome. They often curse wear frowny faced scowls....it just generally seems like they don't want to work there. Every now and then (if your lucky) you'll get to see a Broadway type performance art piece featuring a neo-modern take on the classic Ninja Turtles. They come out yelling and cursing and telling everyone to lay face down on the floor....oh boy it's exciting!!! They prefer Donatellos character though using the culturally appropriate Bo or long stick type weapon. As a side note, I'd really like to see more variety in the characters played and such different weapons. All in all if a cultural diverse, but gender specific, lots of free time vacation is your thing (and by that I mean non-Anglo Caucasian) I'd say you'll love it.

Everything..... The staff is unprofessional and the food is so bad that a dog won't even eat…read moreit..... They won't let you have personal clothes, yet they give you used jumpers that are to last for your entire time there.... Your locked up 23 hours a day and for the hour you do get, you spend it on the unit because they always give the excuse that they don't have enough staff to take you outside..... It's hot in the summer and super cold in the winter.... I became suicidal because of it all and u definitely don't recommend anyone to go there at all , so please stay home out of trouble and whatever you do try not to get yourself locked up !!!!!'n

Luckily the place wasn't crowded that evening so the process was rather quick. The officers were polite and very helpful. Detective Stewart took me through the step by step process and thoroughly explained what would happen and followed up with me thereafter. The person was apprehended and I just needed to give this precinct and Detective Stewart a big shout out. I know that there is a love hate relationship with the PD but they put their lives on the line every single day and witness unfathomable things on a daily basis. These officers at this precinct treated everyone with dignity from the homeless person filing a report to me and another person. There was absolutely no difference in quality of care or etiquette. I applaud them. It isn't easy being in a field where you are the every day heroes doing great things for people every single day but you get condemn for the actions of some bad apples and have to suffer the consequences. But I digress. I'm grateful. I appreciate you. Keep up the good work!

He rounded the corner and disappeared. I was like, "Wha...? [Expletive] you!" The man waiting for the bus with me let me use his phone to call 911 ("You gotta report this," he said) and some officers from the 6th Precinct picked me up. I hadn't seen the guy's face, only the back of his T-shirt (pink,) but we cruised around the park before we gave up. It's crazy; I don't understand what the kid wanted with my phone, but I guess they were taking anything they could get their hands on in hopes it was an iPhone. (Supposedly there's been a rash of robberies like this lately in the West Village.) As soon as I got the chance, I reported it stolen to my phone company and it was blocked--stupid kid. The Sixth Precinct has been great in all of this--efficient and professional. Wonder what they're like when a real crime occurs--but I don't wanna go there. If that's as bad as it gets, I'll live with it; I wasn't hurt, and the single item taken was totally replaceable.

Hopefully, that person's ID was returned to them. The 19th Precinct serves the Upper East Side of Manhattan. The precinct is one of the most densely populated residential areas in Manhattan. The southern part of the precinct has a large commercial area and features Madison, Lexington, and 3rd Avenues, which are well known for their shopping and assorted businesses. I back the blue as I know they don't have an easy job nowadays, especially with the city politics getting involved

I was walking from the NE side to the NW intersection and the police car was making a left turn onto 3rd. I had close to 20 seconds left on the walking signal, was walking briskly and was very visible in bright colors. At an accelerated speed the police car came barreling into the intersection like it was actively trying to run me over. The driver appeared to have no patience and actually sped up as it was turning in the intersection (with me in the middle of it). After nearly missing me the car managed to drive only about 20 feet onto 3rd Avenue before it got stuck in traffic that was backed up from the red light at 66th down to nearly 65th. What was the rush? Eager to run over residents of your precinct?

Never thought I'd find myself reviewing a police department, but after a series of thefts in my…read morebuilding and repeat trips to the 9th precinct to report them, I feel compelled to publicly sing their praises. Long story short: I live in NYC... I started to notice packages go missing from the lobby of my East Village apartment several months ago -- either my own package, or those of my neighbors (based the ransacked boxes left behind). At first I assumed there was a delivery problem, but after repeat occurrences as well as sightings of suspicious characters lurking around the building -- literally hanging out in the bushes out front, or standing in the lobby smoking cigarettes... Despite multiple complaints to the building's live-in super as well as the management company (shout out Gatsby Enterprises, your 1-star review is coming next), this issue continues to persist, with the most recent incident occurring about an hour ago... So here I am, writing a glowing review for the NYPD 9th precinct while sitting in the NYPD 9th precinct for my 4th time over the past ~6 months. While the fact that I have to be here right now is frustrating, I couldn't ask for better treatment and service. The officers, detectives and staff have been extremely helpful every time I've been in here -- even the times where I only had $10 worth of goods stolen (but wanted to file a report either way, to create a paper trail). I wrongfully assumes that filing these reports would be a painstaking process, but it's been quite the opposite: each and every time I come in, the team treats me with so much respect and takes my issue seriously, even though I'm sure they have much bigger fish to fry. I've never been made to feel silly or unimportant and I've consistently felt as though my safety was their top priority. While I hope others do not have to experience this business, I want people to know that they're in great hands if they do. Thank you to the 9th precinct and all of the NYPD for their service.
