No layers, no angles, just a jagged sad bob that's strangely longer on the right
Lori G.

I got my haircut this past Sunday and am so disappointed with both the cut and the interactions with my stylist. I arrived to the salon and was checked in by a young woman at the desk who took my jacket and showed me where to sit to have my hair washed. The person that washed my hair was phenomenal! She was incredibly thorough and it was so relaxing and enjoyable. I am giving a star in this review for her even though I don't know her name. When she was finished she walked me over to the stylist chair where I had my haircut by Marina, the owner and head stylist. She asked me if it was my first time there. I said yes, that I had just moved to the neighborhood and had not had my haircut in a year and a half because of Covid, so I was excited to finally have a change. I showed her about 8 photos saying that I would like something fun, young and a little edgy. I mentioned that I used to have pixie cuts, mohawks, and sharply asymmetrical angled bobs so I like fun and funky cuts. I said, "You're the stylist and know what will look good on me, so something along the lines of these photos, but you can sort of surprise me." Her body language while you talk to her is very inattentive and rushed as if she's not really listening. Maybe since I was flexible on the style, she was just ready to get started?? She cut off about 6" of hair (totally fine! All of the styles I showed were quite short and I am happy to lose the length). I assumed from this length she was going to add layers, texture, some asymmetry..... something! After shortening the hair to all one length, she used thinning shears to thin it out a bit. And then was finished. It took longer to wash my hair than the time she spent cutting it. She blow dried my hair using a very large round brush and curled all of the ends under which looked nothing like any of the photos I provided and took the cape/smock off. I said, "Oh, you're finished?" a bit surprised. And she replied, "Next time, give me a harder hair style". Thinking that she had perhaps forgotten what the pictures looked like, I pulled my phone out to show her the inspiration again and asked... "Well what would you do next time?" Thinking that as she saw the pictures for a second time she would see that my mushroom shaped hair looked nothing like the ANY of the pictures. She replied, "I don't know, I'd have to think about it." Then pointed to the most simple style I showed and said, "I gave you this one. The only reason hers looks like that is because she has pomade in it". If that is true, she should have put product in my hair and showed me how to style it like that so I would know how to make it look like that. But she didn't. At one point she had asked if it was ok if she made one side longer. I said, "Yes, definitely! I love asymmetry!" She said she'd make the left side a little longer than the right. In leaving, my hair was the same length all the way around. No angle, no asymmetry, not ONE SINGLE layer :( All of the images I showed had layers to create texture, many were angled or asymmetrical with piece-y layers and edges. ZERO of the photos had the edges blown curled under. So I was given the most simple and basic bob with blown under edges. I walked out looking like I had a mushroom cap on my head (like a 1998 soccer mom/housewife from a suburb in the south). I didn't write a review the first day thinking maybe after I wash it and style it myself, I'll like it more. I looked like a mushroom cap because of the blow-dry. But Marina said my haircut would look like one of the pictures with some product. So the next day I washed and dried my hair straighter and almost cried. There is a chunk of hair on my right side that is an inch longer than every where else. Mistakes happen. Maybe that piece was caught in my face mask. Fine. I'll trim that myself. But if you're going to give me the most simple haircut of all time, it had better be executed really well and it's not. The right side is longer... but not in a cute stylish way... just in an awkward, sloppy way and it's jagged across the back. Not textured layers... just jagged gradual diagonal that is weirdly longer on the right. My boyfriend's reaction was "At least it looks a little better tucked behind your ears". And my two coworkers were shocked at how it was "not me at all". Sadly, if you are a new client, Marina isn't going to spend time getting to know you and what you like and dislike. She didn't ask any questions about my life or lifestyle to understand what I like and need for my hair to do. In giving her some creative flexibility, I thought I'd end up with something fun and different. Instead, I just got a bad basic cut. Marina is not mean, but I genuinely do not think that she understands how her demeanor, tone, body language and attitude come across to her clients. As a costume designer who designs and makes custom clothing for a living, I understand that no custom service or design will be perfect, but what a let down :(

Before yeah I know horrible!

UPDATE! 6/27/219 I got a eyelash lift for the very first time here with Sam and let me tell you LIFE CHANGING! Every lazy/busy girls who don't want to wear extensions, DREAM! Sam was so professional and informative she did such a great job and now I'm hooked! If you are on the fence about it I definitely recommend you check it out! Prior to my hair appointment I use to think that I had to travel all the way to the city to get the "quality" of hair style I want (balayage to be exact) until I came across Jessica's work on yelp and on instagram and I was like "finally someone who gets my hairstyle vision and the work to prove it close to home!" She finessed my hair effortlessly and I will definitely returning back for future app

Let me start off by saying, I am a Yelp reader most of the time and not so much a reviewer. I only review places that really made an impact on me whether positive or negative. I had to make 2 visits at the salon because the first balayage was a little too subtle and warm toned for my liking. So I gave it a week to see if I just needed to get used to my new look. I wasn't 100% happy with it so I had contacted Marina, who handled my hair and respectfully asked if she can correct it. Marina got back to me quickly to set up an appointment for the correction. She was so patient and understanding about what I had wanted and did not rush at all, so I could achieve the look I had wanted (close to 4 hours because black stubborn hair). She was very professional and gentle and I had a great experience. How she handled my complain will be the reason I will keep coming back to her for many years to come. P.S. Her son was added to a pleasant experience. Checking on her clients, offering refreshments and complimenting his mom's work!

Arrived here at this awesome place ! Understands how my hair works and they are sooo patience

I went to change up my super dark hair last week, so I decided to go in my neighborhood to this salon. I've never been here before, but saw positive reviews and decided to try it out. I got a soft balayage/haircut. OMG I'm in love with it. I've received so many compliments and I feel like it's perfect for the summer. Will def come back. Thanks Jessica for making my hair so beautiful.

Today was my third time at this salon and I must say Marina is the best in Queens, and I've been to a lot of salons. She cares about your hair and won't mistreat it just to get you to look a certain way while you're in her chair only to have a mess when you get home. She wants you to have healthy, thick and beautiful hair. She's a class act! I had my first coloring experience with her recently, an ash blonde balyage on dark brown (non virgin) hair. When I left I will admit it had some brassy areas but she offered to tone it again in a few days FOR FREE to make sure I was happy. It's totally perfect now! I will definitely be back for more! .................................................................................... So now I've been to Marina's salon for my second balyage with her. I couldn't be happier my hair is so healthy despite all the processing it went through. Thank you so much for my "Mother of Dragons, punk-rocker adult hair"!!!!

My mom and I were visiting the area, and found the salon through Yelp. We had an okay experience. We both got powder nails done on our hands. It took forever - the heater was broken and it was cold so the shiny coat would keep drying matte. Our nail specialist had to do multiple iterations of the coats and maybe it made the nails less durable. I lost a full powder nail a day after I got it done. Overall, the staff was okay and tried to take care of us. We were visiting only because we were in the area for a few hours.

This place is awful - the coloring was two tone. The hairdresser did not know what she was doing. $200 totally not worth it!

Unsatisfied customer. Ive been a Panache cutomer for years but because of Marina's price gouging and dishonesty and offensive comments towards me has left me in shock that she still remains in business. I would like to begin by explaining that I went to see her on 12/24/20 to get a cut and highlights and my daughter received a dye from dark brown to ginger. Now I know my daughter's was going to be a process because she wanted to go so light but I didnt think I would be charged $723.00 not including the tip. I know since her location is in forest hills she would be pricey shes always been pricey but I Ive always loved her services but this time I felt taken advatange of. She assured me when I brought my daughter back for a touch up it would be $65. Fast forward I bring my daughter back in March 2021 we even call first to confirm how much was a touch up and the "experienced ladies" on the phone said $65. My husband brought her and she then said $200 for a touch up in her roots. This is how shes price gouging. I texted her via Instagram because I couldnt understand why she was overcharging us, then thats when she began to say offensive remarks towards me. She even blocked from her page. She doesnt treat her clientel with the upmost respect and I feel again taking advantage of. The lack of her customer skills and just manners is appalling . What upsets us is that shes unapologetic about everything and that she feels that she did no wrong. Marina respond's to my message by explaining that salons charge based on experience and products but the only who is experience is only her and 90 percent of the time she has others completing the service. Here is some evidence of all that she has done to us. Just please beware. ( Im not sure if I am more upset at the initial $723 that I spent in her salon or the $200 she attempted to charge me. That same day I took my daughter to Spectrum in forest hills and I was charged $125.

Let's begin with the fact that anyone who knows me knows that I am hard to please. I wanted to find a salon that was good and also in Queens. I ended up coming across Panache on yelp and decided to give it a shot. What a decision it was. The pictures don't lie. Love my finished product and needless to say I'll be back for maintenance. I love that Marina is great on consultation as a professional should be. She spoke in depth with me before she even touched my hair and then she gave great advice that wasn't necessarily what I had in mind, but she was right and I am pleased.

I LOVE MY HAIR! Marina is magic! This was my first time at Panache. I was in the area and I wanted to inquire about going lighter and balayage.. you know.. the J-LO look! She took me in the same day! It's been a very long time since I did something major with my hair, but I put all my trust in Marina & she worked her magic!! She turned my naturally straight jet black hair to exactly what I envisioned! The color & cut are perfection and I left so happy that I gave her a huge hug & kiss! My hair came out gorgeous!! I highly recommend Panache, Marina knows what she's doing and the staff are nice & friendly. Panache is my official go to salon!!

What we asked for.
