Ok I didn't think I needed to actually say this but apparently I do. Tarek, I am not Yelp poster John D - that is not a fake account made by me and I'm not sure what lead you to believe I'd go through the lengths to do something like that. Please stop these assumptions and attempts to tarnish my reputation. I think you've already done enough. While it's unnecessary & futile to defend my character, I'll do it once more anyway. I decided to NOT leave an online review until now because I was still planning to play in the league. Yes we've had disagreements but I wasn't going to let that keep me from playing soccer. I enjoyed the location / day of week & didn't need to be a sore loser about you clearly not being a huge fan of me. But it seems you had another idea in mind and it appears you attempted to ban the team from joining again (as we planned) based off of some pretty unfair reasoning and false accusation. It seems you have tried to punish them for continuing their relationship with me. It appears you were successful in forcing them to choose - me or continue playing soccer at that location on Sundays. I have decide to speak up now after learning of what happened and hearing what you've been telling people that I've done - I feel others have the right to know how players like me are being treated behind the scenes. I'm going to go ahead and attach the email that Tarek has referenced & some screenshots for full transparency, along with the following clarifications to his claims for anyone still reading all of this nonsense: - Our team did show up for our last game during the downpour. I was there. I walked to the field with a sub for your team actually, a blonde woman, from Russia or Switzerland I believe? We laughed at the waterfall of water coming from the bridge underpass - it broke my umbrella. She asked if I was on [YOUR TEAM NAME] and I said no. She said someone from your team, a coworker of hers, had reached out the night before and asked if she could help because the team didn't have enough players. I met my captains at the sidelines and they let me know they had just forfeited - we were only able to get 4 of our roster there with the crazy weather, that much of what you said is true. The field was already flooding at that point. The rest of the team assumed the game would be rescheduled and didn't want to make the walk from the train in the downpour. It never was. - I did not demand field support in an email to you, the ball comment was an off hand comment. A small part in a larger email that was addressing the increasingly shorter & shorter game times we were experiencing. (Context: If D1 & D2 games before us ran long - our D3 games would be shortened on the fly to make up for the time.) I get that my emails must have been very annoying to you but you have misrepresented how I acted & how you had actually replied. Throughout our emails you had always implied that sharing my feedback was helpful to the league as it was growing. I had thought that I would be allowed to voice these concerns field side as well but I learned the hard way that I should NOT have talked to you right after you had just finished playing. So Let's wrap this up & move to that. - I feel your recall is incorrect regarding our field side interaction. I wasn't angry that we lost (we lost 90% of our games, we got used to it fast). I was angry that several times during the game, you made calls and stopped play on behalf of the ref. At one point in the heat of competition, you threw the ball off the field so our team had to chase the ball down. I felt you abused your powers as an owner to advantage yourself & your team. After the game - I asked if I could speak to you and you said yes. I tried to talk but you realized I was voicing a complaint and cut me off right away. I tried to continue so you repeated "just find another league" over and over, louder and louder, until teammates of yours surrounded me and told me to walk away. I apologized, admitted it was stupid to try to talk to you then and walked away.

I was really nervous about letting him go away with the team because he's tiny, he had never played football before, and I wasn't sure how he would fit in with a team full of kids who had been playing together for 3-4 years. My fears were immediately quelled when we picked him up from the bus after camp had ended. Coach Moore is fantastic! He challenges and encourages the players to strive to be their best. He gives them feedback on ways to improve and he really breaks things down so they can understand. A true teacher! I was especially impressed when I learned the organization provides a bus to take players/families to/from games. This would certainly have been a FIVE star review if the certification process wasn't soooo long. (which may or may not be a reflection on the program) OVERALL: A wonderful local program with great coaches, mentors, and fantastic players/families. Highly recommend!

When I first heard that an indoor turf facility was opening in Williamsburg, I contacted the owner…read moreabout starting a women's league which turned out to be a terrible experience (more on that below), but first, a few notes on the facility: The field is tiny. 5 v 5 games are super tight and the ball is constantly ricocheting off players. The walls are padded which helps prevent injury, but then the ball doesn't actually bounce off the walls, instead it often ends up dying near them. The turf is enclosed with a net which makes me feel like I'm in a cage. My knees always hurt after playing there--makes me wonder, what's underneath the turf? Pickup games run $15/hour which is a lot more than other pickup games in the city. Meetup.com has dozens of cheaper options if you're looking. My experience playing in a league here was truly awful. As I mentioned, I contacted the co-owner about starting a women's league. He said he had plans to start one and asked me to help spread the word. I contacted all of the women's leagues I've played in in NYC. Registration opened in December and my squad quickly paid our dues ($180/player--around $40-30 more than the usual league fees). The start time was pushed back several times because they had trouble securing teams. One of the staff told me that the league was going to be canceled but then a few hours later we were told we could have an exhibition match in two days if we wanted to, which was very confusing. At that point, a lot of us had already made plans--especially since we were told the league was most likely being canceled. A few days later, we were told that 2 more teams had registered, and I found out via the coach and players on these teams that they were given reduced rates. Some of the players allegedly did not have to pay at all. I asked the co-owner about this and he promised me in an email that "all players will pay the same fee at the end of the day." At this point, they should have refunded our league fees and set up an all-women's pickup to drum up interest in the league, but this didn't happen. The night of our first match, the co-owner asked the team if we would be OK moving games up to 7PM (games were supposed to start at 7:30). We told him that we wouldn't be able to make an earlier start time so he agreed to stick to 7:30. A few days later, they posted the rest of the schedule and it turns out some of our games would start at 7 which would mean some of our players might miss close to half of the games. I wrote the co-owner an email asking if he could adjust the schedule and when one of his staff replied, a very rude email written by the co-owner was included in the exchange: Can you calm this person down tonight, once and for all!? Also: please don't be apologetic to her at all! I read through your emails to her and she is the sort of person who seizes upon hemming and hawing and apologies. Be firm. Not impolite. But firm. At this point, I asked for a refund because I no longer felt welcome playing in a facility owned by a person with such a poor opinion of me. While I'm willing to give a new business some leeway while they sort out how to communicate with customers, The Pitch's policies re: dealing with customer's issues are very unprofessional. The co-owner later followed up with an email in which he refused to apologize for what he said--he only apologized that I had to see his email. He also said that I had misunderstood his terminology because he was using "the British way of saying to sort something or someone out." (Note: this person is not British and anyone who has spent time with the British knows that apologizing is a very British thing to do.) The Pitch has refused to give me a refund and thus I am out $180. When I entered a team into the league, I brought with me 7 paying players, and the other teams that registered came from one of the leagues I reached out to. In the end, my efforts meant very little to The Pitch. Despite the fact that they do not think I am entitled to a refund, I have been told that they also will not let my team bring in a sub without the sub paying a pricey registration fee and $10/match. Long story short, don't waste your time and money at The Pitch. NYC has tons of parks and green space where you can play soccer for free or for a very affordable price.

The indoor turf field is extremely well taken care of and Matt and Greg are absolutely fantastic. I've also made a ton of new friends while at the Pitch and we are forming a 4v4 summer team there. The Pitch has honestly been one of my favorite places since I moved to NY and I really look forward to playing there every time I go. P.S. Don't listen to the review before mine because it is full of complaints with no merit. The field is not tiny (especially for an indoor turf field), the ball does bounce off the wall (maybe you just have a weak leg), every turf field has beads under it (former college football player, it's a fact), and, yes, the field is caged so that the ball doesn't fly off the field (if you are playing indoors anywhere, you are technically caged, but then again that's besides the point because the whole post was full of misstatements). Sounds like a salty person who makes generalizations about everything, including all British people being apologetic, and doesn't look at the facts. I wouldn't have taken the time to write my review or defend The Pitch against the other review if the place wasn't worth it. I have truly enjoyed playing here and recommend it for anyone, including women. The ownership is great and refunded me when a pickup game got cancelled. Really happy I found The Pitch and it has made my move to Brooklyn awesome.

On the field, he and the crew are ALWAYS hospitable and available for questions or concerns and that can't be said for every day-to-day interaction that we all have in life, let alone in our various paid adventures. But the camaraderie shown doesn't end on the field, that crew brings it to the bar creating a postgame atmosphere that allows you to be whichever social character that you want to be, whether you be introverted or extroverted. I will say the only thing stopping me from giving the league 5 stars is the silly rule in place where if the score is 6 points or fewer within 2 minutes, it's a pro clock, but if it's 7 or 8 (which is still a one-possession game), it's a running clock.

I don't know who manages this organization, but it's clearly managed by adult babies who are unable to address poor staff or player behavior. Attending staff are useless - they don't care about the rules. There are some regular players there hogging up court time or wanting to play with their friends and not allowing equal court time to newcomers. Bunch of old farts acting like entitled grade schoolers. Staff are constantly on their phones and are just there to collect a measly paycheck. Utterly useless.

That said, what ultimately made us walk away wasn't the facility--it was the people. At this price point, hospitality should be part of the experience. Unfortunately, nearly every interaction we had with the front desk felt cold and transactional. The staff often seemed more engaged in conversations with one another than acknowledging members or prospective members. Instead of feeling welcomed, we frequently felt as though we were inconveniencing them by asking basic questions or checking in. For a luxury fitness brand, that's am extremely disappointing first impression. After touring multiple gyms, we ultimately chose to stay loyal to Orangetheory Williamsburg instead. While it's a completely different style of workout, the difference in customer experience was impossible to ignore. From our very first visit, the staff greeted us warmly, remembered our names, and made us feel like part of a community rather than just another membership. That sense of hospitality made the decision surprisingly easy. One additional point of feedback is the sales experience. I work in enterprise sales myself, so I understand the importance of following up with prospective customers. However, there's a fine line between persistence and becoming overwhelming. Orangetheory occasionally sends a promotional text or email, which feels respectful. Equinox, on the other hand, repeatedly called, texted, and emailed after our visit to the point that it became excessive and I felt harassed. Rather than reinforcing the value of the brand, it had the opposite effect and made the experience feel more aggressive than premium. For a luxury gym with a luxury price tag, I expected a customer experience that matched the brand. The facilities are impressive, but management should seriously consider investing more attention into the hospitality culture at the front desk and the overall sales approach. Those interactions ultimately influenced our decision far more than the equipment ever did.

You see, most Equinox locations I have visited either the main studio is tucked away partially from the gym's floor visibility or has a wall to make it a bit more private. I felt like the main studio at the Williamsburg location everyone from all angles can see you workout. The yoga studio is downstairs. Right across from the women's locker. Would have been nice if the main studio was situated the same as well. My guess is depending what time you visit will depend how less crowded or crowded it is.
