For a public pool in NYC, I've gotta really say this is definitely one of the better ones that I've been to. There aren't hoards of bored children out for the summer running around making a ruckus or continuously splashing water into my face and there are even a few pool chairs, if you're lucky enough to snag one. There's an area designated just for laps, which is great and there's a pretty neat area to play volleyball, sand and all. They cater well to children and there's even an area with water sprinklers for the kids to play in or if you'd just like to cool off without completely immersing yourself in water. One thing to note is that the only showers they offer are outdoor ones in full eyesight of everyone in the pool, so don't plan on taking one of those full nudey showers you may be accustomed to at other pools or gyms unless you want to be banned from the premises for life. Everything else is pretty standard and I've yet to encounter any of the gross things that you'll see floating around other pools (you know what I mean), so I'll definitely be sure to return before the summer's up.

I love, love, love this place. Both times I've been here I've had nothing but good times. However, I came right after work. So its a little disconcerting wearing a shirt and tie while everyone around you is in emo-hipster mode, wearing their patented Threadless shirts and hair that looks like they haven't combed in two weeks. Jesus Christ, can you take the hair out of your eyes, please? ahem...i digress. Yes, its concrete. No grass, no little patches of green, just hard-ass concrete. As a matter of fact, you'll need a hard ass just to be comfortable sitting on the ground. Saw the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Sonic Youth two nights in a row, and they were just mind blowingly amazing. That Karen O can do no wrong. But hey, I'm here to talk about the place itself. There are various beer booths around the complex. BUT you have to get a wristband first before you can venture down to the booth. If you get to the venue late, that line can be pretty long and torturous. And since its in Brooklyn, its Brooklyn Brewery beer, which is like Kool Aid to the Billyburg hipsters. I can't wait to goto the summer movie series thats there right now. And dont forget that my future wife Feist is there august 29th, so look for me. I'll be the one towards the front of the stage, with a bib around my neck to wipe all the drool away.

One last summer before the emptied-out pool/concert venue gets filled up and turned into a boring old....pool. I plan to go play at the Sunday Pool Parties (free concerts, lots of people, must RSVP, lots of f-f-fun, go early) whenever I get a chance! Saw Bloc Party here last year.. interesting venue. Very British jail-like feeling for some reason, even though you're in Brooklyn. Must be the tower entrance and the peeling paint off all the concrete. Or maybe it's just me and my imagination.

I was seriously impressed with the cleanliness of the entrance, pool, and locker rooms (I'm from Brooklyn so I remember what the pool used to look like...that's another story). All personal items must be locked up. The rules by the Parks Department seems a bit archaic: The only items you can take to the pool area are a towel and flip flops(literally). Books and reading material are permitted. You must provide and use your own padlock. They suggest a combination lock. No Electronic equipment, including cell phones. Only white t-shirts are permitted in the water. The staff was professional and courteous. Instructors were eager to answer any questions we had, however I was disappointed because my son arrived for advanced swimming lessons and the children there were clearly not ready for advance swim lessons. The instructor said she had to give instructions based on the skill set of the group and that was basic 101. My son was bored and we gave up our coveted lottery spot to one of several children on the waiting list. I'm seriously unhappy with the instructions, but I blame that on the parents not the swim instructors. However the facility was impressive and squeaky clean.

First of all, as these swim classes took place in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic, we've been very happy with all the safety precautions: - Classes were limited to 2 students, recently expanded to 3. - Only one parent/guardian and the child are allowed in the building at any time. - The parent/guardian and the child are allowed in the building only 5 minutes before class. - They check temperatures for all. The pool is heated, it is clean, and there are two bathrooms/changing rooms, each one with 6 lockers and one shower. They clean the changing areas in between classes. The instructors are great, and the 30-minute classes we took are intense[1]. Even though the exercises and routines were essentially the same, a lot depends on the energy of the teacher. I feel that the more energetic teachers are actually the more effective. There are a few things to consider: - The pool is not very big. It is certainly large enough for the 3 students plus 3 parents/guardians in the current class, but things could get crowded at full capacity. Also considering that each changing room has only one shower. - There is no priority enrollment for students who are currently enrolled in a class. Once the mass email for new enrollment is sent out, spots are assigned on a first-come-first-serve basis. Basically you only have a few minutes to register your kid. - There is no phone number to call. For anything you need, you have to send an email. The person in charge is nice and will reply, usually within a couple of days, and often within a few hours. However, if you need information quickly, thins is a problem. -------------------- [1] This was the Sea Otters level: 1 year/10 months to 2 yrs/10 months.

It took some time to build the skills but they are so concrete now that my son is very comfortable this something we are so grateful for. I write this review because this past weekend at a friend's house our son was knocked into the pool by another child playing. As we ran to jump in he shot to the top of the water and started to the wall. He was not even in his swim suit anymore and managed with a shirt on. We were in and got him very quickly but seeing him not panic and know what to do was something we will never forget.

It is hard to understand why because there are usually a bunch of attendants sitting around in the front at 11am but they never open the entrance gate til around 11:15/11:20am. Sometimes they have to wait for the police attendant to come. Once they do open, it is pretty fast to get inside. They look to make sure you have a lock. They require you to rinse off before going into the pool. On the deck, they don't allow you to wear anything besides a bathing suit or a white tee and flip flops. The staff makes sure to harass you as much as they can, you aren't allowed to have fun, they have a problem with everything, no running, no jumping, no holding on to each other while swimming, phones must be in the locker and cannot be used in the pool deck. The kiddie pool was closed on this day I visited because someone shit in it. I actually read in the news that they closed the entire pool the week before on one of the hottest days of the summer because someone shit in it. Google it if you don't believe me. The atmosphere has definitely improved, but not worth coming here again since the staff likes to make sure that they manage every little detail and impose each and every rule upon you. You really can't have fun at this pool, everything is a problem, literally my 4 year old daughter was holding on to me while swimming, they said "No holding on to each other while swimming." This place has potential but as long as it's ran by the NYC Parks and recreation it will always be a toilet.

My big bros always rebuttal with "You really comparing yourself to Kyrie, J?" Which is fair. I see their point. Plus, I'm just little cuzzo. Needless to say, I didn't have a chance but the big bros were in a heavyweight title fight, similar to Tyson Fury & Deontay Wilder 1.
