I'm a first-time home-buyer, so I wasn't sure what constitutes a good inspection. After speaking with folks afterward, I'm fairly confident this was not one of those. As mentioned by another reviewer, he had a handy test-for-water-damage tool he carried around. I was really confused when he stopped using it halfway through the inspection. He didn't even pull it out in the back bathroom. I asked him about it a few times, but he seemed so confident in his dismissals that I let it go. The big one, though - The extent of his electrical inspection was to look at the labels in the fuse box. He told me he was happy with how the rooms were divided up in there. About a week after moving in, I plugged something into an outlet in the kitchen, and heard a fizzling sound in the wall. The outlet topped working as did another outlet where the microwave is plugged in. Flipping the fuse box doesn't remedy the issue, so I'm going to have to call (and pay for) an electrician. I asked two other recent home-buyers in my office, and both told me their inspectors had investigated all of their outlets. The same for me would have saved me a ton. As I was letting Dov out, I regretted having my real estate agent source him for me. It's in Dov's best interest to help my agent, and not me. If Dov helps my agent make a sale, my agent will keep giving Dov business. Thus, if Dov nudges me toward buying with a lighter inspection, he's helping to put more money in my agent's pocket, while also taking a steep $600 out of mine. I'm not positive this is their explicit arrangement, but it's the feeling I got as I paid Dov for what gnawed at me as a not-at-all thorough inspection. First time home buyers beware. read more

Be weary!!!! I completely regret using their services for they took advantage of my ignorance to the inspection process (aka first home). Upon inspection of my heating cooling and hot water heating (10 mins into the inspection) he said they were not turned on. To which I said should we postpone this? He said not unless you want to pay me again to come back claiming he could visually inspect anyway and no big deal. It was a big deal and 3 different companies have stated upon visual inspection these unit were installed wrong and that the issues were obvious and hazardous without needing to be turned on at all. Also my roof has major obvious leaking issues as well as the side of the building were also obvious! You can NOT sue him because in basically says so in his cleaver agreement which he knows must people do not read (like me) till after the damage is done. I had to write this knowing there are other 1st timers out there getting poor inspections like me! Be Weary!!! read more

Overall very positive experience. Due to some timing constraints, we needed an inspector for next day morning and we were lucky to find anyone much less find the professional we did in Dov. He was punctual, he was both efficient and thorough in his inspection, explained everything in detail and offered numerous recommendations to optimize the space. Dov has some nice thermal imaging tech that allows him to see beyond the walls that many inspectors may be limited by. In our case, it was very relevant. The inspection report was available online within 24 hours. I would not hesitate to recommend Dov as a home inspector. read more

I have to agree . Dov inspected an apartment I am trying to buy in Harlem. He missed substantial water dame in a bathroom. When I got keys to inspect myself , found cockroach issue and the damage. I did two things 1) took photos immediately and 2) took a screen shot of his customer satisfaction on his website. I sent him pictures and he updated his report indicating items should be repaired. ( to date my seller refused to acknowledge this new report ) This updating of the report is a de facto admission of his error. I asked for compensation and ran into a brick wall. He even consulted with his "attorney" and he sent me his response via email. It was clearly not a legal opinion. This guy in my opinion is unscrupulous and not in anyway professional or of good character. Avoid at all costs. I never write reviews but was so moved by his blatant lack of customer service AND acknowledgement of an error that I am now taking time to do this and report him to the BBB in New York. read more

From what I can tell, Dov did a great job inspecting our apartment. He was prompt and very knowledgable about the area and the historic building. He educated us on certain aspects of the inspection, which I appreciated, and kept and open dialogue with the Super. The inspection report was very thorough and provided us with a good template to give the seller. I also appreciated being able to pay with a credit card online. read more

We used Dov to inspect our home before moving into it. He was very thorough and detailed, about 32 pages in total with specific suggestions and highlights. The report helped me see where we needed to add reinforcements in the home and where we needed to of make significant improvements. Areas such as the basement and a bathroom. I was very happy with the information I received and was able to use it when consulting a contractor. read more

Unfortunately I found the inspection to be superficial in many respects. Large portions of the report were boilerplate with little customized text of recommendations. In fact some of the boilerplate options hadn't been properly selected/edited, and the report said "The windows have wooden frames. The windows have metal frames." There were fewer photos than I have received in other reports which would be an issue for people not in attendance. The inspection of the mechanical systems was also limited mostly to "surface" observations. In many ways for the somewhat knowledgeable handy person, the only item of value was the IR test of the breaker panel and a few other similar things. read more

The entire process was seamless from scheduling the inspection to receiving the electronic report less than 24 hours after the inspection. Dov was extremely thorough and explained everything he was assessing and how his assessments were made. The company NY Inspect sucks and as far as I can tell Dov Herman the man who runs it is a hack. Let me tell you why. I was referred to him from my broker, (stupid I know but I'm a first home-owner and since she was working in my interest and she claimed Corcoran uses him all the time I thought it would be fine). How wrong I was. First off he missed some very obvious structural problems at the base of the house..a problem that cost me around 2K to fix. But the bigger problem is he said my roof was good and it was NOT. On the day of the inspection he merely popped his head out of the hatch and claimed "fine" in fact the roof was a mess and was leaking around the skylight of the house. Of course he took out some fancy tool and told me that the leak around the skylight was old....again wrong wrong wrong. At this point I shudder to think what else he missed. When I called him on it he did nothing. DO NOT use this guy. suck suck suck suck suck-a-doodle. read more
