I've tried so many different yoga studios and genuinely thought I just didn't like hot yoga... until I found NXPT and took Dafna's Hot Yoga Fusion class. Her classes have truly changed my life. I actually look forward to going--it's become my safe place and my strong place. Dafna is absolutely meant to be a yoga teacher. She's kind, gentle, and knows exactly how to push you in the best way. I had been looking for Spartan prep classes and had heard all over Facebook groups that this NXPT is the place to go for this type of training classes. It's a little far from me in the South Bay but I knew I had to try it. For parking, the lot is shared with other businesses so when I got there, it was full and parked in the lot down the street. I wouldn't suggest to park in front of the NXPT if it's the games classes since we're using wall balls near cars. When I found the class on classpass for Wednesday night, the name of it was a little confusing because it said "OCR/Games/Hyrox/Deka" so I didn't really know what that meant until I showed up to the class to learn that depending on when the next event is, that is the type of training they're doing. So my class focused on the Hyrox because the Anaheim event is in five weeks. Hannibal is the trainer and he was friendly with a quick introduction and had to jump on a call before class started. I asked around to sign the waiver and got someone to help me. I wanted to make sure that didn't slow me down starting the class on time. Thankfully I do strength training and hot yoga outside of this class so I felt I could keep up but having been to new classes before, they seem to take care of newbies with just a few more instructions. I ended up figuring it out and maybe the style of this gym is no hand holding but I ended up asking other attendees in the class about the structure. Most of the moves in this class were standard but when it came to Sled, I wasn't sure in my form. I'd suggest when they get newbies in these games classes to ask them if they've done anything like this before and if not, show them the proper technique of the moves. That helps in the actual events since form matters and also prevents injuries. Overall, it was a good experience and I'll be back! read more

Through ClassPass, I attended two workout classes at this gym. I was impressed with the open gym setup and the wide variety of equipment available. They offer numerous classes and even host group challenges, which I find both encouraging and motivating. On Monday evening, I participated in an Ab and Glute Boot Camp class. The warm-up was excellent, and I really enjoyed the old-school rap music playing in the background. The class had a great pace, and everyone was incredibly friendly. The instructor even joined in for parts of the workout, which added to the fun experience. As a member, you also have the option to pay $7 for a post-workout drink, which is a nice perk. My second class was the X45 Boot Camp on Wednesday morning. As a personal trainer, I didn't find this style of training to be my favorite. The session began with a solid warm-up, followed by five stations, each lasting five minutes. At each station, we alternated between two exercises for 2.5 minutes each. If you needed to pause, the penalty was 10 V-ups. The first station featured 10 bicep push-ups followed by 10 bicycle crunches, which I enjoyed. However, the next stations became increasingly challenging: 2.5 minutes of chest presses followed by 2.5 minutes of weighted ab sit-ups, then 2.5 minutes of pull-ups (assisted, if needed) followed by 2.5 minutes of single-arm face pulls. The final two stations included cardio (rowing or cycling) paired with weighted exercises like kettlebell swings and shoulder presses. While I love HIIT workouts, performing 2.5 minutes of weighted exercises--especially pull-ups--felt excessive. I didn't find the coach in the X45 class to be particularly approachable. At one point, I accidentally started the second exercise too early, and her response felt more like a reprimand than constructive guidance. Additionally, I avoid chest exercises and opted to do overhead tricep extensions instead. When I informed the coach and asked if that substitution was acceptable, she gave me a dismissive look and said, "I guess." Overall, while not every workout or training style will suit everyone, this gym stands out for its variety and for changing up the style of Boot Camp classes weekly, which is a big plus. read more

I love Spin class with Denice on Tuesdays and Thursdays. She makes the class so fun yet so challenging.

NXPT is amazing. The La Mesa location has incredible trainers and they will push you. I love it because they don't do super fast rotations like F45. You will stay at a station long enough to actually get a good workout in. If you're a newbie, be prepared it will be hard. BUT we were all newbies at one point and it's part of the process. Just keep going. If you are also super fit, their classes will be hard enough for you. They train those Deka type competitions and you'll be able to workout hard. read more

I trained at NXPT La Mesa for the first time. They were holding a Spartan Workout training session so I had to join in the fun! The event was awesome! All the stations simulated the different Spartan obstacles plus a healthy dose of cardio to make your soul want to leave your body. The gym itself is awesome with everything you need to get in a good workout. I was pleasantly surprised to see all the amenities too such as lockers, showers, a sauna, and the little things like hair ties. How thoughtful! The staff is fantastic too. I am ruined for all other gyms. The old motto used to be our warm up is their workout, and it's true-a few of us were chatting about this after our workout today. I don't come here to look cute, I come here to get stronger, mentally and physically. There is a workout for every need, from the X workouts, to yoga, to spin, to the dance class (which is so fun!) The trainers can change, but the quality remains, and that is what is vital and makes this gym so successful. I mean of course everyone loves Hannibal, but don't sleep on the other trainers, Hannibal and Dan are the ones that pick them (and sometimes train them) --and in the case of spin, some trained these guys.
