After years of not going to the gym, a friend of mine recommended KMF CrossFit. I was a little nervous and intimidated at first because I knew I was out of shape and felt even worse about my working out "skills". However, I decided to push myself to try something new. Little did I know that I'd LOVE THIS PLACE! KMF is not like any other gym. Every trainer is very encouraging and even the other members are too. When you walk in, you can feel the positivity. At KMF there is no judgement! Everyone wants to see everyone else succeed. I have never felt so comfortable working out anywhere else than I do at KMF. The trainers take their time to show you each movement carefully so that you feel comfortable doing them, they are not extremely pushy and they modify movements that still challenge you but accommodate to your needs in order to complete the work out. In all honesty, you gain more than just a great gym, you gain a new family! Everyday, I look forward to attending KMF. It's a really motivating feeling to have found a CrossFit Gym like KMF. Sorry to leave this negative review of a crossfit box, but it is what it is. This is my second negative experience at a crossfit box in about 10 years. I was on vacation with my family in San Diego and wanted to drop in at this location two days ago. I arrived about 10 minutes late to the 6AM class and the trainer wouldn't allow me to work out. The trainer wasn't rude, but she was unreasonable. She said their policy is you cannot work out if you miss the warmup due to "risk of injury." I have literally been doing CrossFit for the past 12 or so years and, as an adult, can decide what "risks" to take and accept the consequences. I hope they will reconsider the way they treat a visitor from out of state in the future. It's difficult enough to get out to work out while in a family vacation without having to deal with a box with silly policies like this one. Let's hope you are on time and get to be accommodated if you are dropping into this box in the future. read more

Before I went in coach Andy called me and said all he needed was commitment. Here I am 4 days completed! The environment was such welcoming and besides the coaches pushing us and motivating us the other classmates were also very motivating as they knew I was a beginner. Ignore the negative review from George B. Anyone who has been doing CrossFit for 12 years would know that most drop-in policies ask that you arrive 10-15 minutes prior to class to meet the coach/see the gym/SIGN A WAIVER. It is NOT unreasonable for a coach to be concerned for someone's safety. It IS unreasonable to show up late to a gym that you've never been to and interrupt a class that's already started and expect to be accommodated. I used to be a member at this gym, and then moved out of state. But I couldn't say enough nice things about the gym, the owners, the coaches, and the members. I love this place so much that the last time I was visiting San Diego, I took a 15 minute Uber every day just to get my workout in here. If you're looking for a CrossFit gym/family, don't look any further. I personally prefer a gym that is concerned about my well-being :) read more

Easily my favorite gym to workout at! The facility is very spacious and a wide range of equipment to work with. I love the water machine they have on the side because I can just refill my hydroflask instead of using plastic water bottles. I also believe it has the best priceline in comparison to other crossfit gyms around the area! The people who work here are second to none i regards to making everyone feel like family and still pushing our limits every day. The front desk lady (I believe her name was Jessica) is genuinely one of the nicest people I've ever met and has been very welcoming since. The coaches are extremely knowledgeable and always encouraging everyone to give their best effort. I worked with one of the founders, Jessica, for almost a year at a restaurant before she started investing herself in KMF CrossFit. She's always manifested a very motherly and confident personality with which she is able to bring out the most of others. There's no shock to see that their customer service is so genuine. I took pictures for their grand opening and was at awe when I saw the companionship all the trainers made with their pupils. With every rep and set, the trainers pushed and supported their pupils with such love and empathy. Not only that but they also had such casual relationships with one another and I could vividly feel the vibrant vibes they shared. It was as if everyone involved was family. I found this gym via YELP and was a little scared to walk in, but I was immediately greeted by Coach Jay and asked if I needed any help. I was offered one free session and came back later that night. The vibe was chill and very informative, I decided to sign up as a member that first night... Officially two weeks of attending KMF, tomorrow, if I can make it out of bed. Hahaha Tonight's WOD killed me... So far I love it, in no way am I in any type of shape so they modify and take their time to properly show me movements. They also help with minor nutrition regiments and do measurements to track your improvements. Other members are polite, I was afraid I'd be walking into a box full of egos but nobody has a stick up their butt. I give this place an A. Everyone is really encouraging! read more

There are a number of reasons this place deserves more than the allotted 5 stars. They were flexible enough to allow me to split up my 30 day Groupon trial since I was going on vacation. I wasn't expecting that since most Groupon redemptions are sticklers for fine print. I realize this has nothing to do with exercise, but it was a good business practice worth recognizing. The trainers are very knowledgeable and thorough. They're always walking around making sure people have the right form and adding more weight if they feel you can handle it. I'm still new to CrossFit so I'm continually lost in the sauce-- deer in the headlights almost all the time. I can only imagine that can get really annoying if they deal with that all day, but they remain patient and attentive regardless (or at least appear to be, that's some great military bearing, guys). Pricing is reasonable, $150/ month regularly and $100/ month for military, fire dept, law enforcement, students or teachers. All in all, the community at KMF seems very positive and family oriented. There's a complete willingness to help from all the people who come here. No one makes you feel awkward and I don't get the "cult" vibe that my body builder buddies like to joke about. read more

I just started on Monday and must I say, I LOVEEEE this place! They're really flexible on your schedule which is so relieving for me since I have to juggle between taking care of my son, going to school, and going to work. Everyone here is so humble and helpful in every way possible. I'm still a bit shy and get a bit embarrassed when I can't do the movements right, but the coaches are always there to help you get those movements down. This is great for anyone who is trying to get a better lifestyle, I see people from different age groups and must I say, it keeps me really motivated to see people from different ages to come here and work their butt off. It gets me really motivated and wanna keep going too. Fundamental classes are usually 5 days and they basically teach the movements you need to know to do your workouts. After you've learned those movements, the coaches will give you a workout. Obviously they're going to be a HIIT ( high intensity interval training) workout. If you're used to working out and already know the movements, the fundamentals class will be basically just a review on the movements and just to help you get your form right. I'm so glad I'm doing crossfit here, I love every minute of it. Trust me, if people from different ages and different sizes can do it, than so can you. I love this gym! Since I started coming I have felt so much better about my body and health giving me amazing results. All the coaches are really approachable and passionate about what they do. I feel like I can always talk to any of them about my routine, my diet, and ways to improve them. I have attended many other gyms and KMF meets all my wants and needs the most. Classes are available starting 6am all the way to 7:30pm. This truly gives me a good window to get through my day and do all I need to do plus working out. Coach David's programming is well-organized, dynamic, and challenging but can also be accommodated to meet everyone's needs. A big PLUS with this gym would have to be the Community/family feeling to it. The owner Andy and director of operations Jess create many events throughout the year outside of the gym such as KMF Beach Party, Friendsgiving, In-house competitions, Xmas Party, Halloween party. These events help everybody by bringing us together. OVERALL I think this gym makes top of the list for most Well-Rounded gym. And I can easily recommend it to anyone who is looking to improve their lifestyle and physical health while having fun :) read more

I have been working out here for about 8 months, and I absolutely love it here. I came in with NO crossfit experience at all. I took the fundamental classes and have been hooked ever since. I was a member for close to 3 years... amazing facility ! Very spacious! The staff is amazing ! There's been two sets of owners the first ones were great and the new ones are doing a great job of keeping the KMF family alive. The box is always clean, staff always present to assist ANYONE! KMF Crossfit is hands down the best box I've ever been in!! The staff are incredibly knowledgeable and always eager to help and answer any questions you have about the WOD, form, nutrition, etc. They also place a huge emphasis on safety (you have to take 10 beginner fundamental classes when you join), which a lot of Crossfit gyms don't do enough. However, if you're experienced when you join you can test out of some/all of the classes. The workouts are always challenging and the staff encourage and push you the entire time. My wife and I have been to a few boxes in SD. This is by far the best box we've been to in terms of cost, space, schedule and equipment. The atmosphere is very welcoming with a very diverse level of fitness. The best box for new Crossfitters! The instructors are very knowledgeable with all CF movements and have no problems with scaling/personal instruction. If you have experience with CF, there are even open gym times for you to workout!! Pretty new into crossfit came to KMF to try it out. The coaches were very helpful in making sure I had good form and learned the movements correctly. Great group classes in the evening not an intimidating atmosphere. The workouts are always different and challenging, your always going to leave sweaty so bring a towel.
