I love visiting New Orleans because the food is on an epic level of flavorful, so I decided to see if San Antonio had anything close to NOLA Cajun or Creole food. My search led me to Nuttin Betta....a fitting name, because you really aren't going to find better Cajun food in these parts of Texas. I ordered carry out online through Uber Eats. The ordering process was easy, and the employees actually read my notes requesting hot sauce and utensils. Attention to detail like that is crucial when you're ordering carry out. The restaurant itself was very clean, and it's clear the owner takes pride in the appearance and experience they give their customers. I'm excited to explore more of their menu. read more

This was our first vist to Nuttin Betta on 7/11/26. Disappointed on a few of the items. The gumbo was very greasy and not with the normal roux base, very oily-waterly. The boudin balls mushy, not firm of crisp as normal. The blackened fish and dirty rice was great. Your sides prices are above compared to your competitors with equal taste. My barber told me about their fish Friday special so I went to check it out. I was greeted immediately, which I very much appreciated. They asked if I was dining in or taking out. I told her I was taking it to go and she proceeded to tell me about the menu. I still opted for the fried catfish, which included trip pieces of fish, two hush puppies, fries and coleslaw, which I don't like. She asked if I wanted extra fries instead so I said sure, but apparently, that came with a $3 upcharge which she failed to mention and I only saw because I asked for a receipt. I also got a cup of Kool aid which they filled to the brim with ice. I took a seat at a table and waited for my food, which took about ten to fifteen minutes. Other people came in and were seated at various tables, there was music playing throughout. The place is set to look like New Orleans, so that was the art in the walls, a mural on the wall and other decor. The catfish was fresh and hot but the cornmeal made it gritty. It could've also been seasoned more. The fries could've been seasoned a bit more. The hush puppies were a bit overdone but it was a good meal, I'd go back to try other things. read more

We walked in wanting to have some of this Cajun cooking the reviews were raving about. Sadly, we didn't even get to order. There's some confusion on seating. We sat down and a staff member came to say it was reserved. So we moved to another table. By the register is a sign that says "order here" we went to order, same waitstaff said "we'll go take your order". Now that Acadiana Cafe left us high and dry last year after being around for over 3 and a half decades a void in N.O. style food has finally been filled by Nuttin Betta on Walzem and Midcrown behind Cristan's Tacos. I haven't had their gumbo yet but I do recommend their hush puppies, boudin balls, po boys, dirty rice and bread pudding. The service is friendly too, much better than Ma Harper's on New Braunfels. Went on a Wednesday and the place was buzzing. There were several families dining and it was still kinda quiet which is a really good sign. People happily enjoying their food. The music was really good and I was seated immediately. Though she was busy my server was very kind and helpful. With an hour to close I did not feel rushed which is really cool because this is the kind of food you want to take your time and really savor. The menu was really easy to read and had lots of options and pictures across the top. They do have a wing special on Wednesday and poboys and a selection of boils which all looked very tempting but I opted for the #5 signature special offered as a fried, grilled or blackened. I chose the blackened ( it usually takes a little longer but is really worth it. The set up looks really familiar but I can't place it. I do want to come back and try the gumbo and Bourdain balls but I gave up beef and pork for lent. The atmosphere and wall decorations are friendly and playful, they definitely give the place a New Orleans feel. The seats are set up with booths on oneside, a single long booth seat with a couple of tables joining them on the opposite and standard tables in the middle, they definitely make the most of the space provided. All the food coming out of the kitchen looks pretty good, and I'm looking forward to my plate. Oh my goodness this is delicious. The flavors are well balanced without the blackening seasoning over powering the flavor of the catfish or crawfish. The dirty rice is the best I've had in a long time. Well. I was hyped about this place. I had high hopes. What I will say is it's not bad or terrible. It's just ok. I apparently got there too early on a Saturday morning. They opened at noon and I got there at 1145. I had a book so I said ok. I'll wait. I loved the look of the place but more I loved the music. When I received the plate, my first thought is " it's rather light". But I proceeded to my car. I decided to look inside and take a taste before driving off. The fish is seasoned but a bit salty. When I got home, I realized why it was so light. They were the thinnest little fillets and really one order of fries though I asked for a double order. The highlight was the gumbo I ate the next day. As Cajun with roots from New Orleans, this place is authentic. We visited last weekend with our family. We got the Signature dish which had Fried Catfish Bayou on dirty rice with fried shrimp and the 4 side plate with dirty rice, seafood gumbo, crawfish etouffee and his puppies.
