When you see the daily specials on their menu, you know it's the real deal. Not only is there fried chicken and chicken n dumplings, but the vegetable sides include such grandma favorites as Jello with fruit and often several kinds of peas . . . and rutabagas, any time you actually can find rutabagas on a restaurant menu you know they're not playing around in the kitchen and they're catering to old timers who themselves know how to cook. I had chicken n dumplings with fried eggplant and cucumbers and onions salad as my sides and cornbread came along with the plate as well. Everything was delicious. The cucumbers tasted fresh from someone's garden--like they had that just-picked taste you don't normally encounter in restaurants at all. Service was fine, an older waitress who checked on me and kept the iced tea coming. The interior is comfy, old license plates on the wall, regulars greeting each other and coming over to each other's tables. But the food is what stands out: not at all fancy, indeed, it doesn't taste like restaurant food but literally like eating at a Southern friend's grandma's house and I don't believe there could be a higher recommendation than that.

As we drove by we noticed the parking lot was full and looked like a pretty popular place so we decided to turn around and give it a try. OMG. Talk about a place where the locals go... It was fantastic! The inside was decorated with old license plates. The staff seemed to enjoy their job, and the waitress that we had look like she was having a great time with all of the customers. She was very sweet and prompt. We had the Salisbury steak and fried chicken sandwich with handmade onion rings. Deliciously crispy! If you're in the area, make sure you stop in.

Especially, the abundance of free parking in downtown Lake City. The Friday night I was there, there was music bingo and a live band. They have live music every Friday and Saturday at the outside stage. Monday is game night. Tuesday is Trivia. Wednesday they have line dancing, including classes for like $5. Thursday is Karaoke!!!! They have a "Culture of Generosity" where you can buy a beer forward. I actually got to be the recipient of one of those free beers. And of course, I paid it forward. The BEER: Seymour-Finnegan's Irish Red Ale 5.7%... smooth slightly sweet great tasting all day crushable goodness Hop Culture IPA 6.5% ABV... looks like a hazy, tastes like a west coast, definitely high in IBUs, has fruity pine nose, good if you love your IPAs extra piney, so very hop forward Pickle Sour 4.5% ABV... oh he11 yummm, I absolutely love this pickle sour. Soooo very good! Rum soaked oak barrel aged Big Hal 7% ABV... there was something I really liked about this. It is a brown ale with a whole bunch of personality Don't have the words though. Big Hal brown ale 6 8% ABV... now I know what I liked about the Rum Soaked Barrel Aged Big Hal this is an all day drinkable brown ale. LOVED IT! I can honestly say I found some fantastic Beer in Lake City, FL. What a wonderful way to spend a Friday evening.

They had several guest beers and a couple of vodka sodas on tap. I got my standard flight and wanted to try their beers, so I got a red ale, a wit bier, a pumpkin style and a hazy IPA. Nothing was bad but nothing stood out either. Everything was solid. We didn't eat here but the menu looked solid. They had a Mississippi pot roast (Similiar to an Italian beef) wrap that sounded great. If I were a local, I'd definitely come back to try out the food.

When I went, it had two types of fried chicken, meatloaf, and a number of sides. Everything was REALLY good. I'm not a big fried chicken connoisseur. My family enjoyed the food and still comments about what a find this is. Overall: Highly recommended.

It's a typical little neighborhood Cafe with a breakfast buffet and menu ordering. I had the two-egg breakfast with bacon, toast with tater tots (out of hash browns). I requested eggs to be cooked over medium and they were absolutely perfect!!! I was thrilled because this is not a typically happens when I order this type of egg. That tater tots Tasted like they were cooked in fresh oil and the bacon was amazing. A friend ordered the same except with home fries and a hot cake. She was a little bummed at the home fries as they were just sliced & just not what she expected. Her eggs and bacon were also amazing and her hot cake was wonderful. Coffee was nice and strong with good flavor. I visited the restroom and although the building is obviously old it was very clean. Crystal was our server and she was warm and engaging. 10/10. I will definitely visit again when I'm in the area!!

It was maybe 10/15 mins off the highway, so if you're traveling down as well and have some time to stop over I would recommend it. My wife and I got a plate of chicken breast with rice, black beans, plantains, and empanadas. The lady who owns the restaurant was so nice and walked us through the menu and told us a bit about how long they've been in the area. She shared that many of the restaurants nearby have been closing down, so they appreciated us coming in to support their business. Overall, we thought the food was good and everything was cooked to perfection but unfortunately we couldn't finish it because it was entirely too salty. I know seasoning preferences can vary based on the person, so I would still recommend you stop in and try them for yourself, but for me, it was just too much salt to finish the meal.
