It is an affordable massage and it was what I was looking for. You can hear if someone is talking in the other rooms, but there really wasn't much of that, I think just people checking out. Overall, I'm happy this place is in walking distance to me!

I'm still trying to figure out when a tip stopped being a tip and became an entrance fee…read more I called Friday to book him a 90-minute massage with April, a therapist he had seen before. During the call, the representative told me that April had actually made a note regarding the tip that was left after his previous massage because apparently it was "insufficient." For context: the massage was $90 and we left a $30 tip -- more than 33%. Apparently, that still wasn't enough. I was told April wanted a $40-$50 tip. Did I think that was ridiculous? Absolutely. But against my better judgment, I said fine and went ahead and booked the 90-minute appointment for Saturday. Fast-forward to Saturday. I receive a call asking to change his 90-minute massage to 60 minutes AND move it to a completely different time. Then, unbelievably, the tip conversation comes up AGAIN. After all of that, I'm ultimately told that April actually just doesn't want to do the massage. Excuse me... what happened here? This is a customer who has been coming to your business for more than a decade. He paid the advertised price for his previous massage and left a 33% tip, yet somehow that resulted in a note being placed about him, a request for an even larger $40-$50 gratuity, and then ultimately a refusal to provide the appointment we had already scheduled. If a massage therapist requires a $40-$50 minimum gratuity in order to accept a client, then perhaps that amount needs to be included in the price of the service. At that point, it's no longer a tip -- it's a fee. And making a note about a longtime customer because a $30 tip on a $90 service wasn't enough? That's certainly a new level of customer service. After more than 10 years of patronage, this was an incredibly disappointing and frankly bizarre way to treat a loyal customer. The massage may be $90, but apparently keeping your appointment requires winning the gratuity approval process first. Needless to say, after this experience, The Massage Place has lost a customer of more than 10 years.
