I booked the 90-minute Surya's Signature Abhyanga Massage - the experience was truly a beautiful ceremony. The treatment rooms are exotic and a balance of masculine and feminine - the private bathroom with shower was very special too. I had never experienced a massage like this and had no idea what to expect. When the two therapists began to stream warm Ayurvedic oils - I got to choose which oils I'd like - over my body, I was completely in my senses - my thoughts vanished. The massage was light and soft - something I've never experienced before and I discovered that this is exactly what my body loves. I've always gotten deep tissue bodywork before - and - this type of massage, along with the special oils and the incredibly gifted therapists - melted away all the tension and stress I'd been carrying. While the massage was ok, I was very surprised to learn afterward that one of the therapists who has reportedly been with the company for many years is not licensed. For an spa that presents itself as a luxury, this is extremely concerning and, in my view, unacceptable. Guests expect that all practitioners are properly trained, certified, and operating within legal requirements. This raises not only questions about quality, but also about safety and compliance. If I had been seeking a service from someone unlicensed, I would have chosen a different type of establishment at a significantly lower price point. Four handed massage. I feel like I don't need to say anything else! But I will. No, they don't have a steam room or sauna, but get over it! The actual experience of their services is out of this world, and I did not want or miss a steam room or dry sauna at all. I had the 90 minute radiant transcendence - udvartana + shitodhara. A lot of Sanskrit, but let me tell you...they can call it whatever they want, I call it sheer bliss. To have two therapists massage you in sync...I truly felt like it was an out of body experience. There was warm oil that was drilled down my forehead to the hair line and all through my hair. (Yes you will look like very greasy when leaving but you won't care! Go home and go to bed!) The only hiccups I encountered was the front toilet not flushing, running out of tissue in my bathroom, and being told I couldn't use my 15% off code on products in-person, only online. I have just completed a truly wonderful experience at Surya Spa. I am a local and decided to get an ayurvedic massage, and I am so happy I did. The spa is beautiful. My only disappointment - I was expecting a traditional style spa with locker room, steam and sauna which this spa does not have. What they do have is a lovely reception area, quiet room to wait for your therapist and beautiful treatment rooms. Each room is large with a private bathroom that includes a tub/shower. I chose the 90 minute, deep tissue, single therapist massage. Next time I will book the 4 hand massage. So looking forward to my next visit. read more

PLEASE READ THE INFO CAREFULLY because its not a regular spa. My husband booked for Valentines day. He booked the signature massage ( most expensive) and its was not what either of us expected. For me, this is what I HATED: 1) No dressing rooms--you change in the massage room. This is a 3000 sq ft spa with no changing rooms. 2) The waiting area ( meditation room?) was tiny. When I arrived it was full of people in their street clothes. I sat elsewhere bc it was not relaxing at all. 3) The actual massage was not good. I was asked what kind of oil i wanted and I made it clear that smell was the most important part to me--they said neither oil had a smell. NOT TRUE-- the sesame oil made me smell like peanut butter. 4) The oil was scalding hot and was poured all over me to the point that it was dripping in private parts and super ticklish. Again, not relaxing. 5) The entire massage felt like a 5 year old massaging me---super soft and not therapeutic at all. It was annoying beyond words. I spoke up and was told that they could not do anything harder--this was the massage I requested. Ok, I asked again and was told they would charge me more $ to get a harder massage. I said OK. 6) Once the more intense message started, it was ridiculously hard--she went from feathers to knives. HATED IT. This was LITERALLY THE WORST EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD --i am 50 years old and i was expecting the " spa circuit" with steam room, relaxation areas and a good massage. I've been a big believer in Ayurveda for years, but it's been quite a while since I've had a treatment. My sister in law treated me to a weekend Pancha Karma for my birthday and it is one of the best presents I've ever received. The consult with Martha was very informative -- she really helped me refine my diet and routines to support better health and deal with my present issues (excess Pitta/heat, poor sleep). The consult prepped me for the 5 day cleanse pre treatment and I actually found the cleanse easy and comfortable. And....I lost 6 lbs! That was a bonus. All of the therapists were kind, present, attentive and skilled. The massages were very luxurious and deeply nourishing (I've had many massages as former LMT myself). The space is beautiful and well thought out. The meals were fantastic, honestly I would love to eat there every week. I think Surya is wonderful whether you seek a spa experience to relax or more therapeutic treatment to address specific health concerns. First time experiencing Ayurvedic treatment and it's truly enlightening! From the warm oil to the scalp massage, each step of the Vishesh 60 minute treatment was absolute bliss. I'm a fan and convert. The treatment room itself was calming and peaceful. Mine had a private bathroom and shower so I was able to rinse off post treatment. However, one other person in our group of four did not have a shower in her treatment room, so if this is important or needed, I'd recommend requesting a room with the private bathroom. There are no other communal shower or spa facilities within the space. As far as the massage itself, it was a true deep tissue focused on the areas we discussed beforehand. Outstanding massage and a real professional masseuse (although I forgot her name! therapist had mid length blond hair ). Definitely recommend for a day spa experience when combined with lunch at Calabra! read more
