Mike M. Nuture Source Homes came into my 1970's and modernized it. They updated the kitchen, flooring and lighting. They did a beautiful job on my staircase and their interior paint job and color selection really made a difference. They also staged my house. After completion my house sold in about 3 weeks. My experience with NurtureSource was very positive. They were completely professional and responsive throughout the whole process. Never doing business again with this vendor. Our agent recommended them to remodel. But it is such a lousy work and we regret to have sign the agreement with them without check their references. The program manager is way behind doing quality control with several round of my checks and patches. Too many things I hate to list them all. But again, if you can find someone else, do not try them. They replaced a lock and leave a circular patch mark in our front door, even after their detailing man touched up the door for two times. They have been correcting a lot of things from design flaws to mismatch or downgraded features. Too much trouble in the end of the project. read more

Warning!!!!!! My ex wife was allowed to manage the recent sale of our house. She had a limited Power of Attorney that was very specific and did not allow for any kind of physical updates to the house. It did not allow any debt or credit to be advanced in my name. My wife ignored this and contracted NurtureSource who then refurbished the bathrooms, painted the house, redid the wood floors, etc. The final bill for their work was 98k. I say bill, but they actually skipped that part and immediately put a lien on the house. I was never given a detailed break-down or an itemization of costs or an opportunity to dispute the charges. They did provide a menu of sorts that included a contingency fee--so they could charge more if they felt like it--and a 3k charge for one interior closet door. There was zero oversight or any response to questions. My wife was culpable for misleading the court, but NurtureSource ignored a court order AND a strict power of attorney. They then held our house hostage by adding the lien. The experience was predatory: they took advantage of our situation, drastically over-charged us and received more money from the sale of the house then we did. I've reported this as fraud to the FTC and plan to engage more legally when my divorce is finalized but anyone else should make informed decisions before engaging with a company like this. They were legally prohibited from the work they did but they did it anyway. read more

They may be acceptable for you if you expect to stage to sell, but I would not trust Nurture if you expect to live in the property. When Nurture attempted to replace the steps of the wooden deck of our condo in Berkeley, they put steps down on top of a split beam and another on top of dry rot. Fortunately, we hired another company to repair the condo's deck, they uncovered Nurture's shoddy work, and the new company did the job right. read more

Our clients choose Gary and NutureSource to stage their home for sale. This involved some minor repairs, gardening and painting as well as the staging. This home was a mid century remodel. Gary and his crew did an amazing job. They took a light and spare hand to the staging to really show off the lines of the house. Their invoice was a little on the high side but I cannot argue with the results. Multiple offers and a truly superior winning bid. The NurtureSource staging was a definite contributing factor. Be aware on their pricing. First, you exchange contract with clear estimate and agree with it. Second, they do many additional things above and beyond contract, and will charge you for it. Next thing, your payment is nearly twice as much as the original estimate. Then what are you going do?? The end result was fine, but then you can always find someone with same or better sense of interior designing with clearer pricing policy. read more

This company "staged" the home I just bought. I seriously recommend that any realtor with a concern for your professional reputation avoid using them. Here are some problems we discovered, some of which substantially delayed our moving in: (1) NSD installed drywall that covered over all connections to and plumbing relating to the washer/dryer in the laundry area, leaving us to remove the drywall only to find that inadequate plumbing not disclosed to anyone; (2) NSD incorrectly installed sink and faucet such that (a) hose connecting dishwasher was attached using ONLY A BAGGY TWIST-TIE instead of a hose-clamp, leaving us with a flooded floor & need to replace; (b) pull-down faucet hose apparently does not pull out far enough; (3) NSD installed shower head with handle that is cracked & sprays all over, also requiring replacement; (4) NSD used depressing grey all over and used chalky/ugly paint in kitchen (doesn't seem to be semi-gloss). Whatever they charged for their work could better have been spent on quality upgrades to other areas of the house. read more

They did our master bath and hardwood floors. I agree with the pricing comments. We ended up going over the budget but to be fair we had to upgrade some things rather than refurbish existing fixtures. They did a great job though staying on time, working with our design ideas and doing quality work. We are very happy with the end product. And since we got more expensive quotes from other companies AND had friends who went through nightmare situations while doing their bathroom renovations with other companies we are very happy with our experience as a whole. read more

I agree with the review written by Kay above. I hired NurtureSource back in 2004 to help me prepare my Berkeley home for sale. They presented an estimate which seemed reasonable given the amount of work and said they would manage the design and construction but it was like pulling teeth to get them to come to the house and all their sub contractors were milling about directionless most days. Every time the owner of the company did come to the job site he'd add scope without consulting the client(me). It ended up taking three times as long as promised and costing twice as much by the end of the job. When challenged, all the owner of the company would do was point to the additional work that he had done (of his own accord without consulting me) and say that all "good design doesn't come cheap" and "you need to pay." To add insult to injury they presented a bill for an additional $5,000 a month after the job was complete for additional design services(Which I never approved). Since that time I've been heavily involved in the residential construction business and understand that this company didn't have the necessary design credentials or licensure to take on my job. They position themselves as a "middle-man" between the homeowner and relevant tradespeople and then charge a premium for design and construction management on the basis that they have "good taste". This would be fine if they were licensed architects, designers or even general contractors and they actually managed the process but they were not and did not. Things may have changed in the past 5 years but I would still recommend staying away from NurtureSource Designs. There are definitely better qualified and more competent design and construction professionals available for your job. read more
