The entire operation and everyone involved has been professional and focused on providing the best care possible. Dad experienced some medical problems (completely unrelated to the care provided by Visiting Angels) after a year into the VAO care program which resulted in changes to his living arrangements. VAO was understanding, cooperative, flexible, helpful and supportive in making adjustments to Dad's care program. It has now been nearly 18-months since VAO began providing services. We have never had a problem with billings, services, care-givers, or compliance with the scope of services provided by VAO and the outstanding staff. Dad has been cared for by one person for the overwhelming majority of time - but there has been a limited number of days when other caregivers were required to fill-in (due to illness, doctor visits, family emergencies, etc) for Dad's primary caregiver. The "substitute" caregivers were each well informed of Dad's condition/personality before arriving and each provided good, friendly, quality support that was welcomed by Dad. If you're ever in need of a reliable home health care service to provide care, companionship, light housekeeping services, assisting with meal preparation and clean-up, personal hygiene and grooming support, and a compassionate friend to help care for a loved one, I would certainly strongly recommend VAO. Reach out to Elizabeth or Kandice and find out how VAO can work with you in developing a program that works best for your loved ones needs and interests: the costs for care are very reasonable given the quality and reliability of services.

Even though they have awesome neighbors and friends, it was time to have more direct home care for them. I have the pleasure of speaking with and dealing with Veronica, she jumped into play and organized a game plan to assist with our parents. Veronica is on top of her game, she right away called our Mom's Doctor to find out her medications and Doctor appointments. Veronica set her up with a Caregiver right away and started on Wednesday. If you have elderly parents and don't' live by them---I would 100pct support and recommend Visiting Angels... Thanks, Veronica for your continued help and quick response's...

I don't think many of us anticipate, or plan for, the ending days of life as much as we plan for death. That is unfortunate because the comfort of a loved one in life is far more important than the memorial that is to follow. Vitas Healthcare in Lecanto was where my Mom spent the last 100 or so hours of her life. She was transported there after about 4 days in the hospital. By the time she arrived at Vitas, she was vegetative. It was a difficult time for my brother and for me, but we could see that Vitas was caring for her as well as could be done. My mother did not suffer, and she was treated with dignity in her final hours. Typing this now, a few weeks later, it is still an emotional experience, but I can say with conviction that I do not believe my mother could have been in a better place in her final hours. That thought gives me a lot of comfort. The staff was great, both in dealing with my Mom and in dealing with my brother and me. If you are in the Lecanto area, you are fortunate to have Vitas Healthcare as a resource when you need it.

I had a new client that lived in a roach-infested apt. but didn't know because it wasn't told to me. people can't help their situations. However, the company should go out and see what the client needs and take notes while at the client's home. of possible dangers to the caregiver when it says light housekeeping that generally means dusting and picking things up off the floor. personal care has a wide range of things to do. I am looking for someplace that troubleshoots the client prior to the caregivers going to there.

The reason for being transported to the hospital stemmed from her encounter with a physical therapist(name unknown) from Horizons Home Health Care Agency in Springhill Florida. My mother had been previously diagnosed with an intestinal blockage, placed on a liquid diet for approx.3 days, and was able to walk and rise from bed with assistance ONLY! She was in the care of Horizon Home Care and making some progress. She was prescribed steroids to allow her bowels to pass and was responding to the treatment as she had her first movement that morning. At approximately 1:00 pm on the same date, my mother and I received a scheduled visit from the physical therapist representing Horizon Home Health Care. After a preliminary examination an extensive discussion regarding her current medical condition, the therapist attempted to have my mother get up from the bed she was lying in and walk with the aid of a walker and himself trailing. My mother quickly became exhausted and asked that she be placed back into bed. I advised the therapist that she required assistance to fully lie in a supine position. The therapist then stated to me that we should allow her to do this herself without assistance and waived my hand away when I tried to offer assistance. I insisted that she required assistance and once again I was rebutted. My mother blindly listened to the instructions given to her by a licensed physical therapist and attempted to lift her legs and torso back into bed. At this exact moment, she started to scream hysterically and cry uncontrollably. It was evident that she was experiencing a high level of distress and an exacerbated level of pain. It was at this point that I instructed the therapist not to touch my mother and to please leave the house. He refused to leave, ignoring my initial request. Instead, he attempted to raise and lower the hospital bed she was laying on it in a fruitless attempt to alleviate the excruciating pain she was experiencing. She screamed even louder when he did this but he continued to do so.(It wasn't until later that I found out from the E.R. physician at Bayonet Point that her colon had been ripped and was now poisoning her body with impacted excrement.) Three times I told the Physical therapist to leave the house and three times he ignored my directives. It was only on the fourth attempt, when I had to raise my voice and curse at him did he finally leave. All this time my mother is screaming in what must have been' hellfire' pain. I immediately called 911 and had my mother transported to Bayfront Medical in Spring Hill. She became critical while in route, and a decision was made to transport her to the nearest trauma center; Bayonet Point. I was contacted by the ER Physician who advised me of the severity of the situation and requested I sign a DNR? A D.N.R ? I was just laughing and joking with this woman at breakfast, now I'm signing a DNR for her lunch? I was in shock !! Apparently, due to the severity of the tear and the leakage of fecal matter into the abdominal cavity, her B.P. dropped and she was quickly being poisoned and rapidly decompensating. I arrived at Bayonet Point Hospital at approximately 3:30 PM only to be advised that my mother had died. I could not believe that the people I had blind trust in to render quality care are the same people who ultimately expedited her demise. I didn't even get a chance to say my goodbyes. There is no question in my mind that if the Physical Therapist never met my mother that she would still be alive today. It is only through his ineptness and incompetence that my mother met an early death. I even questioned the therapist at the time he made the appointment as to the appropriateness of even receiving physical therapy in her current physical condition. I was assured that an assessment would be made and a follow-up done in accordance. I didn't expect him to instruct my mother to do such irreparable damage to herself that it would end in her death. I also find it increasingly troublesome that the therapist did not leave the property when instructed to do so but instead carried out his private agenda. He acted as tho I wasn't even there. That part was downright frightening. Here I have a strange man (never met this guy before), in my house who just hurt my mother, and I can't get rid of him, seriously? My next step was the police but I wasn't sure if they would be calling for him or me. I believe this to be blatant elderly abuse precipitated through ineptness and incompetence which sadistically resulted in a patients death. It almost sounds criminal and if it isn't it sure as hell should be. I loved my mother very dearly and miss her more than words can describe. Damn You Horizon! You killed my Mom!!!
