I saw this booth this and last year's Gluten Free Expo. I lost their card last time hence the combined review. This was one of the booths that intrigued me before I went into the festival as I've been hearing a lot about this food technology and wanted to eat it for myself to see what the hype and trend was about. To summarize what it is: Regular pasta is made with wheat, a starch which has calories. NuPasta is made with the root of the konjac plant which is rich in dietary fibre and has no starch. The absence of starch is the reason why NuPasta is so low in calories. I have used Konjac powder on a regular basis in my baking and when I make healthier milk shakes as a thickener. I am familiar with the ingredient itself. As a pasta I will be honest in saying that it tasted really gross. I have had other low carb pasta's, however, the problem with this is that the sauce never sticks, therefore, you're tasting the awfulness of the pasta and not the sauce properly mixed in. It is filling but you do feel as though something is missing. So why the 4 rating then? Taste is subjective and this is my personal feeling on the product but I am not going to give them such a terrible rating as they were super friendly, I appreciate this company being innovative on the market and the fact that they took a chance. read more
