Sukiyaki Set
Richmond O.

This is purely based on ordering from the website. Site works well and the options were concise. Opted for the A5 Sukiyaki Set. The delivery fee ii thought was relatively reasonable. Was amazed by the quality of the beef along with the vegetables. Was able to cook without any problems! Definitely will be ordering again.

Australian Wagyu

Famu is definitely a butcher I would highly recommend checking out for a special occasion. Came by to pick up some steaks for a late fathers day BBQ and always wanted to try grilling some high quality steaks. I ended up sous viding the 3 pieces (1 A5 Miyazaki and 2 Aussie Wagyu) and tossed it on the BBQ grill for some colour. Wow did the finished product go beyond any of mine and my family's expectation. The experience of buying from Famu was top notch. The help I received from one of the ladies, I think she may be the owner was incredible. Very knowledgeable, took the time to understand what I was looking for, asked a lot of questions about what my intentions were with this, how many people I was cooking for, and most importantly what my budget was. Wagyu is not cheap by any means, but totally worth it for a celebration. I would say that the consensus was that the Miyazaki was definitely the best, however only in little portions. The richness of A5 is almost dessert like, just melts in your mouth, super fatty. The Australian Wagyu, we all agreed would be better as a meal, still very tender, melt in your mouth characteristics as the A5, however the biggest difference here is that there is more beefy richness than the A5. It's a good blend between A5 fattiness, and a nice beefy quality steak. Don't get me wrong, I would in a heartbeat have a nice piece of Miyazaki if I could. I'd highly recommend checking Famu out if you're a meat lover, despite the cost, it'll still be cheaper to cook your own vs going out to a restaurant to have the same quality of meat.

Super expensive but beautiful meats!! I can't wait to be able to share one with my friends at some point.

Japanese Wagyu ... all set for a sukiyaki party

Have been ordering meats from Famu for at least 5, 6 years. Found in J-Town, it's a Japanese butcher (probably the only one found in the city); both owners are very familiar with meats and are always available to answer any questions that you might have. It's also extremely clean! You can find a number of meats in different forms; we always purchase ground chicken, pork, and beef as it's always fresh. I would also recommend their prepared stuff. I always have a pack of the premade hamburgers in the freezer as it comes in handy on the nights that you don't want to cook. Additionally, their take away lunch sets are pretty good as well. For a reasonable price, you can have a chicken katsu or curry rice meal. Good for: meats, premade meals

Wagyu galore!

Ah well an authentic Japanese butcher! They carry a whole range of Japanese cuts of meats and a lot of organic meats including organic burgers, sausages etc. Some of the biggest selection of Wagyu I have seen in the city with best marbling I have witnessed compared to other stores that sell this stuff. In addition to Aussie and US Wagyu they sometimes even have Wagyu from Japan. Prices are in line with other places selling this quality of meat. I would just like to frame the tray of Wagyu for shabu shabu in my place if I could. Good service and one can place a bigger order which comes neatly packed Japanese style in individual wraps for each serving. Interestingly their Non Wagyu meats are quite good too and have higher than normal marbling one finds at other butchers. Some cooked items like Tataki, croquets are also available for purchase. One can spend a lot of money real fast here.

Come here to get your wagyu beef! It's amazing quality, and cheaper than going to a restaurant, that's for sure. They got lots of other stuff too, like ox tail, ready to eat food, and different kinds of pork. Definitely get their Berkshire pork, it's great! Best pork you'll have in your life!

Beef tataki

Had lunch at Shiso Tree the other day, and figured that if I was in the area, I might as well stop by the market and see if there was anything interesting. Ended up walking past Famu's prepared foods section, and noticed that there was a tiny box of beef tataki for $3.80. I bought it. Inside, there were six thin slices of rare beef, served with a tangy soy sauce, more tangy than salty. It was the best beef tataki I've ever had. It could have done with a touch more salt though. I was concerned that it might be chewy, because I've had a number of experiences where the cut of beef used for the tataki had tough connective tissue that made for some less-than-fun chewing, but this beef tataki was incredibly tender and if I see more of it next time, I will most definitely buy it again. Pretty sure it wasn't wagyu, because that special kind of marbling was absent, but it was delicious nonetheless.

This place is slightly hard to find. It's located in a dogey plaza in the east end of Markham. I…read moreonly found out of this place through a friend because she brought in some really tasty meats for our last BBQ. I don't think I would have ever stepped into this place otherwise. Once you enter in, someone greets you and asks you what you want. Everything is pre-bagged so you just tick off which meats you want and they pull it out of the tray or fridge for you. I ordered a bag of kalbi ribs, two bags of chicken thighs in different flavours. I don't find the kalbi really tasty for some reason. Maybe the marinade is too light but I wasn't a fan of the texture of the meat either. The chicken thighs on the other hand kicked it out of the ball park. The curry one is soooo juicy and delicious and I love the flavours. Prices are pretty good too. I can't remember exactly how much it was but I think the 3 bags were under $30 and they were more than enough to feed a family of 6.

Tried this place once to get meat for bbq and got the beef short ribs, lemongrass chicken, squid,…read moreand chicken wings. Everything is marinated beforehand so this would be great if you planned a last minute bbq. I would get everything but the squid again. The squid didn't have any unique flavour to it and was quite bland in my opinion. If you get it I would recommend adding some sauce prior to putting it on the grill. As a side note, the shop's location has changed, which is shown on a notice at the door. They are located at another unit, called Ah Fong, in the same plaza. The plaza itself is super run down but don't judge a book by its cover - the meat here is amazing!
