Amazing. Simply amazing. This is the third city I've visited in Italy and so far this is the best food I've had. In my opinion, it would be a crime not to order a seafood dish here. In particular, the "Baccalà mantecato con polenta" and the "Spaghetti con seppie in nero" were outrageous. I was hesitant to try both of these dishes as I'm not a huge fan of baccala or black pasta, but they absolutely blew my mind. Each dish is presented beautifully and the servers are very honest about each dish and what it entails. The environment is very welcoming, as it is classy without being too upscale. If you're in Venice, definitely check this place out! I doubt you'll regret it. read more

Loved this spot in Venice, no reservation needed and the mushroom ravioli was incredible. One of my favorite dishes of our trip! I loved the limoncello spritz as well! My hubby loved his pizza and house red wine. All in all, recommend! read more

This was one of the better restaurants in Venice. 1. No reservation needed, had lots of empty seats 2. Food: much better than others grilled oyster was amazing! Their pasta is great, just avoid the veal. it is bad. 3. Service: slow but good 4. Ambience: wooden tables and eatery like, nothing fancy 5. Close from all key points in Venice I still recommend this over other restaurants. read more

This is a very nice little restaurant in Venice in the small streets. Food - Their spaghetti with meatballs was great, I loved the al dente texture of the spaghetti Service - Good Parking - Nowhere near as Venice has almost no roads for cars. Water taxis, ferries and walking are the best options Overall, this place is great. read more

Arrogant and unfriendly. Undercooked, poorly seasoned. The food here is prepared likely by a robot running a microwave. The sea bass if that was the fish served gave me and my friend horrible diarrhea and cramps all night. All of this priced at twice the rate of MUCH better restaurants that are a short walk away. Dont eat here. read more

The Spaguetti Nero and Spaghetti Pomodoro were delicious, the seafood and chicken just ok, the tiramisu was pretty good, but the portion was too small; I'll come back for the Spaghetti and Tiramisu. The service was quick and very friendly. The ambiance was ok but could improve with some background music. read more

Venezia is beautiful and romantic, especially in late Fall and Winter, when tourists have gone and locals are more friendly and hospitable. Venice is not known to be a culinary destination in Italy, so outside of the typical touristy pizza and spaghetti joints, the neighborhood restaurants offer standard Venetian fare: various seafood plates, local fish mostly smaller varieties like sardines, anchovy, so if you're a pescatarian, Venice is gonna be fun eating foray. Our search for a good restaurant, because one of my faves was closed during winter, brought us here. Venetian food almost always starts with a seafood plate or salad, parboiled and served with olive oil and vinegar and local fish, well some Norwegian varieties too. https://www.greatitalianchefs.com/features/fish-varieties-venice Then the main courses consist of more seafood (catch of the day) or local game, pastas (bigoli in anchovy, or squid ink) and other plates mostly relatable as Italian but not as distinctive. Cicchetti (tapas) are pretty good and plentiful however, and this is what is fun to eat in Venice as most bars will offer a variety of cicchetti of some sort, and they go nicely with a glass or 3 of local wines. Except for the fegato alla Venezia (calf's liver...another Venetian staple that can be found in most restaurants), there's not much thats non-seafood on plates here. Our visit in winter which afforded us a good variety of fresh shellfish (clams, mussels, shrimp, langostini) were tasty and sweet. Service was very good. The food? Standard. I would say what stood out the most was the risotto, perfectly made with saffron and wine highlighting the seafood. We fought for it. It was a good experience for Venetian food and the price? Cheap for Venice. Tip: Unless you have kids with you, stay away from the tourist offerings like pizza, spaghetti and meatballs, as these are not local specialties and are cranked out by a cook to add revenue to the restaurant. read more

There's at least 4 ways for a Tourist to find a place for Lunch in Venice: 1. Pick up a Tour Book of your choice and take one of their recommendations. 2. Do the same thing on TripAdvisor, Gogobot, Yelp, or another review site. 3. Find the most crowded and touristy place available, get in the line and enjoy! 4.. Wander around off the beaten track, pick a place, and just sit down. Eric, Gayle, Jim, and I picked Option 4 most of the time and Nuova Valiglia was a Sunday Lunch choice after a long and fascinating tour of the Doge's Palace. We sat outside and enjoyed a reasonably tasty, yet mostly forgettable meal. OK, I remember pizza, beer, a decent Tourist menu, reasonable service, and walking over to a back canal and watching the gondola traffic while we waited. read more

Wonderful ambiance. House wine is delicious and inexpensive. Great service staff. The calamari fritti was perfect--tender, but lightly breaded and crispy. The lobster pasta was molto delizioso and pasta was perfect al dente. The tiramisu was delightful but not cloying sweet. Bathrooms and environment was clean. 10/10 would recommend. Seems like all the negative reviews are tourists read more

This was close to our hotel, Rosa Salva, and the service was quite attentive. We had a light polenta starter, with a kind of creamed fish dip, and I really enjoyed my squid ink pasta. Very flavorful. I guess the only off putting thing about dinner was our seating location: we were seated outside, where there were tables lined along the restaurant building, so twice during dinner, we heard a man (the same man both times) sing in Italian while he was . . . ah, on the toilet. Thankfully we couldn't hear the happenings, but it was confirmed by the toilet flushing both times post-Pavarotti. Some may be offended, others may find it charming. I think it's a situation where one shrugs their shoulders to indicate: "eh, welcome to Italy!" read more

I was a little underwhelmed. This is prime tourist areas with price text to match and I would expect that the quality of the food would reflect the price is being charged. I didn't particularly care for the texture of the gnocchi - it was overcooked and chewy. The pasta was dried out a little too much. All in all it was OK read more

Kids were hungry and needed a quick lunch. Stopped here out of convenience since they had a lot of open tables. I thought the service was good. Attentive and spoke English. There was occasionally a bad smell outside (which is not uncommon in Venice in the summer). I did not eat but the kids got spaghetti & meatballs and fish & chips. My wife got the spaghetti bolognese. Food came out in less than 10 minutes which is a concern anywhere, especially in Italy! The fish and chips were good. Fries were good and my son really like the fried fish. The spaghetti and meatballs were disappointing. I agree with the review that said this food is not homemade...meatballs taste like they were frozen and heated in the microwave. The spaghetti bolognese was fine. Good and edible but nothing to write home about. All in all this is a fine pitstop if you're looking for a quick, convenient bite to eat, but definitely pass if you are looking for quality and value. read more

It's difficult to go wrong with restaurant in Venice but this one is a bad choice. When ordering a glass of the house red wine, the server said it was no good and recommended a bottle, which wasn't good either. The service and food were poor at best - look elsewhere!! read more

I do not recommend this place at all. After eating at restaurants in Milan, it seems as if they make the sauce on the spot because I can ask for pasta without garlic, but at Nuova Valigia I had to go through several selections on the menu to find something that did not have garlic. I ended up ordering lasagna and it tasted like they pulled it out of a TV dinner box and put it in the microwave. They also keep the door open and it gets chilly inside the restaurant and flies get in. Skip this place and walk into the next restaurant. Save your time and money! read more

Decided to try place after walking around. Went inside and looked up rating on yelp and got a little nervous. We asked about cover charge and received answer that made no sense. Waiter told us if we didn't like food we would not have to pay. We ordered drinks and he gave us some bread. The bread had ants!! We decided to leave. We reminded waiter he said if we didn't like food we didn't have to pay. He said not drinks you must pay. He insisted we pay the 20 euro for drinks. 20 euro for bad atmosphere and contaminated food with ants!!! STAY AWAY!!!!!! read more

Deicicous food and good service. We started with caprese salad, which was fresh and delicious. We then had spaghetti with seafood and prosciutto pizza. Both dishes were delicous and fresh. The pasta was cooked perfectly. The seafood was tender and delicious. The pizza crust was some of the best we have had while touring Italy. The service was good. We couldnt have asked for a better meal read more

Great service particularly by Rocky. He was very welcoming, attentive and caring. We enjoyed their calamari (light batter and tender on the inside), heir risotto was the right portion, very flavorful and filling. I can understand how other people may rate it low because they expect too much. For me, I do feel that I did get the value of what we paid for. In the end, it was Rocky's service that made the experience unrivaled compared to other restaurants we tried during our trip to Venice. read more

This is a lovely resturant next door to our hotel. We didn't want to go far and my friends already had lunch there. They raved over it and had no problem going for more. In Italy what pasta dish can I try and get the authentic feel/taste?!! I settled for Pasta Carbonara. Lush cream and crisp prosciutto layered throughout fresh pasta. It was plentiful and I couldn't think of how I could finish. I ordered a nice white to pair with my dish. I believe the combo was around 17 euros. The staff is attentive and is at the ready to pour, clean, and order more food at a moments notice. You have your choice of dinning inside or the tables for 2 along the side of the restaurant. read more

Stay away... tourist trap! We normally check reviews but didn't this time as it was getting late and we were hungry. Be aware of prices when you order... we were quoted $45 for a bottle of wine but got billed $85; we had 2 bottles. When we questioned it, the waiter made no effort to make an adjustment. We were also charged for the small plate of bruchetta that was brought to our table. The food was OK at best. We shared a plain pizza as an appetizer which was ok. The waiter brought a plate with 4 small slices of bread drizzled with a bit of olive oil & topped with chopped tomatoes ... the bread was a huge disappointment- not very fresh or flavorful. As I mentioned, we didn't order it so we were surprised to be charged $8 for this poor example of bruschetta. We all ordered different 'fresh' pasta dishes but the 'fresh pasta' didn't taste as such and was a big disappointment. The Arrabbiata sauce was good, the seafood pasta dishes were ok. aside from these issues, there were so many gnats and flying insects and one of one of our group had several bites when we left. There are far better restaurants here in Venice, less expensive, with better food and not shady with the bill! read more

4 of us from the USA stopped here for dinner because it was close to our hotel. What a mistake! The dining room was tacky. Service was very slow. Each of us ordered a different entree so we could sample more of their cuisine. The main courses were all lousy and the dinner rolls were the worst ever! We were not aware of Italy's tipping practice. So when we saw the 'cover charge' at the top of our bill, we asked the waiter if that was added as a tip. He said absolutely not. That was a lie. It WAS part of the tip because the restaurant also added a service charge of 12%. There was no need for additional tipping but we didn't realize it until after we laid a 15% tip on the table and left. Would NOT recommend this place to anyone. There are too many places in Venice that have excellent food and great service. read more

Got into Venice late on a Friday night and only had a quick minute to see Venice before departing the next morning at 11am. After taking a great canal tour to Plaza San Marco, it was well past 9pm and there were limited eating options available in the surrounding area. Saw a decent amount of people already dining at Nuova Valigia and thought it couldn't have been terrible food. Had a mussel and clam appetizer (which ultimately would have been enough for my meal) for 12 Euros and a spaghetti carbonara for 13 Euros. Both were really good and I couldn't barely finish half of my spaghetti carbonara and there were quite a bit of bacon pieces. The sauce wasn't too creamy but I could have been satisfied with just eating one dish or the other. I wasn't too thrilled about paying 3.50 Euros for hot water with a lemon but it is what it is. Restaurant and restrooms were very clean and the staff were quite pleasant. read more

This place left a bad taste in our mouth for a number of reasons. The sign outside was misleading and didn't match the reality inside. The sign said something about no service charges, but there was a cover charge (maybe this was our fault for not checking details? I later read an article that some places are tricky like this). Plastered over the sign was that they accepted credit cards, but failed to explain a minimum was required. Service staff was rude. They didn't want to give us water, which may be a common practice in Italy, but they didn't even give us bread like other tables had despite charging us the cover charge. Food and ambiance was nothing special to remember. We sat by the door and were bothered by how aggressively the service staff approached the tourists to get them inside. Regretted having lunch here as there wasn't anything pleasant about it! read more

We decided to go to this place because it was "busy" and we were super hungry while walking around Venice. The service was very slow to the point where we had to reach out to different waiters just to get different things. When we sat down, it was not until 30 minutes later when they finally came to get our order. It then took them another hour to get our food. The food was good. It was not the best, but still, it was good! We asked one of the waiters to cut our pizza for us, and she refused to cut it so we had to sit and cut out slices of pizza since there were 9 of us. Very rude service. When we got the bill, we were surprised to see that they charged 3 euros per person for "cover" charge, which ended up being 27 euros. We left without tipping as our cover charge should cover their tip for their horrible service. I would never recommend this place to anyone! read more
