Came to Number Nine a few times during the weekday and it was pretty chill. Not too much of a crowd, but the decor was nice with a slight upscale vibe. There was also a good amount of people to talk to and meet. Two for One drink special is good of course and the prices are decent. This seemed to be one of the more pregame type of bars where you go to first for that buzz and then you move somewhere else to get all crazy. It is also a great hip bar for the younger DC crowd, but it can be a tight squeeze sometimes. read more

Worst bar ever. The bartenders are ridiculously stuck up and refuse to honor drink tickets during happy hour. They argue over the happy hour and refuse to honor it, then send people who don't work for the bar to ask you to leave. If you're not in the "in crowd" then they don't want you to be there. read more

This was the first gay bar I've ever been to, and it was so much fun. I came with a group of people from work after one person wanted to go here. The crowd was so friendly, and the happy hour was great. Buy one drink, get one free (and after 8pm)? Yes, please! The only downside was probably how crowded it was (obviously a well-liked place), and so, I could barely move around, but everyone was so polite when he/she tried to pass by our group. read more

A fun bar in the heart of Logan Circle. Get's super crowded Thursday-Saturday. If you are looking for a place to go to meet a lot of people and listen to the latest dance mixes, this is your spot. Wouldn't recommend for folks looking for something more low-key and quiet. This is the place for your most extroverted self to shine and enjoy a BOGO happy hour special! read more

I highly recommend number nine! I have been going there for sometime now and they always take really good care of me. Their drinks are yummie and their staff Drew, buck, and Mike are super nice and respectful. I always have a great time with all the bartenders, it amazes me when they remember exactly what I just ordered. I will definitely be back with a bigger group next time! read more

Awesome meet up and hang out place. Great atmosphere and the happy hour 2 for 1 is too good to pass up. The bartenders are always friendly and acknowledge you. Buck, Drew and Tim are amazing! read more

Great gay bar to hang out. The drinks are greart. Staffs are friendly. The crowd is diverse and inclusive. Good happy hours everyday till 9. Looking for a daddylike bartender, he makes good drinks. read more

Nice bartender, good drink! Love the physical aspects of the bar! The materials used for construction and the light fixtures - awesome! Modern but inviting. Went with my friend to have a quick drink- perfect place to chill and catch up! Enjoy read more

It's a decent, bi-level bar. You don't come here to dance. You come here to drink. This is the only spot in DC that I know of that has two for one drinks; just make sure you're there before 9:00 pm. read more

Great Happy Hour Special! The new outdoor patio is great for people watching. The new skylights upstairs in Number Nine 1/2 are great!! read more

Number Nine - What a great Friday Happy Hour! - Gay Bars Near Me - Washington, DC, District of Columbia

I really liked this place because there was a very eclectic group of people. Initially, I thought the drinks were expensive until I realized that when you buy a drink, you are given a ticket to get another of the same drink "free." Seating lined the walls so it was easy to move inside and get to the bar. Despite how busy it was, the bartender was very nice, not rude and short. I never made it to the upstairs part, but I will definitely explore on my return visit. read more

Everyone needs a "home away from home" bar while on the road, right? Well... maybe alchies like me do. Keep the judgement to yourself. In any case... #9 was that bar for me. I first discovered #9 on my first night in DC, which was a Friday. It was a zoo in there. Both levels were filled with shoulder-to-shoulder people doing their S&M (stand & model) thing while listening to trite Top 40 songs and sipping overpriced specialty cocktails. It seemed a bit too West Hollywood for my taste. The subsequent visits were on weekday nights, when the vibe is much more relaxed -- in other words, more up my alley. 2-for-1 drink specials meant gin-and-sodas that were surprisingly affordable in an expensive city like DC. The friendly bartenders made smalltalk about the finer points of east coast vs. west coast drag culture. Most importantly, there was actually a place to sit. There's people-watching galore at #9. I could swear I saw a Congressman slipping benjamins into the back pocket of a rentboy and then discreetly walking out with him. Or it might've all been my imagination. Perception is a funny thing. In either case, I'll definitely be back here. read more

Treats lesbians like we are worthless! Asked for a double talk, was told ny a customer " you can't order doubles here". Treated poorly because we are female. Screw this bullshit! read more

Rudest bartender I have ever experienced in my life. We walked up to the serving station closest to the door on the first level, and the bartender looked us right in the eye and walked away and started talking to his coworker. I refuse to spend my money here. You might be able to open a hip bar and get by giving attitude to your customers for a while but if you don't change your ways eventually another hip bar will open nearby and you'll be history. read more

Normally I really like visiting this bar when visiting from Denver. Stood at the order station for awhile waiting to be served. The bartender was talking to others and this went on for ten minutes. Ok, I got a little upset, but wrote it off. Went to cash out after our 2nd drink of the whole evening and received the same treatment. Bartender talking to the same guys! People can be so cute but if they only knew how ugly attitude makes them....will go back but I will order from another bartender if possible. read more

So the ambience is great. I just think the bartenders are rude. Just because you're cute does not mean people should tip you exceedingly or treat you oh so special. Honestly, if I was white, I would be treated a different way. Sad. read more

The newest addition to the bar scene in DC and we are so glad you are here!!!! Yes folks, it's a gay bar and it is FABULOUS!!! Thank you Ed Bailey and John Guggenmos for creating another great destination... no a new experience. With the departure several years ago of Titan/Ramrod, Hamburger Mary's/Dakota Cowgirl and then Halo/MOVA just last year, those of us who live in the neighborhood felt quite a sense of loss. You have arrived and saved the day! As soon as you arrive you can see through the window what a welcoming and warm yet chic environment has been created. You walk in the door and you feel it, hear it and experience it. Whether you want to sit or stand you are set. Now let's talk about the drink menu... full-service bar - of course - and quite the fantastic menu of specialty drinks several that include homemade infused flavored syrups. I especially love that Number 9 is going to keep it simple... long happy hour (5pm - 9pm) including 2 for 1 drinks and no calendar of nightly specials or activities to keep up with. The owners have created a beautiful place for people to socialize and imbibe... what more can you ask for? CONGRATULATIONS Number 9... JOB WELL DONE and Thank you! read more

With a few friends in tow we stumbled on this place after happy hour around the corner. Didn't realize it was a gay bar until every single guy in the place was drop dead gorgeous. Anyway we scored a booth with a front row view of the presidential debate on TV (not your usual happy hour but hey it was fun). Drink specials were buy one get one free. Unisex bathroom was spotless (but they still leave the seat up). To recap - great area, beautiful crowd, drinks, clean bathrooms = 5 stars Gay or not this place should be on your happy hour hangout list. We will go back! read more

Two friends and I went to happy hour here yesterday. It's down the street from her apartment and they 2 for 1 drink specials sounded nice. Plus, usually gay bars are nice to go to when you're hanging with the girls and don't feel like getting hit on. Unfortunately this place was less than stellar. The bartender was not at all personable. He never smiled and didn't speak other than to ask what we wanted and to give us our total. When we finished our drinks and went back to order our free one, he asked us for our "tickets." Which he had never given us, or told us about. But apparently when you buy your first drink, you should get a ticket. Now, not even 20 minutes had passed. There were 30 people in the bar at the most. Plus we were sitting right in front of him the whole time. He remembered us. He knew we hadn't gotten our free drink. And even if he didn't know, he should have given us the benefit of the doubt, or given us a half price drink. Something. He's a bartender, I know he could have done something. I don't know whether he was just a crappy bartender or if it was because we were straight, but we will never be going back. The one redeeming quality was the drinks. I ordered the Lavendar Lemon drop, which I recommend passing up, it was like a straight shot of vodka. But my friends ordered mojitos, which they said were quite nice. read more

Great place but super judgy crowd early Saturday. I felt no love. 2 for 1 night but 12 bucks for a vodka Sprite. Weak, bartender was a space cadet who only responds to similarly ripped white bearded men. Shame because the music was great, nice setup...just too much desperation. Next. read more

The boys are better looking than the fireplace. The drinks arent strong but thats prob because of the 2 for 1 special during the week. I would suggest going to the fireplace 1st to get drunk or buzzed then go to number 9 to troll for better looking guys if youre on the hunt for the D read more

Cool, crisp, classy, clean. The management/owners of every other gay bar in this city need to take a field trip here. The two-for-one drink specials are serious pours and apply to anything you can think to order, from top shelf to BudLite. The interior design is so high end as to be almost intimidating, especially if one has been frequenting a smelly skank-hole like the Green Lantern. There's even a doorman greeting patrons arriving for happy hour. The bartenders are friendly yet highly professional; everyone is made welcome and treated like a guest. The clientele is upscale and mannerly. Excellent venue to jump start a real date, or to bring out of town visitors. read more

Bad energy, rude staff, and desperate clientele. At least the decor is tasteful and the happy hour is cheap. I used to like their Arab night, but that doesn't happen any more. The place just doesn't have much to offer and the staff is a deal breaker. read more

I travel to DC a lot of times during the year. This place has your typical mixed crowd. The door staff are great, as are most of the bartender though those working behind the bar need to consider being a little more social and friendly to customers. Upper bar staff was great on my last visit Easter Sunday Night, but the lower bar had a bartender who refused to even crack a smile, say hello or thank you for tipping him. read more

Very weak, but expensive drinks. Good music and people though. Great location too. But coose somewhere else for good drinks.

I have been wanting to check this place out since the end of summer when I would see people enjoying their cocktails on the sidewalk furniture. We finally got around to coming in on a Friday night to get the 2 for 1 drink deal. The place was packed, which was to be expected. I was a little disappointed with the vibe for the mood we were in; it wasn't the party atmosphere we were looking for, but that's okay, now we know what to expect. Also, they used a lot of crushed ice in our cocktails, so not sure how much 'drink' we actually got, but hey you get 2 for the price of 1, so I can forgive. Before we left, someone mentioned to us that there was also an upstairs to this place, but we didn't end up seeing it while we were there. Will check it out again and try the upstairs. read more

Spent a chill Saturday evening here a few weeks ago. Would have walked right past if I wasn't meeting friends there. The vibe was awesome, the people were friendly, and the bartenders were like wizards. I drank some insanely tasty cocktails, and the best part was the happy hour two-for-one pricing - even on a Saturday night! Awesomeness. Apparently it's known as a gay bar, but I didn't really care one way or another, and none of the guys there seemed to mind a group of girls and a few straight men just chilling in the back. :) I'll definitely be back. read more

I have gone to Number Nine infrequently for the past several years. This year, I have been going more often. I normally have a good time and the service is usually fair. This past Saturday, a good friend and I went there to have drinks after dinner. As usual I bought drinks. I normally buy two to three drinks when I go there and when I treat friends, I end up spending at least $100 dollars. On Saturday, my friend and I were on drink two. We were standing upstairs in front of the staircase, about 50 feet from the restroom area. We were able to stand and talk and rest our drinks on a ledge connected to the staircase. While me and my friend were chatting, there was a Number Nine employee (not sure what his title is) who walked by several times picking up supposedly empty glasses. One particular time, this guy asked me and my friend if were still drinking our drinks. We said "YES." A few minutes later, this same employee came back and took our drinks anyway. We were NOT even halfway done with those drinks that costed at least $10 a piece. My friend went and bought us two more drinks. When I saw this employee walk by again, I called him over and asked what his name was. He told me his name was Alec. I explained to him that he had taken our drinks when we were not finished. He asked if I saw him take our drinks. My friend told him "yes, we did." Alec rebutted "Don't give me attitude." I then told him that I was going to let management know. Alex walked off. He came back to me after a few minutes and said "My manager knows," (with major attitude)and walked off. I was floored at how dismissive and rude employee Alec was to me and my friend. And if he was telling the truth about Number Nine's management--shame on them! I have heard rumors about racial discrimination at Number Nine before, but I have never experienced it. I cannot say that Alec's treatment of us was because of the color of our skin, but I can say he was very rude and dismissive. This not may not serve justice for me and my buddy, but I will NOT be spending another coin at Number Nine and I will not recommend it as a nice place to grab drinks at. I will also post this communication to every social platform I can think of. read more

Great drinks.. The music was awesome for a Friday night, as well... I even love the feel of the 70's porn themed sofa upstairs and to the back, with all of the mirrors... read more

This place is pretty spiffy. The music is fun and relaxed but not to dull or loud. You can feel the energy when you walk in and the staff is super friendly. Great drinks. I personally love the mojito! There the best in town. Tables for two and great lighting. Very clean (even the bathrooms) Perfect for a first date or to catch up with friends after work. I give number nine two enthusiastic thumbs up. read more

Awesome new lounge in Logan Circle. Excellent 2 for 1 drink special during happy hour.

My introverted and liquor-loving sides appreciate this place's mellow atmosphere at 2pm on any given Saturday. That's when their two-for-one happy hour begins! More well known for being a 'nightlife' gay bar scene, yet you can't beat the subdued lighting, low-volume classic pop tracks, and cooling mister over the patio on a hot day. Appurtenant to its vibe is the unburdened and attentive bar tender who is willing to try mixing new cocktails I've randomly pulled from the internet. Though I've been to the place at night and appreciate its genial qualities, I really wanted to highlight an alternative experience that can be had at Number Nine. read more

Love the way the placed looked! Bartenders were sharp and remembered who I was and my drink. Number 9 is a good place in the hood with strong drinks and lots of eye candy. The interior is much nicer than when it was Halo or Mova. I don't go very often (I'm a little older and can't keep up like I used to ;) but usually take out-of-town friends. The only slight negative is that there are a fair number of women who go there. I realize that the bar is open to everyone, but it loses its character as a gay men's bar when there are straight girls roaming around. I was there the other night with friends, and had a perfectly good time, read more

My friend Jose is a bartender here so I go often. I love this bar and would recommend it to anyone. They have a great buy one/get one happy hour, and the crowd is normally manageable. It's a pretty decent after work place to go and relax before heading home. read more

Number Nine is close enough to work that it's become somewhat of a "go-to" bar when we're looking for a happy hour spot. But only when spaced many, many months apart, because a happy hour at Number Nine will do you dirty. Well, it did me and my friend dirty. Clubby music, not the friendliest bartenders, sure, but they make great drinks! The two-for-one happy hour can be a blessing or a curse ("oh I'll just have one more" automatically becomes two more). I recommend checking it out at least once! read more

Warning! This is not a dance club. It is a bar! Yelp or whomever has improperly labeled it. The establishment is very cosmopolitan and they have a DJ but there really is no dance floor. read more

Number Nine is a bright spot in a inexplicably dim D.C. gay bar scene. They offer two-for one happy hour drinks every evening until 9, which is a great deal. The interior is cool and sleek, and more like a NYC bar than anywhere else I've been in D.C. The two-floor space is adequate for a busy happy hour, but a bit too small for evening events. They sometimes have a DJ on weekends, but there's really no dance floor. All in all, it's my favorite neighborhood bar for happy hour. read more
