I received a gift card here and knew I wanted a massage. I used to work in the spa/esthetics industry and haven't been able to get a good massage in some time. I've never been here so I wasn't sure how booked out they'd be but I called Saturday 9/14 and was able to get in the day I was hoping for, Tuesday 9/17. Everything was nice, the spa coordinators, the robes, the quiet room. But my massage was 10/10 amazing. Jennifer was so nice, good communication & incredibly talented. I told her I wanted to focus on relaxation and I wanted to keep my socks on cause my toes get cold. And she exceeded my expectations. I was in such a trance at the end of it, I wish I would have thanked her more. It was truly an amazing experience and felt like such a blessing to have got the best massage therapist. I had scheduled massages for my friend and I, I had surgery about 5 weeks ago and was released by my doctor to have massages and even start Pilates, and have already had a massage since surgery somewhere else, but they refused to give me a massage here since it hasn't been 6-8 weeks. I didn't know they had their medical license and that my doctors recommendations do not matter here. They didn't even apologize or even offer me any other service in its place. I feel that could have helped my frustration. First time here. Went with a girlfriend that have been here before and she told me this place does an amazing job! She made an appointment for both of us and we get to be by each other in the room. This place is so high class and the ambience is nice. I like that we have our own locker to put our personal stuff in and even set our own code!! So before we get started, they let us pick our essence smell. i pick the rosemary lavender. Then we put our stuff away and change into a nice dark robe with a very soft socks. They have a waiting room with drinks condiments and fruits, candies and oatmeals. Me and my girl just chillen, waiting for our girls to get us. The bathroom is very nice and clean. They have mouthwash, qtips, and flossers. How neat is that?? Then the massage girls came and i just can't wait for the experience. We got in the room and the girls give us instructions and ask if we have any problem area that needed extra TLC. Then the magic start. I got the 120min massage with scrub and clay on my body. it was very wonderful. I enjoy everything and the massage was amazing!! I will definitely come back again to enjoy this pampering. DO NOT GET A FACIAL FROM THIS PLACE. Debated writing this review because Veronica was really sweet, but it's been 5 days now and my face still looks like shit. I've attached photos of the huge red marks she's left on my face. I go there for massages & those are great, but NEVER get a facial from here. I have never had these issues from previous facials I've gotten elsewhere. She did more harm to my face than good, I'm going to have huge scars on my face from what she's done. First, I made an appointment for the 04/22/21 @ 2:15 PM which I made it a month in advance. Then the day of the 22nd one of the receptions called me while I was in class. Left a message saying that one of their employees had a medical emergency. That they were sorry, but we meaning my sister-in-law and myself would have to pick one or the other in Mani and Pedi. Also, would get a discount on the package deal that I order. Which was [The Relax] but that never happen. So, we get there, and we did the paperwork for what they needed, pick out the scent you wanted in the room. Which I thought we would be in the same room, but nope that didn't happen either. I had big thoughts about this Spa but sadly it fizzy out quickly. I paid $310.00 dollars for Two package for Relax and Two eyebrows waxing. I also tip the ladies that perform their serves to me and Destinee. Let's start this, I am a patience person when it comes to it, but my patience was wearing thin that day. Because I thought that this whole pampering package that I pick out was not going to take long. Again, I was wrong on that as well because I had more plan for that day. Which was delayed it and I had to plan accorded to what time was left. Also, I read most of the review from here that is why I pick Nu Essence Spa, for the birthday gift to my sister-in-law. Because I thought we would get offer waters, robes, socks and a private changing locker complementary from the receptionists, but no that didn't happen either. Destinee and I had our stuff with us the hold time. Their quiet room is massive in size, and the staff allow you to relax before and after services. But I was there, and I was in pain most of the time. We came there at 1:56 PM on 04/22/21 and we left at 5:25 pm almost 4 1/2 hours there. I cannot talk about Destinee time with her massage and facial as well as her getting her nails painted, I just know from the Pedi. For my experience was not stellar. My Message Therapist was nice, and we had a wonderful conversation. I also told her that I have Sciatica pain in my lower back. I thought, I don't know what I thought cause when it was all said and done, I had the searing pain shooting down my back and leg. I did give her a [$10.00 TIP] Next was the estheticians and she was nice and sweet but a little I don't know but something, I told her that I have sensitive skin, while she was asking me about my facial routine. When she was doing it after a little while I felt it burning or sting on my face. After facial was done, I was move to the next part of the package. Again [I TIP HER $10.00] Now the Last was the Nail technician I ask is it going to be fake Mani or Shellac and she told me just reg. fingernail polish. When she was done with my hands, we move to the Pedi part and that's when Destinee joins us. She got my pant legs soaked and that was not cool. Then she moves to Destinee feet and did hers. I also [TIP HER $15.00] The next day I started to notice the polish chipped on my fingernails, so I called my sister-in-law if hers was doing the same? So, on 24th I made a call to the Spa and wanted to speak to the manager that was on shifted that day. But the receptions told me that the manager was not there but will be here later that day. She asks me what the best phone number so that the manager can contact me. Before I hung up I explain everything to her over the phone. Her excuse was that some nail polish doesn't take to fingernails. So, I gave her my cell number and I also told her my name. I told her that I would have to go to a nail shop to get them professionally done and pay more money. But she was trying to get me to make a drive to the Spa, I told her that I live to far away for me to drive all the way there so it can happen again. So, I told her a few times take I would not be able to make it. Then she told me that they have an opening at 2:45 thru 4 PM and again I told her I cannot make that cause I live so far away. I hang up with her and I was expecting a call from the manager. So, I waited all day for the manager to call me. Never did, so today I made up my mind to post this to let people know what my experience was like. You can decide on what you want to go to this place or not go. I am not saying to not go but what I am saying is if you are a newbie like I was then do your do diligent on any Spa. Because I thought I was going to get "A+" serves but what I got was a best a "C" that me being nice. The ladies that I was in Contact with was good to talk too. I was scheduled for a 30 min deep tissue with cupping add on. i arrived at my appointment time not 15 prior with being a previous client. Not only did they not mention that paperwork "expires" without be a frequent client they also did not mention that no matter how long they take to call you back it will be subtracted from duration of appointment. i didn't get called back by therapist until 113p. Therapist spent time explaining cupping (3+ minutes), allowed unnecessary time for me to undress (4 minutes). Treatment did not start until 120p. I was done by 136p!!!! A 16 minute cupping session while my legs were rubbed down IS RIDICULOUS FOR $65. DO NOT GO HERE. your better off going anywhere else. When expressing my concerns to front desk and asking why it was not express to while i was waiting i would've rescheduled. What the Nu Essence Spa lacks in curb appeal it makes up for in service. Super comfortable process. I had a perfect massage with Sarah with the perfect amount of pressure and and the perfect amount of chatting. Very friendly place with sweet little add-ons like soft socks and choose-your-own aromatherapy scent. While the atmosphere is nice, I found the services to be sub par. I had the mini escape special, which included a mani or pedi, 30 minute body scrub and 30 minute massage. -The body scrub was mildly relaxing, but did not really exfoliate. -I told the masseuse that I had tension in my neck and shoulders. She spent the entire massage on my neck and upper back and I was still tense when she was finished. I have never had this problem before. -The pedi was the best of the three services and I left with nails cut at a slant. Awesome massages. I was looking for a place that would be similar to Wellbridge of Clayton (in St. Louis) and didn't think I would find something in Springfield.. but I was proved wrong! This place is a gem! The facility is clean, the masseuses are good and they are always running some special or another. My husband and myself visited Nu Essence Spa twice over the last two years while visiting family in MO . I live in SoCal and have visited a lot of Spa's on vacation and traveling , hotels , cruises, etc. and I have to say that the massage I got at Nu Essence was the best I've ever had , I really have to emphasize that normally I request a gentle massage , and that never happens so each time I say to myself, that's it ! My husband surprised me with a bamboo massage as a Christmas gift. The spa is decorated nicely and has nice amenities like personal changing rooms and a relaxation room with warm neck towels and coffee/tea. My Massage Therapist was Kina. She did an awesome job with my massage. I asked her for firm pressure and she delivered. I had never had a bamboo massage before. I really liked it. The therapist used smooth pieces of bamboo to roll out some of the knots in my back. If you like firm pressure, I would definitely recommend Kina and a bamboo massage. Pricing here is pretty much on-par with other spas in town, but I feel like you get more personal touches here. I'm looking forward to my next visit! read more

The massages I have had here have always been great! I would give that a 5! However, this last time I had a mani and pedi done as well. Unfortunately, the shellac on my nails came off within 3 days. I called up there just to let them know. They were so nice and offered to redo them. Again, unfortunately, they peeled off a second time within 3 days. With that being said...their customer service is pretty good. The massages are excellent. But I would not pay again for a manicure here. read more

The receptionist who checked us in with longish straight dark hair was very professional and welcoming. The receptionist who checked us out with mid length dark hair was not so helpful. While Nu Essence Spa offers dermaplaning, I question the qualifications of the esthetician. I had a horrible experience and hope no one else has to experience it. She suggested waxing on my upper lip and brow, and did dermaplaning on the rest of my face. The waxing ripped my skin off and then the products she used highly irritated my face. It was over a week before I was back to normal. This was definitely not the relaxing spa experience I had hoped for. Beware of this service, if you go there, I'll never go back. read more

From start to finish I felt comfortable, relaxed, and at home with all of the ladies here. My boyfriend and I did the couples retreat and it was one of the greatest experiences I've ever had. They made sure to tell you every step of the way what they were doing, and gave you the option at any point to change things if you weren't comfortable. The massage was amazing and the facial was so relaxing and gentle and smelled amazing! The ladies who did our pedicures were so fun and kind and made my boyfriend who had never had one before feel at ease with the whole thing. Amazing customer service! You get to change into a robe and fuzzy socks before your massage and choose the sent of your room and I love that! My boyfriend got me a gift card for a couples retreat and it was perfect. All the employees made us feel at ease and comfortable! They do get busy so make sure to schedule at least a week ahead. We called a couple days before and they were already booked so we didn't get the full couples retreat (massage, facial, and pedicure) because they didn't have enough time open for the pedicure! Terrible. I have been having lower back issues with my pregnancy. A girl friend of mine bought me a message from here as a gift to help with the pain. The girl giving my massage barely applied pressure. She was scared to touch me being pregnant. Which was very frustrating seeing as to how they new when booking why I was coming. I asked her to apply more and she said no. I could have gotten more pressure from my 7yr. Old The waiting area is nice and relaxing and the front staff were very friendly. Nu Essence Spa is absolutely the best spa in the Springfield area. As you walk in the front door the atmosphere is so calm and welcoming that you immediately start to relax. After check in you are directed to the back where you are given the most luxurious robe to put on and a very comfortable waiting area to relax in. They offer free water and amenities such as mouth wash. I received an hour massage by one of their best masseuse and by the time I left all the tension was completely gone from my body. read more

I have been needing to get a massage for a while and saw they had a deal going on--great! I called them on a Monday and got an appointment for that Wednesday. I also have Celiac Disease so I had to make sure their products were gluten free. They told me they had to check on it and would get back with me. On Tuesday they let me know the names of the products they would be using to make sure I could safely come in. When I got there on Wednesday, the ladies at the front desk and the therapists all knew to double check with me before starting to make sure the products were safe. I scheduled a massage for a treat after running a half marathon. I felt like I was in the lap of luxury from the beginning. The atmosphere is very calm and soothing and fulfilled my hopes of wanting to feel pampered. I got to choose my scent of oil for my massage - my room was scented with the same scent and the lights were dimmed to promote a soothing atmosphere. My massage therapist was Becca Sitz. She was perfect for the job - she applied just the right amount of pressure. We only exchanged a few words, allowing me to fully relax and enjoy my treat. When I was done, my aching muscles felt much better. I would definitely recommend this facility and Becca and hope to get to visit them again in the future. read more

Double booked Mother's Day Weekend... I have never written a review for a business but I decided to because of how poorly a situation was dealt with at my last visit. I had scheduled three pedicures for Mother's Day weekend about two weeks before because I assumed they would book up quickly due to it being Mother's Day weekend. I received a confirmation call the day before confirming all three appointments. When we arrived for our appointments we were told there was a double booking and that someone in my party would not be able to receive a pedicure. They offered to paint that person's toes and finger nails but they only had 15 minutes to paint them. I decided to not receive any treatment that day and let the other two members in my party receive their pedicures as scheduled. I could have painted my own nails and toe nails at home for free. The nail technicians seemed rushed and very stressed the entire time we were there. Instead of enjoying a relaxing pedicure with family over Mother's Day it was a very unpleasant stressful situation. This could have all been avoided if the spa had called to tell me they were overbooked. We would have gone some place else that could fit us all in. It still would have been upsetting but in advance we could have at least made other plans. Nu Essence had many chances to call to explain the situation. One...when they called the day before to confirm our appointments. Two...I called the day of our appointments with a question and nothing was mentioned about a problem. Lastly, our appointments were later in the day at 4:15 and 5:00 pm so they had plenty of time to call me to reschedule. In closing I am writing this review because before this situation I recommended Nu Essence to friends and family all the time. Now I will never go back there and I will not recommend them. This could have been avoided by training staff to call the customer if there is a booking error. I hope this doesn't happen to anyone else but sadly I'm sure it is not the last time. read more

I decided to try this spa as a treat to myself for my 55th birthday. I found it clean, quiet & friendly. Best massage I have had in years! When it came time to pay I received a new client discount on all four services! That was like receiving another gift!
