Returning to dance as an adult after growing up in the competitive dance world can be extremely intimidating. The studio culture at KRD is incredibly welcoming, and I have made lifelong friends while attending classes. The instruction at KRD can only be described as caring and artistic. The instructors have a deep respect for individual expression and growth. Encouragement is constant, and every class feels intentionally structured to challenge you while still being enjoyable. I always feel supported while taking class. Kelela Rose Dance has truly become a creative home for me, and I am so appreciative of the work done by Kelela and her staff to foster a warm and welcoming environment for dancers returning to the art as adults!

I personally love the energy they all have. The parents are amazing and supportive of all of the kids also. Kelela you have created such a positive, safe learning space for our kids. Thank you so so much! We will for ever be grateful. The teachers y'all! The teachers are first class, the kids love and respect them so much! They are so talented and genuinely care about every single kid. The pricing is competitive and honestly I don't mind at all because my kid is getting my moneys worth for sure. Give this studio a chance and see your kids grown not only in dance but in so many other good ways.

And the warm-ups and stretches we do every Mondays and Wednesdays always makes me ready to learn a new dance or record or dance that me and my group have been practicing for a few weeks. It's always fun to see new people come in and go, but the most important thing is that confident is key and if you don't have that confidence you won't have confidence in your dance. I've been going to this dance classes for three or four months and I've been loving it. I've been excited to go every day to learn something new or add more onto our dance. I can't wait to learn something new after we're done with this dance, but I just love the fact that they put effort to teaching us and making us smile and laugh every time we're there I love this educational center and I would recommend this if you're wanting to learn dance because they would make you feel welcome and comfortable even if you are new they will treat you the same that they treat the other students that's been going there I can't wait till next week to go back and see my dance teacher and my friends that make me laugh and smile and make me confident and make my dancing confident.

A few of her friends have joined too, and they all enjoy not only dancing together at the studio but also creating their own routines outside of class with the moves they've learned. One of the most exciting parts has been the performances. My daughter got to dance at the fair, and the studio is already preparing for a special Christmas event! These opportunities have boosted her confidence and made her love of dance grow even more. Miss Becca and Miss Bailey are so fun and encouraging, and Miss Marilyn, the owner, is truly special. she's compassionate, genuine, and patient with both the students and the parents. You can tell she pours her heart into this studio, and it really shows. We're even planning a private birthday event here for my daughter and about 20 of her friends, and she is absolutely thrilled. We're so grateful to have found this studio. It's more than just dance, it's a community. If you're looking for a studio where your child will grow, build friendships, perform at fun local events, and truly love learning, I can't recommend this one enough!

So whenever they practice for the recital my daughter was made to feel very left out. The instructor told my daughter that she can do stretches or do whatever she wanted or join the dance. Fact that the instructor pointed that out made my daughter felt like she didn't belong. Paying for the recital or not, every tuition paying dancer should be part of the routine. They have my credit card in their system and charge automatically every month which in the beginning we appreciated because we didn't have to remember to pay or wait for a bill and all that hassle. However, this academy not once sent out updates or announcements of any kind. I checked my spam/junk mail as well as regular mail. They say they do send email but we never got it. Suddenly tuition increased by $30 this month. Also we just found out there is an annual registration fee although there was no additional need for any type of "re-registration." They just simply charge it every July. The reason it's not a 1 star is because after the issue arises they refunded this month tuition smoothly as we decided to pull my daughter from this academy. And while there my daughter didn't mention other issues aside from feeling excluded from the Moana dance. We got quoted with another academy close by for our daughter where tuition is a lot more reasonable and she will be starting there soon.

I was sitting just outside the waiting room door the entire time. Instead of taking a few seconds to find me, the instructor allowed a stranger to take my child into a bathroom stall and begin undressing her. Let that sink in. When I confronted the instructor, her response was shocking: "I don't have time to look for parents." Excuse me? Your convenience does NOT come before my child's safety. This is not a minor issue, it's a major breach of trust and judgment. Handing a child to someone the parent has not approved to take them into a private space is completely unacceptable and potentially dangerous. I don't care if the person was "nice" or "helpful" you never, EVER do this. I stay for every class. The instructor knows that. In today's world, how can anyone think this is okay? What happened tonight could have ended very differently and that is terrifying. Parents, beware. If you value your child's safety, think twice before trusting this studio.

As with any group class, give yourself some space to try a few different teachers until you find the one(s) you enjoy the most! The owner, Shawn, and desk staff are friendly and helpful; always happy to answer questions about levels, styles, and instructors. My go to is Arianna Hyatt. She teaches well rounded true to level classes (read the class description and know thyself). She motivates and encourages dancers to meet their goals, whether that is fun, fitness, training for an audition, getting back to dance after a hiatus, or perhaps all of the above. She provides a supportive environment while offering technique, structure, and a little challenge - if that is what you're after. The community she's cultivated within every class is palpable. If you're a beginning/intermediate or advanced level dancer, looking for ballet, broadway, or tap, definitely check the schedule for her. (Double check the level as she teaches a variety.) If you're on the fence, I'd say find any class that interests you at the studio and give it a try!

She was not welcoming, was late to the class, and did not give me the chance to even try tapping before she completely ignored me for the entire class session. Long story long: I've had dance training with Broadway choreographers and performers (just not in tap), and never would they be so unprofessional and rude to a newer dancer. This was my first time trying Afterhours, I had gone with a friend (with prior tap experience and classes taken at this studio) and we booked two classes, back to back. Beg/int Broadway Jazz class straight into beg/int tap. Arianna, who instructed both classes this night, arrived late and complained about the studio space we were in. Yikes. Not a great first impression as a new dancer at this studio. After this class, I put my tap shoes on and my friend quickly walked me through some basics of tap. Just with a side-eye from the corner of the room, she came up to me and said "this is not the space for you, I will go get you your money back before you take this class. I will let you stay, but this is not the class for you." Understandable, but after SO GRACIOUSLY!!!! allowing me be in the room with only 5 other dancers, she ignored me the entire class, despite me catching onto and being able to pick up what she was teaching. She had condescendingly recommended another instructor at the studio, but with a tone as if the instructor was subordinate to her. The most frustrating part was that she was very slowly and deliberately helping another dancer in the room, who was also a beginner. It was rude to me and not conducive to a welcoming environment for growing artistry, whether I was refunded or not. I spoke with Shawn after the class and she mentioned knowing that Arianna is short with her words and they had a similar situation with another dancer last week. If you knew this hostile behavior is happening at your studio, how could you let that continue? She also gave an excuse of a disclaimer being on the description of the class. 1) it was hard to find 2) even if someone has/hasn't "mastered" a certain level of dance, why are you fully shutting someone out of your learning space? It is apparent in the class attendance the success, or lack of, rather, at this studio. I truly hope that no other dancer experiences what I did at Afterhours, and that this behavior from any instructor is corrected. I was given my money back and a free pass for another class at the studio, but I honestly do not trust either of those ladies that I dealt with at the establishment to recommend me any other class there.
