I went to my first class and I was instantly regretting my idea of learning something new. Luckily that changed because of Great instructors like Shirly. she is so cool and swaggy. x1000 aura points. Probably the best dance studio around. The culture at this studio is so great. Incredibly welcoming and encouraging. Everyone I take to class here loves it, especially my absolute beginner friends. Management and front desk are also awesome, and I feel like they set the tone in this lovely space. I've only started coming here for a couple months now, but it is the place I look forward to visiting every week! They also host very intimate and valuable workshops with amazing choreographers. It's been over a year since I've been back at this studio, so UPDATE!!! Since my last review, I took Heels with diff instructors. I really enjoyed this class as it's very different and challenging. It's just hard for me to do their late evening classes consistently. Maybe once summer is here then I'll be less tired and lazy since it won't get dark until later. It's sensual and sexy and fun! Cardio Dance with Shirley is so much fun. Nonstop dancing to catchy hip hop songs. You just move, there's no movement break down, but I feel it's easy enough to pick up. You can modify to your own preference, ie., jumping or no jumping, etc. Raggaeton Saturday mornings with Irene is awesome. Her energy is robust and music encompassing different beats hits the spot for me. Sexy plus strong movements. I look forward to her class & always leave feeling happy. I have friends that attend their other classes they offer and they really enjoy it. There's something for everyone. Just try and see what's your vibe and what makes you happy. read more

BEGINNGER FRIENDLY dance studio! I was so scared about coming to a dance class because I've essentially only done it once and when I went I felt extremely intimidated because seemed to know so much and were definitely not beginners. However! Not at S1! What I LOVE about this place is the atmosphere Shirley (the owner) has created. I felt so welcomed and there were definitely other beginners with me. That didn't matter! No one was judgmental and people were cheering each other on. Yes there are bigger or more "famous" and "popular" dance studios that I've also tried in the area, but this one continues to be my favorite. The classes range from beginner to advanced and sometimes even master class. I take hip hop and Kpop here. But they also offer salsa, Latin, funk, heels, jazz, and Reggaeton I think. Love the energy and atmosphere of this studio. I've only taken from David here and he is always so uplifting, fun, and motivating. Very great teacher for heels or choreography. You'll learn a lot, have fun, and learn FIRE choreography!! The only downside to this studio is that it fills up quickly and the max is small so if you don't book in advance you don't get to take on a regular basis. Unless you have and know a consistent schedule you will need to plan in advance and register for class well in advance because classes get booked/full fast. Other than that, highly recommend coming here. read more

Grew up as a dancer and haven't done it in over a decade but recently felt the urge to take it up again. Did some research for heels classes and found S1L. It has been so amazing being a part of their community! Love their instructors and the vibe. Every session is fun and I feel like I grow so much each time. S1L Studio is like my second home at this point! I started going almost a year ago for K-Pop Cover classes and have since started taking their Choreo and Cardio classes as well. All the instructors are fantastic, and Shirly, the owner (she also teaches the Thursday Cardio class, Grooves, and Heels), is awesome and very engaged in all aspects of the studio. She takes most of the classes as well, so you know she's booking the best instructors (the instructor roster switches up occasionally but is always soliddd)! Community Vibe: The community itself is super welcoming! Before I started, I was probably most nervous about what the other students would be like, but everyone is really nice and it really is a "no judgment zone." Most people are there just to have fun and learn, and instructors are generally good about adjusting the length of choreo or teaching speed to the level of the class. Classes: The class variety is great--they have different styles of choreo, from jazz funk (Maria and David Slaney), to hip hop (Robin and Harlie), Heels, Contemporary (Lyrical/Modern/Ballet), and Cardio Dance classes, among others. The studio is great about bringing in guest instructors, too! If you're just starting out in dance, I highly recommend taking Robin Ching's Beginner Choreography class on Mondays! His choreography is always a vibe, and he's really good at breaking down movements for first time dancers. Thursday Cardio with Shirly and Saturday morning Reggaeton/Latin Cardio are perfect if you just want to dance nonstop for 50-ish minutes and get your workout in! These classes tend to fill up pretty quickly, so book early! You can book up to 2 weeks in advance. :) Facilities: The studio itself is clean and well ventilated (the roll up door is kept open during classes), there is a bathroom and separate changing room with shelves to keep bags, and the studio has marked spots on the floor to ensure everyone has a decent amount of space during class. Plus, classes are capped at around 30 people to ensure everyone can see and have enough space to dance. There's a ton of parking available, too! This is absolutely my favorite dance studio, hands down, none can compare. I literally only started dancing and I've seen how much I improved. The vibe here is SO amazing and so supportive. Everyone is here to support each other in their own dance journey. Irvine is SO lucky to have such AMAZING instructors. Instructors that truly stand out to me are those that teach the kpop classes and ALEISHA as well and Sharon brings such an amazing natural vibe into the room that just brightens my day. I can tell that the dancing and the choreo and instructors are a whole level up compared to other dance studios and I've been to quite a few (not sure if instructors work in the industry) but the level of professionalism and instruction is something that really stood out to me. For beginners, I highly recommend the beginner choreo classes and/or beginner heels classes or the cardio dance class to learn rhythm because understanding rhythm and how your body moves takes time and patience. Every body is different meaning every dance move is going to look different on your body. I came in not knowing at all how to move my body but slowly gave myself grace, patience and time to learn what it means to understand beats, counts and what "marking" it means. I highly recommend looking at dance as a journey and we all start somewhere. Beginner classes are really great if you're starting at ground zero and once you develop that rhythm and understanding of your body, I highly recommend trying out the other genres this studio has (I love the kpop classes). I will admit my first kpop classes I was blown away bc that genre of dance is multiple moves in a beat, but I love the challenge of it. I also love the fact that every video is uploaded for us to post on insta! It's just such a good way to reflect where you were at the beginning and where you are now. The energy and the people here are what makes it amazing. It's amazing to see people here come together and create a piece at the end. I highly recommend this studio! read more

this studio is amazing! I have zero dance experience and was very nervous attending my first class but everyone from the staff, the students, and the instructors have been nothing but encouraging and welcoming. It's a judgement free zone and people always high five and cheer each other on and after attending multiple times now I've gotten more comfortable dancing and really look forward to coming here. They also post videos of the class via a Dropbox link on their Instagram stories at the end of the day to rewatch and practice at home again. The owner, Shirly, also designs and sells merch with unique drops each season and I've seen people in the studio wear different merch designs they've collected over time so the sense of community is strong. My favorite classes have been the beginner choreography classes with Robin on Mondays and hip hop classes with Ashley on Tuesdays. read more

I've been to many dance studios in the last decade or so, but S1L is the first studio I ever found myself feeling comfortable to dance in. Shirly, the owner, is always looking out for the students that take class and she brings the best instructors to her team! My favorite classes have been with David Slaney for his Wed night beginner heels or his Fri night choreo classes. The people who take class are friendly as well and make sure to cheer each other on, and the environment feels less intimidating than other studios I've been to in the area. I also appreciate that the studio takes covid seriously and you're required to wear a mask during all of class with marked spots on the dance floor to space ourselves. LOVE!!! I went to K-Pop Dance cover class with Jamie today. I have no dancing experience or BTS or Army or whatever. But this class is super chill and fun. You will sweat, not much but enough to feel the heat. I walked out feeling refreshed and energetic. The only downside is that the parking is a bit dark. But it's not a big deal cuz there will be other people coming to class around the same time. Overall, highly recommend! read more

I love this place! I've been looking for an adult dance studio that would fit my needs. I have 2 kids, exercise about 5 times a week and carpool around town all day, every day. I needed something that would feed me soul! Well, Soul1 has done that for me. I love Ruxup! I love Shirley and Marylous Saturday morning cardio hip hop and I freaking love Irene's Reggaeton. It's such a chill environment. When you walk in to the studio, people are friendly and happy. Easy check in process. Towels, water, clean bathrooms. The sound system is fantastic! You can feel the music penetrating your body. There are all levels of dancers. I love hearing how people are feeling happy and exercising at the same time. This has been a key to my exercise routine. I been looking for a studio to go dance for 4 years, cuz I'm fashion major, sitting in classes all day and drawing killing my back and my body. I go to downtown LA for school and of course after school I just wanna go home and rest. So I don't really have a change to go dance until I found Soul1 Studio on Yelp this year. I looked up online, did all the research and even did some stalking over Instagram and yes as an art student but was born in a business family so I wanted to make sure my money worthy!!! TO WHOEVER READ MY REVIEW, THIS IS WHY I GAVE SOUL1 5 1) The design of the studio. Soul1 is on another level, white wall, lighting is everything, sound systems, super clean and smell super refresh like in a fancy hotel (I have to say fancy becuz regular hotel also smell nothing). Yes I checked all the detail and experienced myself. Plus, the studio also has a huge garage door which can be opened during class so the air can come in and give you more fresh air. 2) The instructors. The owner (Shirly! my super favorite person on earth ) already had a good taste in design, so I have no doubt about her. Shirly teach her cardio class which I never last for 30' because it's really cardio, so if you want burn calories and stay fit, go for Shirly class!!!! She always works hard to bring all the best instructors to teach in the studio, to give her customer opportunity to experience all the dance style. I said the best instructors because, in the dance industry, there are thousands dancers out there, but what make them stand out is their style, their vibe and how they communicate with their student! 3) The Service! Soul1 is the only studio knowing how to do service and take care of their customers! If you have any questions, just send a message, your questions will be answered right away! So just ask! As I already mentioned about how clean the studio is, here also another example of how good service is, the restroom is clean at all time too 4) The community I came here knowing no one, Soul1 did an amazing job by creating a friendly environment. Soul1 is the hippest and coolest dance Studio around and I'm so glad to be part of it. Never in million years I thought I'll be going to a "dance" studio but now I can't stop!! lol. Burning 700+calories a class while having a BLAST doing it~~ (They also have sculpt/bootcamp type of classes as well) For those who never been to a dance class, don't be afraid!! ZERO judgment here. No one cares if you mess up or move in complete opposite direction than the rest of the class! Just keep moving to your own beat and have fun! I tell you, this is the best stress reliever for me and I look forward to it every week~ The owner and ALL the instructors are simple amazing at this place. If you're contemplating taking dance classes, come dance at S1L!!! I've been dancing at S1L for a year now and it's my second home. The studio is always extremely clean and has such good vibes. I love the aesthetic and layout of the studio, and having the big garage door open during class creates such great airflow. All the dance instructors are so talented, friendly, fun, and patient. There are many beginner friendly classes to try as well as challenging classes if you're looking to push yourself! I'm so thankful for Soul1! I had been burned out on working out for months, and the instructors and classes at Soul1 have me motivated and excited again! Shirly, the owner, and all the instructors are super nice and friendly, and the instructors are top notch (I'm extremely picky about instructors too). The studio is brand new, clean, and has a great layout - long and narrow which allows everyone in class to see themselves (and their form) in the mirror and see the instructor. I love Ruckus' Ruxup and sculpt class, Ashley's Hip Hop 8 and cardio hip hop taught my Marylou, Shirly, Jaime and Lisa. The classes are a great workout and super fun (with great music too). And it's for all levels. It's hard for me to "ditch" the gym when there is literally a great class every night. I'm excited to see what other classes will be added in the future. Come try a class! If you're a fan of K-pop then you'll definitely want to take Jamie's K-pop fitness classes. Whether you want to burn calories while listening to your favorite kpop groups or learn actual choreography form the most popular kpop groups and singers, the kpop chore classes are a MUST do! If you are looking for a work out that releases all your stress and makes you feel good about yourself and forget about doing dishes, laundry, kids, blah blah, house stuff, work out at Soul Core! Especially RuxUp class and hip hip cardio and their dance workout classes!!!! I burn 400 calories in their dance workout classes! So I don't feel bad about eating chocolate chip cookies.. hehehe They have variety of classes to take and affordable. I love all the instructors and especially the owner, Shirley. I've taken her Cardio Dance class and it's such a sweaty good time! I also take Heels with Lexi and Zarina and they are both incredible teachers and break everything down very well so that it's easy to understand. I only write reviews for exceptional businesses and customer service. I attended Ashley's Hip Hop 8 tonight and I immediately signed up for 10 more classes. Ashley has such an awesome energy and makes the class the funnest learning experience. Everyone had such a great time and of course there's a range of levels present, but it almost doesn't matter because the class is ridiculously fun. You definitely learn a lot and Ashley is very attentive and responsive to each student and their questions. She made me feel instantly comfortable for my first class and it was easy to let loose, even though I initially felt self-conscious. Ashley is not a pusher, but she will challenge the class when she gauges that the group look like they're ready to step it up. It's always difficult for an instructor to teach a group with varying levels of experience, but Ashley does a great job with that. That's one of the best indicators of a good instructor. The group also were also very sweet and easy to talk to. The owner of Soul Core is also amazingly sweet and opened the studio because she loves dance herself and believes in the benefits of various dances and overall fitness. I've been working out since I was very young, and literally have tried everything possible from ballet to pilates reformer to straight up kickboxing. I settled on running and weight training for years because I couldn't find a place that offered group exercise classes that I liked enough to pay for. Then I came across Soul1, and immediately fell in love. They combine all of my favorite exercises taught by qualified instructors who offer fun, exciting fitness classes with music that are a great mixture of different kinds of genre including kpop which is among my favorite. Edit: had to take my review down to 1 star. Without warning, there was a schedule change and two of my favorite instructors are gone (Joisa and Ana). Ruckus and Ashley are still there and are great but not enough to meet all my fitness needs. (Only 2 days /week and the new class times weren't convenient for me). Since there was no notice of these changes, management did refund my money for the remaining classes I purchased in advance. I was excited for the opening of this studio because I have taken Joisa's classes at other locations, and she had always been one of my favorite instructors. Her classes are energetic, upbeat, and physically vigorous, but so fun they seem to pass too quickly. I purchased a class pack, but i realized I'm going to burn through it in no time, because ALL the instructors are AMAZING. Seriously. Joisa's hip hop cardio and kickboxing classes are a favorite, as are Ruckus' dance fitness and Ashley's hip hop 8. I'm looking forward to trying the others as well. There are a variety of classes - hip hop cardio, kickboxing, pilates, sculpt (weights), stretch sculpt, and reggaeton fusion. The studio itself is very nice any clean. I particularly like that it's a long, narrow room, with a wall of mirrors. There is room for about 3 long rows. That means that even if the class is completely full,you will have a clear view of the instructor.
