We went to the Atomic ballroom as a triple date, and took one of their beginner ballroom dance classes. We were welcomed by one of the long term instructors as we waited who was very friendly. During the class, our teacher was kind and walked us through the steps with ease. They had social dancing after the class and while the rest of our group left, my husband was willing to stay and try it out. Their ballroom social dances call out the appropriate style for each song, but we really only knew one or two. Our instructor was so kind to come over to us multiple times to give us some help learning the basic step for an additional 2-3 styles so we could get out on the dance floor more times! We don't live super close but I'm looking forward to returning when we get a chance. read more

I came here for the first time this weekend and got to try their salsa 1 class. This ballroom is located in a business plaza. From the outside, it looks really small, but once you enter, it's almost like the whole place transform into a much larger space! We arrived a bit early and got to watch some of the people from the previous class swing dance. It was really cool seeing everyone dance and they were all so good! For my salsa class, the two instructors were really good and helpful! I was a little worried that I wouldn't get it, but I think at the end of the day, I had a lot of fun learning in the 45 minute class and really enjoyed it. I will say, it does get quite hot in there. I did see that they have country nights/line dancing classes so I'd definitely be interested in coming back to try those classes. read more

Poor experience with Shesha M. in tango class. He never smiled, and showed arrogance - his facial expressions were hostile. He repeatedly raised his voice, said he couldn't understand my English (despite my MBA from a top university, years at a FAANG company and everyone else understanding me). He gave no clear corrections, ignored my questions about which steps were missed after yelling at me for missing them. When I asked if I was right or wrong, he didn't answer directcly but said loudly "You need to look at his button!". He has no teaching partner, making demos hard to follow. Friends who witnessed this found it concerning and I felt uncomfortable and that my time and money were wasted. Professional instruction requires respectful, clear communication. read more

I was looking for a room for a group private lesson (about 10-12 people) and had hard time to find a studio that does rental and fit in our budget and schedule and finally found this one. They have different size rooms on their website, so I think room B1 would be ok since it said it could fit up to 30 people. For booking a room, you need to create an account on their website and also call to talk to the reception to confirm. I was also asking if we could go in 10-15 mins earlier before our time to set up and warm up and the front desk said no bc they would charge us 15 additional mins. So I told her never mind! The room was much smaller than what I expected and part of the room on the side had no mirror and I don't know if people could see what they are doing or what the instructor is doing. The description of the room saying can fit up to 30 people is misleading. Bc even with half of the people, it's still feeling small. No way 30 people can be dancing Comfortably all together at the same time in same room. read more

I've been coming to Atomic on Friday nights for the salsa/bachata party for about a year a half. - Party starts at 8:30, most of the other dance parties start at 10pm - Latin music is pretty varied (SIRI, play salsa and bachata lol) - Swing room looks very fun, not really sexy enough for me, but great if you are an adult not interested in sex, dance salsa/bachata or other Caribbean-African styles if you want vertical sex - Place is super safe and clean, you won't get assaulted, it's Irvine Dislikes: - Vibe seems a little too sterile/sexless/childish for a place designed for adults - Classes are weak sauce: They don't want you to get better at dancing/relationships/being genuinely sexy or you might find someone to hang out with you in bed for free and than spend less money on private lessons :/ So guys, take some of their GROUP CLASSES to meet sexy people and build your confidence and then find some adult interested in going home with you for more. Don't get sucked into the forever-sexless dance class money trap they set up for you. Also, go to other dance parties not run by Atomic, don't join their cult lol don't let anyone own you like that. The Princess and I have not been to Dance School Ballroom for over 4 years. We used to dance when we lived on the East Coast at a few places like this, but smaller (almost everything on the East Coast, except for the City is smaller). For $20.00, we had a warm up session and two group lessons. The first was really basic and the second was for people that had an idea of of the dance (West Coast Swing). The second lesson had at least 50 students. The Princess, a much better dancer, took the second lesson, I sat out. The Teacher was pretty good. The DJ picked very good music. The School was well organized, and due to the physical contact required for dancing, had a rational approach to Covid Safety. By the time you see this review, the restrictions may be dropped. If you want to really social dance, this is good place. Will go back to regain my meager dance skills. read more

I just took a fitness class with Lauren and I wish I would have found this before my wedding because I would have enjoyed getting in shape with her workout! She has the right music and exercises that go to the beat and makes it really fun. Every part of the body will burn like crazy but it's so satisfying and brings a huge sense of accomplishment. First time here and had an awesome time swing dancing! I attended the open dance in Friday night, went in without knowing anything. Highly recommend taking a beginner class before going to an open night since most of the people had the basic steps. The dance studio has three rooms, AC is not the best so ideal attire would be short sleeve. There's plenty of parking but it was very packed for the open dance night, luckily I was able to swipe a spot right in front of the studio. Although I was a beginner, the people I danced with were so kind and went through the basic steps with me. You are constantly changing partners, so it's a great way to meet new people. Brian at Atomic Ballroom choreographed our first dance for our wedding. We asked for a waltz and played the song we chose. It turned out it wasn't in waltz time- it was a Viennese waltz- which is WAY more difficult for non dancers like myself and my now husband. Brian had the patience and skill to teach two beginners first how to dance, then how to do the Viennese waltz, and then teach us our choreography over the course of 9 months. My former fiancé (now husband) and I were searching for a studio for dance lessons geared towards beginners. We both had no experience dancing, but still wanted a beautiful choreographed dance to perform at for our wedding reception. It was clear - if we wanted to waltz at our wedding, we needed private lessons. We scheduled an appointment with Adam, and I honestly don't know if we could have found a better instructor. Being relatively proactive, we signed up for dance lessons 3 months before the wedding -- and we met with him roughly 1-2 times a week. In that time, Adam taught us basic steps and choreographed a beautiful dance that initially seemed beyond our skills. Instead of getting frustrated when we had issues with our technique, he would patiently address our problems and help us develop new habits. Adam was so positive and supportive, which made us eager to practice whenever we had the chance. With Adam's expertise and encouragement, two extremely clumsy beginners were able to gracefully perform his choreographed dance at our wedding. I felt so incredibly proud, and my friends and family were impressed. I didn't think I had it in me, but it turns out, with the right kind of guidance and a whole lot of practice, even a two left footed girl like me has the potential for the waltz! I can't thank Adam enough for all his help leading up to the wedding. If you're reading this, I want you to know that Alan and I thoroughly enjoyed our time with you, and we couldn't be happier with the waltz at the wedding. I like Atomic for their swing dancing and blues since those tend to have more poppy music during their dances, compared to more traditional stuff like ballroom or lindy hop, which are good in their own way too. I tried all the classes with their intro week deal, where you can go to any number of classes for free for an entire week before I settled on swing, and then blues after a friend recommended I try something new. People here are friendly but won't bother you unless they're curious - aka "pretty chill" :) Speaking for swing on Tuesday and Thursdays: the instructors are always awesome - Ben or Josh but the dance on Thursdays makes the class worth it, unless you're an absolute beginner who doesn't want to try the dance floor. Most people who come on swing are pretty good though, and mostly friendly if you know the basics and wanna try your moves on the floor. Lindy hop has a dance on Fridays that's super packed and a younger crowd than west coast swing (WCS). However, they only play lindy hop music, as opposed to WCS playing modern pop and old school classics. Lindy hop gets the floor packed on Fridays though, as in the entire main floor is literally covered with dancers! If you're looking to try dance in Irvine, Atomic is a great place to start! read more

Atomic Ballroom is the best place of its kind. It's greay for dance lessons and open social dancing. I got the monthly membership and came almost every day for a month. I just moved to the Bay Area and there doesn't seem to be any place that has everything like Atomic Ballroom does. They have all kinds of Latin, swing, and ballroom dancing. They have regular classes every week night at a variety of skill levels. And they have open dancing evey night. The regular teachers are all great. I especially liked William, Corey, and Ben. The downsides are minor enough that I still want to give 5 stars. It feels like there is a huge gap between beginner and immediate classes so I wish they had even more beginner/immediate classes. Also, it's surprisingly often that first timers come to the beginner/immediate or even immediate classes. I don't know the best way to remedy that; I imagine it'd be awkward to ask someone to sit out for a class they've already paid for. And for an even smaller nitpick, they sometimes have substitute teachers for the series classes so it ends up not being a series class. The open dances in the evening are a bit intimidating because the skill level is extremely high. But everyone is really nice and it's a very welcoming place. read more

I still say I'm a beginner to dance and it's always an apprehensive affair when I attend a social dance. However, the folks who run the Friday night dance here are nothing but congenial and cordial, very welcoming my first time here. As mentioned, I went on Friday - they have 3 rooms open. East Coast Swing/Lindy Hop on the main floor, Blues upstairs in one room, and a Tango practica in another upstairs room. The Swing room has a decent floor and plenty of seating around the floor to watch or mingle. The Blues room is smaller and intimate, fitting of this dance style, although it was a little too dark for me. Didn't get a chance to check out the Tango room. Near the entrance you can buy refreshments to cool you down. Great music, great dancing. Will come back when in town! read more

My only concern is that glasses tend to feel a bit rushed - an hour isn't a long time, but back-to-back-to-back classes mean that groups can be a bit rushed to leave just when things get into a natural rhythm (pun intended).
