I was recommended to their Salsa classes by a friend as my husband and I wanted to have some fun as a date night (especially as new parents wanting some time out). Purchases the tickets online for 03/30 for the beginner class at 4:30pm (which worked perfect for us! As we got a babysitter and didn't want to stay for the night dance) and was super excited for the class. We showed up to Sevilla in Costa Mesa about 30 mins before and was told the event was pushed to 5:30pm, (odd since we didn't receive any updates on the event saying it got pushed) but still not too bad so we decided go waited the hr. Got back at 5:30pm and was told it would be until 6:00pm. (Okay, again no communication the event was being pushed later) We were a bit frustrated at this point as we were already waiting for about 1 1/2. By 6:00pm the other event was still going on and it seemed it was going to continue to get pushed backed. We decided to leave and see if we can get a refund, the server informed us to contact the organizer as it was through them that the event got organized. I Messaged them that same day for a refund and again 1 week later. It is now 04/24 and I still have not heard from them. Pretty disappointed with my experience with the organizer & the lack of updates on their events. As I would of planned accordingly if any communications were sent to us in advance about it being postponed to a later time. read more

Went to a free salsa class+open dancing last night and had a blast~ Highly recommend for any beginner salsa dancers. The event is from 6-10 PM every 1st Saturday of the month on 4th and Spurgeon Street. The first hour is a lesson, and the rest is open social dancing. There were around 40-50 people, so you'll definitely be bumping into people while dancing. There is a parking structure right across the street, free for the first 2 hours. The host was humorous and animated, went through the dance steps thoroughly with slow paced Salsa music. The atmosphere is lively with music from the speakers. I first went to a Cielo event back in August 2021, at Legacy Nightclub in Newport Beach. At the time, I had essentially zero dance experience: I had taken a West coast swing class in 2012, and a few choreo classes here and there, but I was very much not a dancer. Fast forward 9 months later, and I'm addicted to bachata and salsa. I went from no dancing to going to socials 3-4x a week. That initial night at Legacy was one of the best decisions I've made in my life: I found a new hobby I love and met so many great people. Back in July, I decided to finally focus on learning Salsa after taking group classes on and off that did not help me in social dancing. The group classes were just not enough to learn and remember the different moves, and I was at the mercy of the dance instructors to learn what they wanted to teach. Now, since taking private salsa classes with Luis for about 4 months, I have learned enough to dance a complete song with confidence and without repeating many dance moves, and these are moves that I like! During our weekly lesson, he notices the small details that make a difference when dancing, things I don't even realize I'm doing. He's taught me great moves from his arsenal and moves I requested after watching other dancers. Not only have I learned during his lessons, which are accompanied by one of his group's female dancers, but also during the social dance opportunities he shares. My goal is to learn enough dance moves to complete about two songs, with style of course, by year's end. I have known Luis for 15 years. I remember I was in a beginner salsa Class with Alma Frey and her brother Jorge, when Luis first showed up to learn salsa in the beginner class....I also remember he came, went from beginner class, intermediate, then advanced and I was still in Beginner. Anyway I ended up hiring Luis to Choreograph a wedding dance for my now ex-wife and myself and seeing how both of us were white and I had the bright idea of doing a Bachata he did a phenomenal job! He was patient, kind, well-versed, very knowledgeable, and did the best anybody could under the circumstances!! Currently Luis and his events are finally getting the recognition he deserves.
