I have known Luis for 15 years. I remember I was in a beginner salsa Class with Alma Frey and her brother Jorge, when Luis first showed up to learn salsa in the beginner class....I also remember he came, went from beginner class, intermediate, then advanced and I was still in Beginner. So for that I'm not a fan, turns out it was me but he did not have to be such a show off! Anyway I ended up hiring Luis to Choreograph a wedding dance for my now ex-wife and myself and seeing how both of us were white and I had the bright idea of doing a Bachata he did a phenomenal job! He was patient, kind, well-versed, very knowledgeable, and did the best anybody could under the circumstances!! Currently Luis and his events are finally getting the recognition he deserves. He's been at it for sometime, during his time he has always been working very very hard providing an environment for anybody to come and dance, male or female, beginner or advanced, and they have the opportunity to learn, meet people, and develop their skills, to one day be an amazing dancer. For me it was the hardest thing I've ever had to learn however it's also the best thing I have ever done for my self and I cherish it! I have been taking lessons with Luis for about 5 months and I feel like I have markedly improved. While in most group classes the instructor just gives you a pattern, Luis goes around and watches and gives tips on how to do the patterns better. 6 months ago, I had practically zero dancing experience. I decided it was time for me to stop being a wallflower, and get out there on the dance floor. I started out by taking Luis's group classes at a local venue. Since that time, I have continued taking group classes, as well as private lessons with Luis for both salsa and bachata. Luis is a great instructor with lots of patience! First off, I was a complete beginner, second off I'm white- needless to say I didn't always pick things up on the first try. But Luis has really helped me become a competent dancer. Of course after six months, I'm no Fred Astaire, but I'm at the point where I feel comfortable asking girls to dance knowing I'll be able to give them a good dance and have fun with it. He is great at explaining how to *lead* certain moves, so even with a beginner girl she can still follow. If he can do this for an uncoordinated white boy like me, he can do it for you. Luis is an AMAZING dance instructor who is PASSIONATE about his craft. After taking private lessons from him, I feel a lot more confident in my dancing abilities. During the Bachata lessons, he showed mehow to be a good follower instead of simply teaching me combination steps. This has helped me improve not only in Bachata but my Salsa dancing as well. Luis would teach us partnering techniques and he took the new skills we learned and incorporated it into a routine. What an amazing, talented, and patient teacher! Luis spruced up a bachata dance routine with in a 24hr notice for our wedding. We literally had 5 days to learn a routine in which we were to surprise our guests. As novice dancers, Luis broke up steps into small parts in which were easy to follow. He made himself available for private lessons on such short notice, and pieced together an edited version of the song we danced to. His private lessons were reasonably priced too!
