We stopped by here twice on our weekend here and the sausages were so yummy! i love the self service, it makes it so easy to come in and grab lunch really quickly and continuing on your way. Before leaving, i purchased 2 sets of wings, a bunch of brats and some polish sausages. pricing is pretty good (especially for the cooked sausages) but it definitely adds up when buying the frozen items. The feels are like a homestyle store front where the employees really get to know their customers. Overall, you have to come here if you're in Alpena!!!! read more

Coming from out of town I knew I had to check out a local place like this and it didn't disappoint. Walking in I had no idea how ordering worked and when I saw a family in front of me getting their order, I'm just glad I could follow what they were doing lol. They have 6 types of sausages for the picking and they're: Festival Classic Potato Spicy Cajun Sauerkraut Cheddarwurst Beer Brat Not sure if they rotate the flavors though. Anyways, picked a bun and a Festival Sausage (From what it tasted like, it was bell peppers infused. Next up they had a topping station and it was all the condiments you could think of putting on a hot dog. I specifically got this Corn Relish and it was dreamy, the sweet snap of the corn with the hint of relished veggies .(Highly recommend) At the end of the counter is where you'll pay and it's simple as that. The whole process reminded me of chipotle but a self serve version and with hot dogs. There's also an ice cream shop adjacent to the counter and if you're feeling sweet after a savory hot dog, then it's the perfect place for salty and sweet lovers. read more

Nowicki's makes sausage and hunters sticks and sells them in this store. They have a good variety of sausage and sticks available and will also ship them out to you. The front of the building has refrigerators with the available meats in them and also a small lunch counter where you can have a sausage w/bun and toppings for $4.00. In the back end there is a banquet room to eat in. They also serve ice cream in the lunch room. The staff is very friendly and the sausages are delicious. The jalapeño cheese sticks are really good, spicy but not too hot. Give them a try next time in Alpena, you won't regret it. The building looks to be from the old lumbering days of yore. They also have locations in Roger's City and Gaylord. Recommended. read more

It's December 2025 and I Just discovered Nowicki's! Been driving past it for years and only saw it as a big old building. Well, I was so wrong! It's a 6th generation sausage shop that serves food too. And they're still making homemade sausages! I've never had a better brat in a bun! This is a MUST TRY for anyone who's hungry. True olde world seasoning with no gluten and no MSG. They even have a food truck for catered events. read more

We stopped by here last summer on our trip from Oregon. We bought 4 different varieties and each and every one was great!! I do believe that the cheddar brawt was our favorite! Thank you so much! read more

The brats in the 'warmer' are often cold. Like inedible cold. We threw the last ones away and won't be back.

Hands down the best sausage and meats shop. All freshly made and top quality. Great service on anything you need. The smoked chicken wings are vacuum, packed, and ready for your freezer. Just warm and serve they are absolutely delicious. They are worth the trip themselves and they always have freshly made brats with multiple choices cooked and ready to go. It's all good. read more

A++++++++ Best brats I've ever had! Great selection. Love to visit here when in Alpena. read more

I have been eating their products for over 65 years, Phil does a great job! Rember when they first started in Rogers City with the fantastic sausage business and also making the longest Kielbasa in the world! Jack G, formerly from Rogers City, now in St Petersburg Florida read more

My husband and I tasted brats from Nowicki's Sausage Shop when we went to a craft show in Warren, MI and all I can say is wow they are good! We bought several flavors and froze them. My favorite is the Potato Cheddar. My husband loves the Hawaiian. I have a Johnsonville Brat cooker and it's sooo easy to make them! They have other products too like bacon, ribs, fresh kielbasa ect. that we plan on buying in the future. I highly recommend them! Also you can order online for those like me who don't live anywhere near Alpena. read more

Absolutely on point for a sausage shop. So many choices of not just sausages but pickled items, etc. Looks like they are working to gather (or have been working) the lunch crowd. Several large roasters were in use while we were there and people filtering in to grab a bite. I picked up a package of Polish sausage to try for dinner and it was so good. Browned with some caramelized peppers and onions? Oh yeah. Just delicious flavor and great snap with the casing. Prior to leaving for Indiana we stopped and bought another $50 worth of meats for the freezer. Had some last night and reminded me I forgot to review! The sausages are vacuum sealed and ready for the freezer. Brown and serve. We will certainly return next time in Alpena to restock the freezer and try some different meats. read more

My partner and I were driving around exploring the area when we stumbled across this place. My partner loves German food so we figured why not. The layout is self-serve and the super friendly (and handsome) gentleman at the counter, Jason, was full of recommendations about about the sausages and condiments available. The dining room is small but clean and cozy. I'm not a huge bratwurst fan but the Cuban brat is BOMB. I enjoyed it so much I felt the need to high five my new pal Jason for giving such a good recommendation. He was also full of knowledge about the cool old building and the other products they sell. It was such an awesome experience that we'll definitely be back! read more

Nowicki's Sausage Shoppe - Cuban brat with mustard. So. Damn. Good. - Meat Shops Near Me - Alpena, Michigan

WOW!!! If you're looking for some GREAT tasting Open Face Sausage sandwiches, look not further. This little Gem is located in an Historic German Dance Hall which is kind of ironic since these sausages are the best I have had since i was stationed in Germany!!! Highly recommend their Jalapeño & Cheddar Brat!!! This one is PACKED FULL of flavor!! I also tried their Smoked Jalapeño Cheddar Brat which isn't as spicy and had just the right amount of smoke flavor and spices to make you want to come back for more!!! If you want a quick Brat for lunch or early dinner, this is the place to come! read more

We were very disappointed in the Kiszka we purchased from Nowicki's Sausage Shoppe. The only thing that was similar to actual kiszka was that it contained barley. It was not a blood sausage and it contained more offal (snouts, skin, cartilage, etc.) than it did meat. It was a waste of almost $40 (2 rings with shipping). Nowicki's solicited a review from me, which I supplied, but they never posted it. I guess they don't want anyone to think they have dissatisfied customers! If I could give Zero Stars I would! read more

Fantastic find. Local made sausage. Serve yourself Pick your sausage and add chips and a local drink if you like. Dine outside or inside. It was our first time here and customer in front of us bought our lunch! Guy working the counter couldn't be friendlier. Definitely a must stop in alpena read more

Nowicki's Sausage Shoppe - a picnic table outside - Meat Shops Near Me - Alpena, Michigan

Okay - it's not a restaurant. Really, and that's OK. It's a sausage-fest (dirty pun NOT fully intended - sorry!) Home-made brats that are VERY tasty. No real sit-down-serve type arrangement - it's like a gigantic wiener wagon. But good! There are daily special brats, mettwurst, and other on-site made local yummies with a Tyrolean/Polish flavor (insert favorite Blitzkrieg joke here.) Basically, plan to stop in for lunch, eat outside (if the weather is clement), or in their small set aside area (if it isn't.) Don't miss their Landjaeger (basically summer sausage), which is also quite delicious. You can also get a "Home of the World's Longest Sausage" tee shirt here, too. How could it miss??? read more

Holy crap, the best i ever had, you literally can't go wrong with anything you chose. Though the cheddar jalapeno are my fav. read more

Best brats ever. Discovered them at the Showplace in Novi. Everything we've tried is excellent. Their brats aren't just food, they're a treat. We also order online as we are in Novi and they're in Alpena. read more

Nowicki's sausage is such a great brat & sausage shop!!! Everything I have ever tried from them has been delicious!!! Very friendly and helpful at their store front in old town Alpena on 2nd street, I ended up buying quite a bit of brats and landjager. Great on the grill (that's my reccommendation) and good for parties of all kinds. Nowicki's is a must stop when in Alpena, MI!!! read more

We love to come here for lunch every time we vacation in the area. We always buy a couple packs to take home. We try something different each time. Always our favorite, the cherry potato brats, come home with us. Very friendly staff! read more

NEED MORE STARS!!!! I've been coming up to Alpena for a couple of years and can't believe I missed this place. Definitely a must!

Great brats and faster than all the typical fast food chains. Quality and value. It's worth the stop

We ordered 24 brats for a large party. The 45th beer brats were cooked by the shop in beer so I could brown them over charcoal and serve...easy. They came out flavorful, but not hot spicy, and got good reviews from all the guests. I'll be back. read more

Amazing sausages. Prices are *very* reasonable, especially for the high quality, small shop fare they're selling. Their habanero pickled sausage is my favorite. Brats are hands-down the best I've had. Nowicki's has an unreal selection for your lunchbox. read more

As Larry David would say pretty pretty good. My wife had polish sausage and I had the cheddar and pepper brat. Very cool place I never would have found without yelp. You have to go down quite a ways on 2nd ave. I almost gave up then there it was. We both loved our simple yet delicious lunch. Highly recommend. read more

Phenomenally outstanding food, great service. I love it! I would absolutely recommend it to anybody

I really wish Nowicki's had a downtown spot. They're not that far out, but if they were right downtown near Lau's or over near Cabin Creek, thus place would explode in popularity. LOVE my Mushroom & Swiss brats!!! If you haven't been here, GO. NOW! read more

Definitely the hidden jewel of Alpena! This place has phenomenal brats and Landjäger. I buy there stuff even for birthday, Christmas, and anniversary gifts for my boyfriend who lives 4 hours away. I wish they had more merchandise so I could represent them wherever I go! :) read more

Can't go wrong by stopping here. Any kind of brat you can imagine. The everything and Reuben where delicious! Stop by when in Alpena for some fantastic food! read more

Absolutely a must visit. Nowicki's makes the BEST sausage and brats. Also, the Thunder Bay Sausage and the Potato Burgers are really, really good too! Best thing about relocating to Northern MI was that I was closer to this place! Listed as under $10, but that's probably for the brat-in-a-bun for $2.50. Be prepared to drop some fair money for the best if you're taking some packs home. We usually spend $30-40 to stock up with a few of packs of brats and some burgers/sausage. You MUST go here! read more

Amazing brats, great customer service. Been stopping in for the last couple years. One of the things I'll miss when we move next month.

To dine in, take a choice of two selections from the warmer, pile on the condiments , and have seat at one of the three tables. Delicious sausages, varied deli selection. Very informal, friendly, unique read more

I bought a half pound of regular salami and two cooked bratwursts on buns on a Friday at lunchtime. The sausage was tasty and I liked that you didn't have to wait for the brats - they were hot and ready to go in a steamer. You prepare them with buns and mustard and condiments as you like, sit down, eat - fast and simple. I had a Polish brat and a cheese & potato brat - both were pretty good. Good fresh sausages, not factory made, so that's good. I was the only person eating in there, which is a shame because this place is a good lunch spot. I don't understand the near-emptiness of every good food spot I went to over a weekend in Alpena! Wake up, people! read more

Awesome food! Nice people. The place to go for Jalapeno Cheese Bratwurst! Dang! Now I need to go get some!
