Came in on a Monday night as we just pulled up into town after traveling for work and I needed Spanish Rice and carbs. After being seated the server gave us the menu and specials and the specials caught my eye as they had Fried Shrimp Tacos with a side of Spanish Rice. I didn't want to be too full so I thought it was going to be a good size. I was wrong their portions here are generous! 3 Tacos with 2 large shrimps inside and I couldn't finish the last one. ( I did take the shrimp and rice to go for a snack later) We also got guac and chips and it was nicely mashed, would def get again. Honestly will probably go before I leave the area. Hospitality and vibes were definitely there, you could see regulars come in and chatting it up with other diners and with the server. Really enjoy this interaction and this close nit community.

A hidden gem in North Michigan!…read more I was visiting Alpena for a diving trip and was recommended this place. Specifically the Fire Burger and their Poutine. Our party was 6, they gave us "outdoor beers" and a pager. When a table opened up we sat down and I was immediately impressed. Our server was friendly and helpful, super sweet. She handled our accommodations (one of my friends had a lot of specific "requests" for his meal.) We got the poutine and mozzarella sticks for our appetizers... holy sh*t.... The poutine was INCREDIBLE. The mozzarella sticks were clearly house made. Just absolute perfection. I took the recommendations of my friend, and got the Fire Burger... insane. If I could give this place 10 stars I would. Great beers. Great apps. Great burger. Just an all round great time. You owe it to yourself to try this spot.... This is obviously a neighborhood tavern where people know each other. I felt a little out of place, but still, I slid into a booth (ok, I moved the table and CLIMBED in; they seem to be repurposed pews and the edge is high) and the young woman who was tending the bar -- and who seemed to be the only server working -- came over promptly. I ordered the Westminster -- turkey, bacon, cheese, a cranberry pecan dressing on focaccia. And what the menu doesn't tell you is that the chips that come with it are plentiful, delicious and homemade! It was a good, big sandwich, and I took half of it with me. An odd note: one of the regulars, who had pretty obviously indulged in Happy Hour (actually, nearly everyone did, because as soon as it was 7:00, they all left!) came up to me, looked at my sandwich and said, "That looks good. I'll have to try it some time!" If you're looking for a pub with an English flair, this is the place to stop.
