Cool place. Nothing spectacular inside however the food was good. I see alot of mixed reviews here. I can see why as this place has the small bar feel but is huge. Could be overwhelming if full. So the burger was cooked perfectly as I requested. Had good seasonings and texture. Its not a fancy burger. That is what makes it a good burger. Onion rings were great. Hot fries too. We walked in at 7:35. We were told by the bartender the grill closed at 8pm (hours said 10pm) we said ok. Another girl walked up to seat us and said "the grill closes at 8pm so please hurry and order". She then asked a a guy server who just finished helping with the 1980s class reunion "do you want a table of 2?" He threw a fit and said "no". So we were seated and waited for about 10 mins. The server Josie came over telling us the grill closed at 8:00. It's now 7:50. I said "ok we are ready to order". My burger came out extremely well done which I ordered med. My fiancé ordered the bacon jam burger well and his was rare. A table of 4 came in at 8:01. The bar tender told our server Josie "you have a 4 top... good luck leaving at 9". Josie then said "Jesus Christ" as she's picking her teeth and putting lemons in a cup (yes with the same hand that was in her mouth) I had 1/4 of my burger left with a few fries and my pickles. I am still eating and she's asking to take my plate. We walked out at 8:15pm. Needles to say it was the worst service and burger we have ever had! Ample parking and decent menu. Waitress very efficient. We were a group of 9 and as we finished, a non waitress woman started clearing dishes. As she passed behind me, i felt something drop on my left shoulder and jacket. She said "it was just a lemon" and picked it up. Moments later, i adjusted my jacket and discovered a container of tarter sauce was inside my jacket, dripping down and on my shirt as well. I was in disbelief. The waitress saw me retrieve the container and brought napkins to wipe up the mess inside my jacket. The non waitress proceeded to sit at the bar. When i got up to leave, i approached her to let her know it was NOT just a lemon and to show her the mess in my jacket. I was told she is the owner and she became belligerent insisting it was only a lemon. I am appalled by this woman's behavior and denial of my distress. I was not seeking anything but an apology, instead got a very poor attitude toward a customer who spent a generous amount on food at her restaurant. I have stopped in here almost every visit to Alpena. Lunch or dinner there are many great things on the menu. Love the fries, large order enough for 4 at least. Burgers are made to order and fixed how you like them. They have in a few beers on tap; normal domestic and of course some Michigan Bell's Two-hearted, one of my go to beers. First off, great service! Both nights we came here, they were SLAMMED! That being said, our server kept communicating to us where/when our food was to be expected and in my world, that's everything. Just let us know what's happening and she did! Bravo! The food...worth the wait! I started with a bowl of their homemade clam chowder and their fried walleye for dinner. Both...delicious! The soup helped to satisfy a huge Clam-Chowder "jones" I'd be working up for over a month so, thank you for that! The Fried Walleye was also pretty good. A little greasy but who am I kidding, I ordered it fried! :) All in all, very good...hence why we ended up coming back the next night. Next night...I asked for their Prime Rib French Dip Sandwich...this was excellent! what really helped to make this excellent was their choice or roll they served it on...soft and perfect for dipping!! Called a week in advance for a reservation for large group. They say "first come, first serve." OK. Show up for dinner and a younger waitress says "next time make a reservation." LOL wut? The inside hasn't been updated since the early 1990s. No effort in fixing anything. It would be cute if it were like a small town diner with relatively agreeable prices. But here? Nah. $$ prices served in a dump. Concerning prices for value...just OK. Many in the party had fish dishes which can be naturally pricey. I get it. $20 nachos? What? Nothing special about them. Sandwiches are decently priced though no one got them. $22 average cost per person. The 2nd waitress who served us was a gem. Overall, I just don't get what all the fuss is about. I made reservations for my sons hockey team for 50-60ppl Nov 25th and Had 58 show up but needed a few extra chairs which not a big deal. They had enough staffing for our group and everything started off great. They took 25 kid orders first which was perfect. The adults placed their orders and received food I'd say within 45 minutes except the kids orders took 2hrs ( yes that is correct 2hrs ). Our parents were literally done eating for an hour before kids got their food. Extremely disappointed in the way they handled the group of kids. The food was good from what I heard but getting separate checks took almost 1hr. Next year we will be going to another establishment 100% . Walk in and it's feels and SMELLS like an indoor swimming pool. Super humid. Like I could WALK THROUGH the air! Weird. There's a sign that says "Hostess Will Seat You," yet the bartender doesn't pay attention or even acknowledge me. After a while a waitress that dropped salads at a table in the swimming pool...I mean front portion/bar area looks at me like I'm nuts for just standing there AFTER walking past me and delivering the salads and asks if she can help me. I say I was waiting to be seated per the sign and before I can get that all out, she says to just sit wherever I like. Again, like I'm nuts. Lol Things pick up with my waitress. She's super friendly. Bringing a menu and right away asks what I'd like to drink. Gives me time with the menu. Which is good since I am completely unfamiliar and there's a LOT on it. Tons of cool decorations for the Halloween season! They are REALLY into it! (As am I, honestly!) There's TVs. Which is good when you're on your own. You can make what you will of the casual tables and chairs from my pics. Now onto the food. It starts off well with the tasty French onion soup. The prime rib PRESENTS nicely enough. (I said ok and got it cause someone raved on Yelp that it was the best they'd ever had. ‍ No.) But the texture of it. Ugh. It's grilled. Who does a GRILLED prime rib?! Never seen it like this before now and never want to again. I think it was their way to cook it quickly without slow roasting it long enough to have it cooked tenderly. Trust me. This shortcut sucks balls. Sorry for the vulgarity but it was awful. I hardly ever eat the big wad of fat in the middle of a prime rib that a lot of people find delicious. I was trained by my mom to cut every sliver of fat off meats as a kid. But I usually eat the outer edge as well as the main piece of meat. This cut has only about a third of it that I could eat. It was super tough. Especially around the edges. And it was so not roasted through enough for the fat veins in the middle of the main part to be melted into the meat and could barely be cut through. Let alone chewed. Therefore, even MORE that wasn't able to be eaten. See the after picture. When my lovely waitress came back, there was so much left that she assumed I wanted a box to take it to go. I informed her "no, thank you." And then showed her how tough and horrible it was. Explaining how little I could eat. To her credit, she actually pushed down on the hard pieces like I had and agreed that it was too tough. She took it back to the kitchen and I heard her talking about it to the back staff. Heard that she had to call the manager to do anything about it. She comes back with the bill and says they approved giving me $2 off a $22 basically uneatable piece of dreck. I could tell she was chagrined at how little credit the manager offered. And what was I supposed to do...throw a fit?? The manager was obviously not there to request a more befitting compensation. She probably would have gotten into trouble if I insisted on more. Management obviously doesn't care about the customer's dissatisfaction or how bad it was. It was practically an insult to be given that paltry amount off the bill. So I've heard from my locally living friend that it's usually great. If you want to try it, I'd stay away from fancier items and stick with standard fair. Thus my experience started and then ended on a sour note. I can not recommend it. No matter how sweet my server was. Second star is for my server, the French onion soup and their Halloween decor. read more

Went here on a Friday evening and the placed was packed, and that is indicative of good food. The bar is cool and you can play keno or the lottery. In addition, they make a great gin and tonic. I ordered a prime rib sandwich. It was good. The au ju was a tad salty but I will let it slide. Overall a good place to spend an evening. read more

They had absolutely no flavor, the onions were WAY too thick and SO greasy. The salad was FINE, not good. Once again, it was big enough for two meals and the breadstick had no flavor. My friend ordered the chicken quesadilla after they were unable to serve the grilled cheese special without the olives. Again, enough food for three meals, but who would want to eat it even once? We dined at the 19th Hole as part of a large group during a recent trip to Alpena. My family was very thankful that they were able to accommodate so many of us on such short notice. The restaurant has daily specials which included the local whitefish. I enjoyed the club sandwich and spinach artichoke dips, both tasty. I was hoping for a mimosa but not such luck. My fiancé and I went there for lunch today. Should have just ordered one lunch and split it instead of each of us ordering one!! A lot of food!! I had a prime rib sandwich that melted in my mouth and he had a Rueben that the taste was AWESOME!!! All of it was soooo good!! I love the 19th hole. Quiet, relaxed atmosphere. Attentive staff. The nacho supreme is the best in the region - and the only one customizable to be vegetarian (with refried beans). I do wish they had baked potatoes as a staple side dish. Overall, it's one of my favorite spots in the area. I hope the ownership would be open to reviving the spirit of Twin Acres - where bands would play and Bob Seger would relax. Meh. Two of us had the ribs & chicken special. It was strange that the ribs were BBQ but the chicken was not. It was decent but not a do-over. The wife had fish & chips and enjoyed it. This was a Wednesday night and was very busy, so that was a good sign. Service was OK. I came here for lunch after my dad's burial as he and my step mom would come here to eat quite often. Kind of an old school bar atmosphere, they had set up the banquet area for us separate form the main dining area. Our server was very polite and nice and was quick and efficient as she was handling all 20-30 of us. The food was set up in advance which were croissant sandwiches (ham or turkey) and a salad. Ok great, I'm excited for someone who either has the Diarrhea or is vomiting serving my food. Salads were brought out late. One of us didn't get our meal- a simple club sandwich. It was never put in. When everyone else finished eating he brought it out. The order was incorrect and wasn't fixed after discussed with the waiter. Just a lot of "sorry bud" nothing was compensated or price reduced. I have nothing good to say about the food- no one in our party was happy with their over priced dive bar food. Steak was bland, shrimp batter was doughy/raw on the inside. The server was unprofessional and either untrained or too "out of it" to do his job. The restaurant was so dark we used flashlights to read the menu. After expressing being unhappy with our over $100 meal we got a half ass apology. Will never come here and wouldn't recommend anything. Tried contacting their facebook page and was ignored. Wife and I tried this restaurant on a friends suggestion. Since it was our anniversary, we usually get a prime rib dinner. We ordered prime rib for both of us, she got the 10 oz. and I got the 16 oz. with a salad and garlic mashed potatoes. The piece of meat we got we would not consider to be a piece of prime rib. Neither of us enjoyed the meat and we both ate no more than 1/4 of each one of ours and ask the server for a box to take it home to our dog. Based on this experience, we will not be coming to this restaurant again and will not recommend it anyone. Our nice anniversary dinner was ruined by what ever it was that they served us!! read more
