The greatest. The best. All hail the king! Kops rules the land of Toronto vinyl shopping…read more EVERY TIME, I pop into this location? I find something from my want list. But this week I found my holy grail. I was astounded to see this in the wilds of Toronto. Kops is like that, though. They are petty much some next-level peeps. The other bonus is running into Martin. I love his brilliant grasp of history. I have gained so much valuable insight from shopping and having a chat with this brilliant crew, that other stores can't even come close. Did I mention the vinyl? Amazing!

I love this place…read more I've found crazy deals here on some rare jams (Karate - Unsolved, Hey Mercedes - Everynight Fire Works... etc) that give me hope that not everyone is out to gouge vinyl buyers. Despite knowing the going rates online the staff choose to price the albums based on what seems reasonable, rather than the maximum someone will pay. The used selection is smaller than other places in the city, but they always seem to have something on my wantlist in stock and well priced. New stock is also well chosen and well priced, but I tend to buy mostly used stuff - so other than some NOS they seemed to have last year (Moneen's last LP, and some others) I mostly stick with used stuff other than a few special order items they brought in for me. Staff are all super rad too - very friendly and helpful. Great to chat with if you're the type to chat. All this being said - please don't go here. Leave the well priced jams for me.

No list of Top Toronto Vinyl Stores is complete without Shortstack Records…read more While the shop is smaller than some of the others in Toronto, it more than makes up for it with its customer service. The owner Cal MacLean is a true vinyl aficionado who has helped me track down several of my most sought after LPs for very fair prices. I also highly recommend selling/trading your unwanted records here as it has the fairest prices in the city.

Caveat emptor. If you buy a used record here and it is defective, you're out of luck. "Final sale"…read moreapparently means that even though you didn't cause the defect, too bad. I brought back a record that was defective and asked for an exchange. I assumed that since they sold me a defective record, they'd want to make good with an exchange. And I'm not talking about a defect that you can see if you scan the vinyl; this is/was an invisible defect. Apparently, "final sale" means "no exchanges and if it's defective, your problem now." I asked the clerk if I bought a $75 LP (mine was a less costly purchase) and it was defective, I'd be out of luck, right? He fumbled and offered less-than-clear excuses. You can't play records at the station there in advance (unlike Sonic boom), I was told, so it's all a gamble. Can you imagine going to, say, Indigo and buying a book that you later find to be missing pages and then bringing it back to the store and them saying "Too bad, final sale"? That would never happen. Which tells you a lot about Kops' ethical standards -- meaning, the lack thereof.

If you are in Toronto and are looking for current radio hits then the selection at this cute shop is for you. The albums appear to be predominantly new with a smallish section of used discs. Prices seem fair and I would definitely visit again.

This place is kindof a mess…read more The records aren't well organized at all. Everything starting with the same letter is all jumbled together. So if you're looking for Bowie, his records will be scattered throughout the "B" section. That's okay I guess if you've got all day to browse, but the records are also packed in super tight. So browsing, usually a pleasure, becomes a real chore. Another bummer, there is little to no current music here.
