I visited this practice in Aldie for treatment, and the office staff provided me with a treatment estimate. I specifically asked them to obtain pre‑approval from my insurance, but I was told that they had checked my benefits and everything was "good to go." At every visit, they required full payment upfront without waiting for an EOB from the insurance company. I paid all charges in good faith. Now, after completing treatment, they have sent me an additional bill claiming that insurance did not cover my treatment. This is completely opposite of what I was told during my last phone conversation with their staff, when I was assured that I had no remaining balance. I feel misled and taken advantage of. The office staff member I spoke with was also rude, which made the situation even more frustrating. read more

I have to say that the experience in the past has been good close to 3-4 starts. However, the fact that they only have one hygienist in the practice and that it can take usually 4 months to book appointment is not a good professional level of service with a practice in four locations. The office experience is acceptable, nothing exceptional but adequate. I had a recent gum grafting done by Dr. Elnakka at the office. Initially, I was very nervous and anxious about the procedure but Dr. Elnakka explained everything thoroughly to me. On the day of the procedure I was super anxious but the procedure itself was not bad. Dr. Elnakka did it do seamlessly I did not feel anything. As long as you follow post care instructions it's really easier than how it sounds. Front desk staff and other assistants were really fantastic. They are always on top everything and super nice. If you are on the cusp trying to decide if you should do it, call the office. My experience with Dr. Kharmouche's clinic was deeply disappointing--both medically and ethically. My antibiotic treatment was delayed for five days, despite repeatedly texting Dr. Kharmouche directly and calling the clinic from Wednesday to Friday. I spent the weekend without antibiotics, with an active infection that ruptured on Sunday night. I finally received antibiotics on Monday. Instead of an apology or accountability, the office manager responded in a dismissive tone and showed disbelief. When inflammation returned, I was not treated as an emergency--even though I texted Dr. Kharmouche explaining that the antibiotics were no longer helping. I endured a second, avoidable round of antibiotics and inflammation that could have been prevented had my symptoms been taken seriously from the beginning. I walked around with active inflammation, waiting for my extractions for three more weeks After my extractions, I was given a poorly designed flipper. I complained about the discomfort and mismatching relief. Later, I texted the doctor about bleeding under the flipper and received no help--only a delayed response: "Sorry, didn't check the phone during the day." Further complaints about pain, irritation, and redness were dismissed. As a result, I suffered significant gum loss, which ultimately prevented placement of the second implant as originally planned. My new provider confirmed the flipper was improperly designed and directly contributed to the gum loss--and it took him only a few minutes to recognize what Dr. Kharmouche failed to acknowledge over several months, despite watching me wear it and repeatedly complain about discomfort. I now need additional gum grafting surgery and must wait at least four more months before I can resume implant treatment. Beyond the clinical issues, I encountered serious ethical concerns. I was misled about my insurance coverage, denied access to treatment estimates and plans despite repeated requests, and faced direct manipulation and dishonesty from the office manager. My insurance claim was sabotaged with poor-quality submissions that delayed reimbursement, and Dr. Kharmouche failed to hold his staff accountable even after being made aware of their conduct. I trusted this clinic with my care, and that trust was broken. After repeated mistreatment, I left the clinic and sought post-surgical care elsewhere--but then faced active refusal from Nova Perio to cooperate with me or my new provider: They left me without any information about when my after surgical stitches needed to be removed, despite knowing I had left the clinic and was seeking care with a new provider. The refund for a second implant (which I paid for but was never placed) was withheld for nearly two months. Dr. Kharmouche refused to release the second part of the prepaid implant to my new provider, forcing me to purchase a new one. The clinic repeatedly sabotaged my insurance reimbursement by submitting unusable x-rays. Ultimately, I was forced to return and complete the implant with Dr. Kharmouche due to financial reasons. I brought up the ongoing insurance issues and hoped we could resolve everything amicably. I gave Nova Perio a chance to fix it all, and I gave Dr. Kharmouche time to analyze, investigate, and take action. Initially, Dr. Kharmouche promised to complete the implant and address the gum loss. However, my calls and repeated requests for treatment estimates were again ignored. Every patient deserves responsive care and honest communication. I was denied both. Dr. Kharmouche did not offer to correct the damage to my gums free of charge or even with a discount. In fact, he shifted the blame, saying: "We offered you a choice between the flipper or aligners--and this is what you chose." He also took no responsibility for the repeated mistreatment I experienced from his staff. Since realizing I could no longer trust this clinic or Dr. Kharmouche with my care, I decided to fix my gum loss elsewhere. Dr. Kharmouche is both the treating provider and the owner of the clinic, there is no higher authority within the practice to hold him accountable when something goes wrong! read more

NOVA Perio Specialists are fantastic! I had the most positive experience that I have ever had in a dental office with Dr. Kharmouche in the Leesburg office. The staff were professional, friendly, and engaging, and I never once attended an appointment where someone wasn't kind and helpful. The office manager was also exceptional - knowledgeable and clear about billing and the entire surgical process. I was referred by my dentist for some minor gum grafting due to recession, and the process was flawless. The pain was minimal and the recovery was exceptionally fast. Dr. Kharmouche's work resulted in a much-improved smile with no gaps between my teeth and gums. I also very much appreciated the fact that he only recommended a minimal approach and did not try to convince me that I needed more dental treatment than I desired. I came to my appointment just to be told when I arrived that They don't accept my insurance even though they confirmed that they did the day before. I was informed the previous day I was covered for an exam, cleaning, and deep cleaning. This office does not respect the time of its patients. I wasted time taking off work and driving 30 miles just yo have them cancel when I arrive AFTER I confirmed I was covered the day before by providing my group ID and insurance ID number. As a courtesy for their mistake she should have at least given me a 5 minute examination as they wasted an hour of my time to get there and lied saying I was covered. read more

I went in to NOVA Perio based on a referral to address my gum recession. The initial consultation was great, took no more time than I'd planned, and I really felt appreciated by the periodontist. He went beyond just the general consultation and noticed one of my other teeth may need a better look by my dentist. So he took an X-Ray (at no cost to me) and reviewed and forwarded it over to my dentist. We also chatted a little about our lives and kids. I really felt appreciated, and like a human being during the entire consultation. I needed three gum grafts, and they recommended I start with one, see how it goes, and make plans for the future grafts. They quickly and clearly showed what the procedure involves and the cost, including my insurance benefit. Everything was incredibly clearly written out, and there was no pressure to schedule that day. I let them know I needed to check with my spouse, and they completely understood. I scheduled the procedure for about 2 weeks after I called and it went off incredibly well. I had pain the night of, but the next day it was almost gone, and three days later just felt like normal healing. I'll definitely be back for the other grafts, and any future periodontal work I might need. I can't recommend them enough. read more

These folks have 3 locations. Be careful of their pressure tactics and *always* get a 2nd opinion. I regret the treatment I received and it made my gums worse, caused more gum loss. The one Dr. called me dumb and had an attitude because I refused part of the treatment they recommended. I felt pressured and scared into the treatment plan they suggested because I have an anxiety disorder so I went along with it because he implied my teeth would fall out. I went in for one small issue and came out with a treatment plan for my entire mouth and $$$ of suggested dental work. Other dentists look weird when I tell them the treatment I had and say they don't think that was necessary. I really regret it all and I went there initially based on reviews. read more

I was referred to this practice by my dentist. I never returned. I was put off by this practice when the Periodontist recommended Botox at the top of our visit. They repeated a complete bitewing x-ray when I had just completed a set at my dentist less than two weeks prior to this visit. Honestly, it just felt like a sales pitch. They mentioned my insurance twice during the treatment portion. The Periodontist didn't seem interested in exploring other options than surgery. When I checked out, the office manager presented a multi-page treatment plan and asked me to sign it before I had actually read it. When I insisted on reading it, she stated "it just states that I explained this to you and you understand everything". But Ma'am, I don't ... because ... I haven't read it yet. I have known Dr. Kharmouche for almost two decades. I encountered him when he first moved to the area and was working out of another dentists' office as their periodontal specialist. He performed subgingival (under the gum) antibiotic treatment for some deep pockets I had which were the beginnings of more serious periodontal disease. His technical skill, sense of humor and compassion shone through and stuck in my memory. Fast forward to several years ago when I was told by my dentist that I had a crowned tooth with very deep pockets and weakened bone structure and needed an implant or bridge (this in spite of the fact that the dentist had been performing regular deep cleanings and examinations three times a year to monitor gum disease signs). Rather than go to the dentists' recommended oral surgeon, I decided to look up Dr. Kharmouche. He examined my tooth and explained that it was poor work by the dentist who placed the crown that likely resulted in the tooth having the issues it had. Despite there being concerns about limited bone mass to support an implant due to the failing tooth, he was able to successfully insert an implant without the need for bone grafts. A family member who dislikes dentists and can't stand pain has also seen him for two implants. Dr. Kharmouche examines you thoroughly and explains your situation clearly and gives you the options available. He keeps up with the latest advances in the field, so he can be hard to schedule if he is out of town presenting at a conference. His staff all seem to share the same level of dedication and professionalism that he aspires to. I can recommend him without hesitation as one of the best periodontic specialists in the mid-Atlantic area. Having heard from many people who have visited other periodontic specialists and have had disappointing results, I would recommend paying Dr. Kharmouche out of pocket even if he does not accept your insurance. Prior to starting treatment, I signed an agreement with a detailed cost breakdown for the services. After completing the treatment I received a surprise bill for a substantial amount over the signed agreement. The additional charges were never discussed or provided in writing. And it appeared all work went according to plan. My recommendation to potential patients is to treat the initial cost agreement as a starting point for the costs, and expect a substantial surprise extra invoice at the end of the treatment. read more
