Unresponsive and unreliable. Scheduled and waited for an estimate to replace my entire HVAC system. They didn't even bother to give an estimate or send a proposal, so it was a complete waste of time. Fortunately, there are several other companies that were more professional. I would recommend looking elsewhere. read more

Steve has been my go-to HVAC guy for probably 20 years. I met him thru Consumer Checkbook having scoured the publication for who was the best value with great service (he was). In my mind, he still is. He has talked me out of spending money on a new system, told me when it was time to replace vs repair, and even has talked me over the phone how to determine if a service call is needed. I've given his name to literally dozens of friends, family, neighbors and with one exception, every one has hired (and loved) Steve, his prices and his team which includes Danny who is a rock star tech in his own right and Jennifer who keeps the office humming. While I hope never to have an emergency, I needed service at 2 different properties in the past couple weeks and each time someone was on site within one day. They installed our AC/heat system back in 2012. The house had the original AC system and took forever to cool the house. The new AC system was (and still is) awesome. I called them because we weren't getting any cool air and they came the same day and in the time frame they said they would. the tech was awesome and fixed it fairly quickly for a reasonable price. We bought a house in Aldie recently and soon noticed problems with the A/C. I got quotes from several HVAC businesses to replace my A/C including NOVA Mechanical Services. They definitely had the best prices. However, part of the reason why is that the owner's philosophy is to sell the cheapest units available (still quality brand - Trane). The installation was quick and efficient. Kudos on that. Unfortunately, I quickly discovered that the unit I bought, having been talked into it by the owner, could not keep my upstairs below 73 if outside went above mid-80's. In other words the unit is not up to the job - something I had expressed concerns about in discussion with the owner before buying. He assured me it was fine since this new unit had the same performance rating (2 ton) as the original and that must have been fine since the "previous owners' would have done something about it if it couldn't handle the job". I called them back to check if there were any problems and no but the house has no shade, it's a good size area to cool ect. They knew all this though, before making the recommendation - their guy was here and saw the house and set up and everything before so they could do the estimate. Now I have spent several thousands on a new unit that cools no better than the 14-year old unit it replaced. read more

I first used NOVA Mechanical Services last year to clean my heating ducts, which I'd never had done before. They were professional and reasonably priced, and cleaning the ducts greatly increased heating efficiency in my home. This week, while we were out of town on vacation, the pet sitter called to say the furnace went out. Of course, it was a Sunday night and of course below freezing weather was moving in. I called their number and left a message, figuring I wouldn't hear back until Monday. But my call was returned within half hour and I was scheduled for first thing Monday morning. Despite me not being there, the tech showed up, found and fixed the problem within 1/2 hour of the appointment time. Easy fix, just a broken switch and reasonably priced. Also, since I wasn't home he just left an invoice and told the pet sitter to have me send a check when I return. Great, fast service! read more

I used NOVA for issues I had with my heat and air-conditioning. They came out and from what my tenant said, did a good job. The reason I am writing a negative review is I needed to get copies of the invoices for my taxes. I called on Monday, and the lady that answered told me she would pull them by that afternoon. Did not receive anything. I called Tuesday and another lady answered who said she would have her call me back. No callback. I called Wednesday morning and the first lady answered and said she had been very busy and would try to get to it and was actually a bit rude when I explained that my tax accountant was waiting for the number. I do not feel like that is very good service. read more

He also came in $3,000 under the quote I got from N.I.C.E. on a furnace & A/C replacement job. Just found out today that the install from two years ago was never inspected!! I hired them to replace my old oil furnace with HVAC and propane backup. While the system works fine the workers left trash, one said the owner "didn't know what he was talking about", while the owner called one of the workers "a liar." I had to call daily sometimes twice or more to get the install finished. Unprofessional. Let's see how long it takes to get them to call me back and finish the inspections. Saw good reviews so asked NOVA Mechanical to come out to our condo building to give estimates. Other owners also needed estimates, so took the opportunity to ask for 5 estimates while they were here. That was convenient for the owners and thought it would have been a great opportunity for NOVA Mechanical Unfortunately, after the Jul 12 2017 visit, I couldn't get NOVA Mechanical to actually provide the estimates. Despite numerous phone calls, where they said they would send them, and e-mails where they didn't respond, still no estimates. NOVA Mechanical Services saved us! We are a busy dental practice, so when our air conditioner started acting up, we were worried. We called NOVA Mechanical Services and they had someone out to see us right away. They talked us through all of the possible scenarios. They asked us to keep them updated after they got the blower going. It ended up acting up again well after business hours (we expected it to act up again) and they responded to my call right way. They had someone out and replacing our blower first thing in the morning. We had ZERO interruption in our schedule and the service reps were professional and kind. Ok, to start off with I do not write reviews but I need to make an exception this time for the exceptional service I received from NOVA Mechanical Services. Woke up Thursday morning with a cold house, our gas furnace was blowing cold air. Made a 7:00 AM call to NOVA Mechanical services based on positive reviews listed in Washington Checkbook Magazine. To my pleasant surprise I did not get a voice recording nor was the call routed to a call service. The call was answered after 3 rings (again 7:00 AM) by an individual who knew HVAC, was competent, asked focused and appropriate questions, and was quickly scheduled for an appointment later that day at a time that was met my schedule requirements. The service technician arrived on time, was polite, and professional. He quickly diagnosed the issue, had the replacement part on hand, and fixed the furnace. He also did preventative maintenance on the unit per my request when I set up the appointment. He was very thorough, and did a comprehensive inspection and cleaning of the unit. When he finished I asked for an assessment of the unit and a number of questions associated with the operation of the furnace. It was obvious he knew his trade and it should also be pointed out that he did not try to sell me a new furnace. The bill was reasonable and this firm gained a loyal customer. I have dealt with a number of home service firms in the past and this one by far is the best. From scheduling, arriving on time, the service call, to the bill, this firm exceeded all of my expectations. Can't speak highly enough of them. True professionals. read more
