I had a positive experience at Nova. The staff are so warm and welcoming and Laura the front desk receptionist is the best! She is super responsive and just overall friendly. They always made us feel very at ease during the process. I had Dr Sokalska as my main doctor. At first I wanted the other doctors because I had read their reviews on Yelp and there weren't any reviews specific to Dr Sokalska, but I ended up really liking Dr Sokalska! I assume she's newer to the practice but she's so patient with all the questions and she's super funny too. She was updating us thoughout each step of our process and I never felt like we were bothering her with our questions. I had a really good outcome so far using their freezing services! If you are using your workplace benefits I highly recommend Nova as they are responsive and communicative and sometimes I had issues with Maven my provider and Laura was super caring and said if any funny business comes up again that she would contact their own Maven rep herself which I so appreciate! My friend went to a different clinic and so far didn't yield the experience or outcome she wanted so I'm super glad I decided to drive a little further out to see the wonderful staff at Nova! read more

I would absolutely not recommend Nova IVF if you are a more medically complex. I had one consult with Dr Sokalska and have no interest in proceeding with treatment at this clinic. 1. She told me I was too fat for the weight limit on their procedure table and dismissively asked "you can lose the weight, right?" I haven't seen never encountered a medical facility with a table that couldn't hold me and honestly if she couldn't treat me as I am, the conversation should have ended there. 2. She argued with me about my own medical conditions in regards to the anesthesia I'd need for egg retrieval. It's not her area of expertise and the correct answer should have been, "given the complications you've had, let's set up a meeting with our anesthesiologist to see if they are comfortable doing your procedure here." Or even "we've had patients with your set of issues before." 3. She shamed me for not starting IVF sooner. Even though I've been following the medical advice of another fertility doctor. There were a couple other things, but these were the most egregious. Her overall attitude and demeanor were extremely blunt for someone that is helping people through an emotionally challenging period. She didn't seem equipped to handle my case and given what she said to me, I didn't want to try. Highly disappointed given the personal recommendation we had going in. read more

We have received the best care at Nova IVF, from the initial consultation until my graduation to an OB office. Dr. Shah took her time to carefully walk through the entire process with me, answering all my questions and encouraging me along the way. Danielle (NP) also took such great care of me at every single visit. After my first round of egg retrieval, the clinic adjusted my treatment plan in hopes of a more successful second round - which worked! I had an incredibly positive experience with Dr. Schmidt, Dr. Shah, and the entire team. Both doctors are very knowledgeable and professional, but also compassionate and thoughtful in their communication. Both doctors and support staff always took the time to explain each step of the process, including possible outcomes and what to expect, which made me feel informed and supported. I appreciated that I always spoke directly with the doctors, even for routine updates like fertilization numbers or pregnancy results. That said, the nursing staff and care coordinator were just as exceptional; consistently responsive, friendly, and professional throughout the entire process. We had to wait several months before we could be seen, which was difficult as I was impatient to get started. But in the end, it was absolutely worth it. From just one egg retrieval, we now have several frozen embryos and are currently pregnant with our first transfer. While we can't say how things might have gone at another clinic, both my husband and I feel that the wait was well worth it. read more

I have not seen such a highly specialized, highly accomplished doctor to be so patient and spend so much time with each patient, answering each question, calling the patient for check ins, and comforting the patient when anxious. Dr. Shaw is one of the foremost experts on challenging IVF cases; she's especially good at difficult implantations and thin uterline linings! She is very much on the cutting edge of this in terms of science; not only is she up to date on all the latest scientific publications, she herself is working on a pre-publication on a treatment for thin uterline linings! We had failed twice at a different clinic, but with Dr. Shaw, it's one and done - we are expecting now in March 2025!! Her staff and and office personel are extremely supportive (please don't misconstrue their persistent requests for information for being annoying - they are just trying to maximize your chances!!) and I would highly recommend Nova IVF to anyone who's looking to do IVF! I've been very busy with my new bundle joy and have delayed providing my review. That sentence alone should tell you how amazing I find Nova. The doctors (Dr shah, Dr Schmidt) are amazing. Dr Schmidt in my consultation provided such clear medical reasoning to why my endo could be still impacting why I can't get pregnant. He was very thoughtful and provided a lot of time for my husband and I to ask questions. Dr. shah was so empathetic at every appointment and really both doctors are amazing. I really want to say the staff that help you every single way through were amazing. They are the real grunt workers there. Teaching my husband how to get comfortable giving injections, taking my late night call so I understood how many syringes to use. I can't describe in words how nice this staff was during such a difficult time. Negative thing it is out of network so dealing with payments is a bit tough but honestly that's more to say about the health insurance company than Nova. I don't even know where to start with this review. After researching many IVF locations, I came across NOVA IVF, the absolute BEST DECISION of my life. From the moment I set up my appointment to the very end, Dr. Shah and her team are remarkable, passionate, personal, attentive, and caring. The whole process was smooth sailing with their excellent communication skills. As you may know, it's a learning process, and I had many, many questions about medications, timing, etc. The nurses are always on top of their communication skills. They are with you every step of the way, literally. They made my wife and myself, feel comfortable with them from the beginning. This review is long overdue! Prior to Nova, we had done a couple IUIs through Kaiser Santa Clara & the experience wasn't great. Nova has top notch customer service. A bulk of the ongoing communication was mostly done through emails. Everyone is super responsive, warm & caring. Laura is excellent with handling the finances. Their phone service is awesome when you have emergency questions after hours too! I was under Dr Shah's care through my retrieval & both transfers. I had my hesitations with ivf due to fear of needles but without this team, we couldn't possibly have had babies on our own. We had unexplainable fertility for a couple years & then when my husband had to undergo chemotherapy, we were crushed. My mind is still blown that they were able to just shave a little part of the frozen sperm to create our embryos. Their staff offered to do progesterone shots for you during the process, which I know Kaiser wouldn't do for their patients. Also, Nova allowed for a combo of pills & bi weekly shots. I am forever grateful that we came across & got in with Nova when we did. My son is currently almost 3 & my daughter will soon be 1. I really can't say enough about NOVA IVF! I'm 21 weeks pregnant thanks to their incredible knowledge, skill and professionalism. Dr. Shah in particular was amazing and went above and beyond. I previously had infertility treatments at Kaiser and I was surprised, as someone who worked in health care--how much I was treated as a number, instead of as a person.This led me on my IVF search. My husband and I made the best choice to go through IVF with Nova! Infertility is an emotional rollercoaster and Nova was with us every step of the way. We scheduled consultation with Dr. Charles at 11 am , he showed up on zoom at 11:30 and we had short conversations he seems super tired and didn't want to talk about our case , then we got the bill of $395 and treat us if we are not going to pay they will send it to collection agency. I called and Spoke with Winy about it and I explained the zoom and I told her Dr didn't spend time with us to go over the IFV procedures , she rudely said no that is the $395 and I have to pay ,and she hanged up on me twice and 3rd time she transferred me to another person . They want to rip off people for only 10-15 minutes of the time that the Dr spent with us plus Winy shouldn't be in front desk talking to clients aggressively, she needs some kind of training then work for this clinic , she doesn't know how to communicate with clients at all . Nova Clinic is the BEST of the best. I can't believe someone puts one star because they have to wait several months for an appointment. This clinic is top notch & is in great demand for a reason! We were referred by my husbands Urologist. We had the opportunity to have 80% of IVF covered by insurance if we went with an "in network" fertility clinic however after meeting with Dr. Schmidt we knew he was the one who could help us. We paid out of pocket and it's worth every penny. Dr. Schmidt is genuine, honest and knowledgeable. His staff is caring, hard working and extremely organized. His office was always quick to respond to any questions or concerns. A+ in every aspect. They also have an excellent rating in successful pregnancies. Every patient is different and Dr. Schmidt has the knowledge and skill to make the best recommendations according to each individual. This is a person you can trust. I'm 42 and was surprised when Dr. Schmidt recommended transferring 4 embryos however we trusted him and his evaluation was on target. We only had a 28% chance of 1 embryo out of the 4 being a viable birth. Out of the 4, 1 heartbeat was detected and now we are almost at 30 weeks with a baby boy. Baby is healthy and growing strong. My Perinatologist has signed off this "high risk" pregnancy due to all is well and I'm now treated as a normal pregnancy!! We also had the clinic freeze the final 6 embryos for FET in 2013. If you are fortunate enough to come across Nova Clinic, then there is a reason for it. My husband and I are so very grateful for the wonderful experience! 12/17/13 update- healthy baby boy is 10 months old & now doing FET on Friday. Again our experience with Nova has been excellent. 5/26/14 update- Did get pregnant with FET however miscarried at 9 weeks in February (probably genetic). The staff and Dr. Schmidt were exceptional during this difficult time. Jessica, Laura, Dani, Joy and many others in the office were caring and considerate. We were out of frozen embryos so I had to do another round of IVF at 43 years old. I'm very grateful that Dr. Schmidt was willing to take me at my age & working with me to use my own eggs. Let me start off by saying I am one of the few patients Dr. Schmidt wasn't able to help. This was no fault of his or his team's, I just seem to be an unusual case. And that's okay, it happens sometimes. With that said, I still give him and his staff the highest marks for professionalism and support. From the front desk staff, who were always warm and friendly, to the nurses, I always felt everyone was cheering us on and ready to answer any questions we had. I know some people have complained about the long wait list but keep in mind that Dr. Schmidt is in high demand because he's outstanding at what he does. He also does everything he can to be there for his patients, including coming in on holidays if necessary in order to do an egg retrieval. There is ALWAYS someone there to answer a phone, not a phone service. If you have to leave a message, it is returned promptly. From the first day we had our consultation, and mind you this was not our first fertility consultation, we were glad we went with Nova. Dr. Schmidt was patient, thorough, and explained the whole fertility process and procedure in terms that are easy to understand. He took his time, answered all our questions, and had a wonderful bedside manner. It's very obvious he is passionate about his work and cares about his patients. The medical support staff (which may have changed since we were there) I interacted with most were Dani and Stephanie. Both young women were very knowledgeable, patient, and supportive. Laura, who is at the front desk and handles billing, is a rock star. Again, friendly, supportive, and knowledgeable. The billing is complicated and can be overwhelming, just like the treatment calendar and medications but Laura handles it all with grace and patience to make sure that you understand everything. In my particular case, we did the retrieval but none of the eggs made it to day 5 where we could do a transfer. Each update was delivered by Dr. Schmidt himself, not a nurse, not Laura. I really appreciated that, especially because things went downhill after what seemed to be a strong start and it helped to talk to him about the medical technicalities and what steps to take moving forward. If I were to do IVF again, I would not hesitate to go back to him. My brother and sister in law were actually able to have a baby thanks to Dr. Schmidt! So I would not hesitate to send other friends and family his way too. read more

Is there a 10 star rating with a high five and thumbs up option? In my age range there are 3 top norcal clinics, NOVA, SF & RSC. My OB recommended NOVA & only NOVA. We were told we'd be put on a waiting list so in the meantime my OB ordered all the blood work needed and sent them the results as well as my medical history. I also filled out and sent them their medical questionnaire. NOVA had a full profile on me before we even met. While waiting, I felt obligated to do my research so I met with RSC because of their statistics in my age group. It was quite an experience. I felt like I was part of an assembly line. I left there feeling overwhelmed. The only thing that was clear was that I had a "case manager" and "financial advisor" that I could address my questions to. I never felt welcomed to contact the doctor directly. With the emotional roller coaster I was on, I never felt assured. There's a handful of other reasons why I decided not to go with them but I will keep this about NOVA. We decided to wait for NOVA to call us. Here is a couple reasons why we chose NOVA: Dr. Schmidt - I love him! He makes us feel like we are his only patients. He explains everything so clearly and thoroughly. I can't rave enough about how patient, thoughtful and caring he is. I absolutely love this man! Nova Team - AMAZING! Everyone is so sweet and genuine. They all have the best calming bedside manners. Words can not express how thankful I am for this wonderful team. Every time I had a blood test, they called us right away with our results and followed up with a detailed email. Please note that they call first, communication is always personable. Facility - beautiful, comfortable and calming. Finances - no stress process. All fees were given to us on an organized spreadsheet. We knew exactly what to expect during the early stages. Then we paid one lump sum (pricing is on his website) at the start of our procedure. Bottom line, everything included = less stress. My 2 cents - I know the waiting list is intimating. But after meeting Dr. Schmidt and his team, I understand why he's personally recommended by so many doctors. This is a team that cares about each and every one of their patients. The billing department is very greedy. I bought 2 times IVF treatment package in 2018.At that time, my insurance didn't cover my IVF treatment.So I paid all the treatment costs to Nova by myself.The amount was more than 20 thousands dollars.In 2019, I was lucky to have a very good new insurance and it could covered my IVF treatment.So I asked Nova to help me to submit reimbursement that the treatment fee happened during the 2019 to my insurance company.The director of the Nova billing department agreed and refunded the first time's reimbursement fee. But I shocked that Nova withheld my second reimbursement fee and refused to pay me！I couldn't do anything about the dishonourable behavior.I hope you get some lessons from my bad experience. Even got more ridiculous,because I had patient balance due,I needed to pay money to insurance for the second reimbursement that I didn't get any money.Of course I refused to pay it.So today I still receive the billing from the insurance company. read more

I went back to Nova trying for the 2nd baby. Sadly the experience was not the same. I had 4 unsuccessful IUI (2 miscarriages). The most disappointing thing was no blood check nor any investigation done. When I asked, the answer was "because you had a successful pregnancy before, no need to check". I consulted with two other IVF clinics before deciding on Nova. I didn't feel much care from the first 2. I imagine these doctors get the same questions over and over, but my meeting with Dr shah was super throrough, the staff there is so nice and patient, and I didn't feel rushed. During my IVF process I really felt like the staff all knew what my situation was, I never had to do any explaining on the info I needed or what step of the process I was in. Most of all, I didn't feel like they were going to pump me up with as many hormones as possible like a test animal, just to make a baby and increase their success rate. Dr Schmidt said he only wanted to give me what was really needed. As someone who doesn't even take Tylenol, I really appreciated that. I have never had such a positive experience with a medical facility. I never felt rushed, I always got an answer right away, even when I called the emergency line. The process went perfectly for me; I'm now 8 weeks pregnant and I am so happy that I went with Nova for a process that can be so difficult. I've already written one glowing review for NOVA. Now that we have our second child, I'm back for another. My wife and I were just discussing how much we love NOVA, and for me, I love how data driven they are. It's such a heavily researched, articulate, and statistically driven process. For example, we did 4 cycles with him to get 12+ embryos because statistically it takes 6 per live birth. We had 13 to start, used 4 for our first daughter, and 3 for our second. We still have 6 left! (Not sure what to do now because I don't think we want a 3rd). Anyways we have two beautiful little girls almost exactly 3 years apart. It's an amazing clinic with a fabulous team and a meticulous process. We went through three clinics (and 5 doctors) before them. They are the best by a landslide! I just finished a (freeze-all egg retrieval to be used in a gestational carrier arrangement) cycle with Nova. I felt so much gratitude towards them for how they've shepharded and supported me through this process that I felt very compelled to write a review. The staff is so kind and caring. Dr. Schmidt is such a doll. He was always so encouraging and positive. I never once felt treated like a number. Angela, the nurse that worked with me, was amazing. She was so incredibly encouraging every step of the way. When I call their office, they know who I am, they know where I am in my cycle, they know how to field my call with expertise, efficiency, and still with a kind human touch. I'll be honest. I'm a bit of a veteran of fertility treatments at this point. I've made the rounds. I've been trying to concieve for five years. Although this was my first IVF, I've done many medicated (clomid and injectible) IUIs and so much testing & consulting and I've had four failed pregnancies, and an emergency hysterectomy. And I've been researching and planning IVF for a LONG time. So I thought nothing could intimidate me anymore. I thought I was such a pro. But when push came to shove, it was still scary and it challenged me every step of the way. I'm so grateful that they helped me get through it and that I came away with such an amazing and positive experience. It's never easy to put yourself through this stuff. So much is riding on it. I would get anxiety and stomach aches on the way to every visit because this journey has been filled with so much stress and heartache for me. No matter how tightly wound I was, they always reassured me and calmed me and encouraged me. IVF involves so many scary steps. You have to put so much trust in others. After a couple of visits, I realized it was safe to just put it in their hands and trust them. It took such a load off of me to feel that comfortable. I've also consulted with FPNC, Zouves, RSC, Stanford, etc. In the end, I surprised myself by choosing Nova because I was biased and thought the bigger, more high-profile places had more cutting edge protocols and facilities. But in the end, I was proven wrong. I'm SOOOO glad I chose Nova and I had great results with my cycle. I do not believe any of those other places could have given me better results. And i got to watch my own retrieval because they don't do general anesthesia!!! That alone was SOOO worth it!!! I wish I could say more good things. Just please, check them out.
