I had a very upsetting experience at Nova Hotel. During my stay, while I was still a registered guest with a checkout date of July 29, a staff member entered my occupied room without knocking or announcing himself. I was undressed and only realized someone had entered after hearing the door open and calling out for my boyfriend several times. I was initially told it was "checkout time," but after speaking with the front desk, I was told the employee had entered for maintenance. No one notified me beforehand that maintenance would be entering my room. To make matters worse, my room's lock was not functioning properly, which made me feel even more unsafe. While the front desk apologized, I don't believe the situation was handled appropriately. Guests deserve advance notice when possible and staff should always knock and identify themselves before entering an occupied room. I hope the hotel improves its procedures so no one else has to experience this. This version is concise, focuses on what happened from your perspective, and avoids making claims that you can't verify, which makes it more credible for a public review. read more

Long story short. During my stay I was displaced twice due to the ac not working, as well as multiple flies in the room. Upon being displaced, both times, guest checking in had been assigned to my room, giving them keys to let themselves in my room, TWICE! When I requested to speak to a manager, I was told they will not be there and that I had to send an email. Email sent, but I NEVER RECEIVED A RESPONSE. As much as I would like to give this hotel 4 or 5 stars, I can't. I want to definitely start off with saying customer service is great. Suna was beyond professional, friendly, accommodating and provided suggestions on places in the area to eat. What I liked: The hotel aesthetics was nice. The lobby area was beautiful. Lobby seating, computer area, complimentary coffee and croissants was a great touch. The hallway carpet was bright and colorful and whatever fragrance they use, smelled good. Check in process was easy and I don't believe there was an incidental fee which I liked. Check out was for 11am, but we were given an extra hour. If we needed our luggage to be held to grab a bite, the hotel would hold behind the desk. The room had a mini fridge and microwave. We also had a balcony which we did not use. Now, what could be better or different for me: The layout of the entrance is different. Enter on one level and either take the elevator or steps up to the next floor to the lobby area to check in. No vending machines, therefore no sodas/juices. The room was on the small side but we were only spending one night. There were two nightstands but only one lamp furthest away from the door. The outlets to charge phones were up on a ledge and there were no USB. The bed could have been made up better. I walked in thinking someone just got off of it. It would have been nice to have 4 pillows as opposed to 3 (2 for my husband and 2 for me). No closet, where's the closet? Just an area where the ironing board was and a couple of hangers. Desk chair: The room could have used one so that we were not sitting on the bed. Towels: They were rather thin and I would have appreciated having two hand towels as opposed to one. Bathroom door: OMG! It was so incredibly heavy. Don't wait to the last minute...lol The hotel does appear to have a modern look and does have potential. I just believe a few tweaks could have been made when designing to make it more user friendly. Again, I like the customer service but I probably would not stay here again. read more

Very unpleasant hotel experience. This hotel veils its poor quality with mismatching modern aesthetics and poor craftsmanship. The entrance to the hotel is horrible if you have a lot of luggage or anything heavy (see photos). No automatic doors and right away you're in this cramped space that makes you take a small elevator up to lobby,. Then you have to open another door to lobby. I was traveling with a lot of stuff so this was tedious. The woman at the front desk wasn't very friendly or welcoming. When I checked in I said what name the room was under and 10 seconds later she says "What's the name", like I didn't just say it. Not saying every hotel has to be bubbly and excited but she wasn't the most welcoming vibe. Also it's weird to me that the front desk is elevated so high that you can't even see the seated people working, like they're hiding from the guests and don't want you to approach. Both the lobby and my room had a weird smell to them, like overwhelming cleaning product mixed with a subtle mildew-y smell. For some reason the door to my room had the privacy latch/bolt swung open so the door to my room was already open when I first got there! Very off putting and strange. Never seen that in a hotel. My room was cold as hell with the A/C on--in November. I set the thermostat to heat but for some reason it said "HEAT STANDBY"? The heat didn't kick on really for about 10 minutes. The bathroom has an obnoxious, unnecessary heavy glass door that is cumbersome to open. I wanted to just leave it open but then it blocked the walkway to the rest of the room. Toilet paper felt like 1-ply dollar store TP. Not a lot of towels compared to most hotels. The TV was set to an obnoxious loud volume and automatically turned on at some point 15 minutes after I entered the room, which startled me. The lighting fixtures in the room are also not great. One of the bed-side lamps doesn't even turn on even when plugged in. I guess it's nice that the room had a balcony but it's not an interesting city view. Maybe the other side of the building has better view of city. Another thing that surprised me was I called the front desk to see if they had any plastic cutlery/utensils as my food delivery didn't give me any. They said it's down in lobby. I go down there and don't see any utensils by the little lounge/coffee area (which might as well be a Jiffy Lube coffee station). I asked the woman at the front desk and she said they're inside the cabinet...I go back and open the cabinet and it's literally just a big cardboard shipping box of shitty plastic forks inside -- where they store all the coffee cups/sweeteners etc. So I'm expected to grab myself, as if I work there. So unsanitary and unprofessional. I would definitely not stay at this hotel again. Horrible stench in the lobby, haphazard service and quailty. It was booked for me through a work trip. Feels like they're just using flashy interior design to seem fancy when it's the same quality as a Holiday Inn. This is overpriced for what it offers. read more

It's better than the 1* reviews would indicate, but anybody who rated this place 5* must be related to the owners. The room we had was small but clean. The lobby is spartan and uninviting. There aren't many choices to pick from in the Bushwick neighborhood. The only reason to stay here is if you want to be in that neighborhood. The streets are dirty and there are plenty of homeless about. On the plus side there is a subway stop nearby and there re restaurants and bars that yu can walk to. We were able to find a free parking space on the street, so don't waste your money on the parking lot recommended on the hotel's website. They have a rooftop bar but were looking for a $50 minimum of drinks per guest so we skipped that. There is no food available, and the person at the front desk could not even recommend anyplace for breakfast. On our own we found a nearby place called Ange Noir Cafe which is open early and serves great coffee and food. read more

Don't stay here if you value sleep and safety. Yelp removed my original review that shows the video and audio of an intoxicated woman outside my door, wanting to fight due to my complaints and the staff asking her to quiet down and not smoke marijuana, before the police arrived to escort me to a new room safely. I booked this hotel for four nights on business. Upon entering my room the floor was not vacuumed, one of the two complimentary waters had been opened, partially drank and put back, the windows had dirty hand prints all over them, there was no microwave as the Expedia description promised, the outlets and lamp by the bed did not work and the towels were not made up all cute like their photos imply; just two thrown over the towel rack in the bathroom and a stack of hand towels next to the sink. The drapes do not fully block the light from the streets and the new colored LEDs they've put on the outside of the building . You can see clear as day at night with all the blinds pulled and shoved into the corners. There is an industrial yard across the street that runs 24/7 which emits a high pitched beeping that can be heard even with ear plugs in and pillows over your head. If you have to stay here, request the side of the hotel furthest away from that. You can still hear it no matter where you are but if your room faces it, it's mind numbingly loud. There is a garbage truck that parks nightly on the street of the Industrial side. Needless to say, sitting outside is a no unless the smell of trash doesn't bother you. The doors are heavy. If any of your neighbors on the floor enter or leave the room you will know about it. There is no sleeping through it, ear plugs or not. On the 5th floor they're putting a roof top balcony which is LED lit. If you want to have any chance for sleep, don't stay on this floor. The room doors have huge floor and side gaps and let in all noise, there is no muffling of voices or commotion. Do not be deceived by the photos of the upgraded bathrooms, this place is a nightmare. The only positive thing about this place is the beds are comfortable, but do not plan to actually fall asleep on them. The front desk staff seem nice but they are complacent and apologetic. Real issues do not get dealt with and they just endlessly apologize. When I asked for the number of their manager they refused to provide it and told me I would be contacted regarding my stay. Yikes! This was a crazy hotel. Dead bugs on the wall. They stayed there the whole time. I left them to see if someone would notice. Nope. No towels. I had to ask and started declining housekeeping so we could keep our damn towels and not have to ask for them again. Broken balcony seat. Had to ask for it to be replaced because we paid for that damn balcony and I was gonna sit there! The bed had a dip in the middle and we felt like we were rolling towards each other the whole time. Not very relaxing. The door to the bathroom was a really heavy glass and I wondered how an older person was gonna open that door without assistance. There was a fire alarm the first 10 minutes we were there and we couldn't open the stairwell door because it pressurized before letting the guests out. It was scary. I'm thankful it was just a false alarm because someone smoked in their room. And the smoke. The hotel smelled like a dispensary. I smoke but my poor husband doesn't and I was afraid he was getting a contact high down the hallway! The first night we were there, I asked an employee if we could go up to their new rooftop bar. It was advertised as being open. They said no there was a private party and it was only for those right now. A little while later, fireworks started going off right in front of our room! No warning. Really amazing fireworks but right next to us and during the week at 10:30 pm. I felt bad for the people who had to work the next day. Whoever set them off just left three giant boxes in the middle of the road for cars turning right to navigate around. Super weird! There is a giant construction yard across the street that is so loud, it was almost comedic! Thank God for earplugs. Bring them. There are not many choices for hotels in Brooklyn. With that being said, I would look for another place because the service here was oddly indifferent, the construction yard was crazy loud, the room was pretty dirty, the bed, uncomfortable. read more

The hotel/motel was fine for the price. Easy free parking on streets if you have a rental car. Young people constantly smoking weed outside as it's near the art studios. Odd hotel entrance - you have to carry your luggage up stairs to the lobby - elevators don't work. We stayed in the loft which is actually located in the basement. The unit was moderately clean but could use a throughly cleaning on the floors and walls. They need floor lights as falling down the loft stairs in pitch black is an accident waiting to happen! The room had a small sink and frig for convenience. Our room and location is noisy - loft is directly below street level and cars drive by in the industrial area. The twin pull out sofa was missing back pillows and the room seemed to be missing chairs too. Sparse room. There is an iron and full ironing board in the loft which we did not use. No safe in the room. The free coffee maker in the cafe lobby was always empty ( you need to fill up with water- it's a small household coffee maker) and never any milk available for the coffee. The hotel room amenities soap and shampoo are basic. Bathroom door heavy and hard to open- poor design- bathroom shower leaks into floor. Cheap towels. read more

A pretty new hotel in Williamsburg that is accommodating and affordable. I stumbled upon this hotel through an Expedia deal and decided to take advantage of it. So here we go: Pros: - it's a modern and sophisticated look. Not rundown like most NY hotels - customer service is good and will respond quickly per requests. - has most things you need, bed, microwave, mini fridge, shower, coffee in the lobby, office space in the lobby, wifi, etc. - the hotel is near most things, coffee shop, grocery store (more like a quick mart, but it does have produce) and most importantly-- the L line. Which takes you directly to manhattan. Cons: - there are some things about the hotel and how it was put together. Like the outlets are odd, and the doors are heavy. - the rooms are small but, it's New York. All hotel rooms are tiny-- unless you're paying a massive amount for a bigger room. - it can be loud at times, like the hallway doors or traffic. But once again, it's New York. I always recommend people to bring ear plugs because it's always loud in New York. Conclusion: it's a great hotel for staying on the cheaper end since manhattan is so expensive to stay. However, I would personally recommend this place to people who have been to New York before and know how to get around the city via train. And in my opinion, I think the best and cheapest way to experience New York is by train. It's located in a great borough and has the potential to become better if management decides to improve its hotel as time passes and they gain enough profits to do so. read more

They offer thoughtful amenities and 'just enough' if you're looking for a place to just sleep and shower. However, ATM, - upon entering the lobby, you have no signage where check; climb the stairs and go into an obscure door. - the safe batteries don't work, - they offer no security / safely support for unruly very late night party shenanigans and/or physical domestic fights - fire alarms go off randomly in the middle of the night (staff chuckled at guests migrating to evacuate) - doors do not fit in the jams so they wiggle back and forth when locked - there's mold and someone elses hair in the shower drain - the spigot in the sink isn't attached to the sink and it doesn't drain. Kindly, I say the staff isn't equipped for customer service. My choice is to skip this option next time I'm in town. Choose wisely and stay safe! read more

Overall, great place exceptional service, and very clean hotel. Stayed here for three days because of the proximity to the venues that I was working at with my team. I had no issues whatsoever. Some of the other reviews just seemed to be out of hate to be honest, I've never met A friend of your staff in this area, and that to it being New York City. I can't force you not to stay at this hotel but I should have listened to the red flags from other reviewers regarding cleaniness and hopefully you can learn from my experience. Recently, I stayed over at the Nova Hotel with my wife for a concert that unfortunately we could not attend because of this incident at the beginning of our hotel stay. 30 minutes into us settling into our room, I was plagued by an odor from the bed I was resting on as my wife was getting ready for said concert. My wife came over after I asked if she smelt the same thing and to my horror she confirmed my biggest fear: the bed was stained with dry urine that had soaked through into the mattress. My wife immediately called the front desk to notify and have someone check our bedding and it took us over an hour of waiting, calling multiple times to confirm if someone was coming. For the last and final call, my wife had reiterated that if no one was coming to check-in that we'd be going to the front desk personally to address this issue, which finally prompted the representative to send someone. The attendant came with two frebreeze cans as if it was a lesser concern then it was. It was dry pee from some other guest that the previous attendants had over-looked when repressing the same sheets to the bed for us to use as if we couldn't tell. The attendant confirmed it was actual pee after I had to show him! After we went down to the front desk, I asked for a new room and compensation for the delayed response and this terrible health concern and all the staff could do for us was a "room change and for us to connect with hotel management via email" which they never responded to my email throughout my stay nor after. If you're a gambling man, go for it but 2 loses already, odds are not in our favor. read more
