    Grand Opening
    Jeff S.

We took my dad to Nova Café for Father's Day lunch because he was craving some Thai food and we wanted to try a new place. It is clean and since they just opened, it may feel a bit spartan with so much empty floor space, but the decor is simple and somewhat trendy. It was nice and quiet, with music at a low level and a TV that was showing picturesque scenery. The location is ideal and has plenty of parking available. Waze (the navigation app), actually has them located in another, smaller strip adjacent to the actual location. It's not difficult to figure out though, because they're literally within eyeshot of the place. It's currently they're "Grand Opening", but the service was great. They were very attentive and checked on us the correct amount of times. They gave us time to check the menu, got our drink orders quickly, and when I ordered appetizers prior to ordering our meals, they got on those very fast too! When the waitress came to ask if we had any questions, I said: "Is your lunch menu all-week or is there a limitation like no Sundays?" and she let me know it's an every day thing! Yay! We don't see that very often. Lunch hours are basically from open till 3PM and the lunch prices are between $11-14. Our order: Dad got Masaman Curry with chicken and fried rice. He was a bit disappointed that they didn't have any brown rice, but he finished that whole plate. He said it was good though. My sister got the Thai Basil Plate with Chicken and fried rice and she really enjoyed it. My stepmom ordered the Thai Basil Plate with Beef and steamed rice. She really enjoyed hers too. I had the Panang Chicken Curry with both steamed rice and fried rice. I wanted to check the flavor with each...and I was hungry. We also ordered some steamed Chicken Dumplings and some Fried Shrimp Shumai. Originally, I ordered them to be friend dumplings and steamed animal, but the waitress told me that the shumai (in her opinion) was better fried, so I switched them. Later, she brought out 4 extra fried dumplings. I prefer my dumplings and shuns I fried! She was right- better mouthfeel and more depth of flavor. I would've maybe preferred a ponzu sauce or plain soy sauce rather than their sweet dipping sauce, but it was good too. All of the dishes were served with some cabbage and shredded carrots that had a fake flower on top. I've seen plenty of places serve flowers with their dishes, but never faux flowers. I think they should drop those because they look OK, but they really don't need them. My stepmom also ordered some green tea, which they brought in a somewhat fancy (new age-y) teapot. I also ordered some of the Tom Yum Soup ("for 2"), a Beef Lo Mein, and a Thai Basil Plate with Chicken and fried rice to go. I tried each one after arriving home and found that the Beef Lo Mein and Thai Basil Plate were both lacking flavor for my liking. The tenderness of the chicken and beef was consistent in all the dishes, so that was a plus. The veggies were all cooked correctly and were still crispy-fresh. The noodles in the Beef Lo Mein were appropriately greasy too. The Tom Yum Soup was not very spicy, had 3 shrimp and 3 scallops, about 4 white mushrooms cut into 4ths, some red bell peppers and some onions. The soup was lackluster, not hitting the sour or spicy notes I'm familiar with for the dish, but the seafood within was tasty. Overall, I have to give this place 4 stars because the Chinese food just didn't quite hit the way it should to be awesome. The service was fantastic and the Thai food hit properly- not too spicy, not to weak, but had great flavor. I love that they offer the shumai and dumplings steamed OR fried and I'm definitely going with fried from now on. I think this place has room to grow, but they're off to a great start and they have beer and wine to make things even better. They've got their stuff together, so give them a shot!

They spent some money on this place. It is very nice. There a few touches they have added that balances some upscale touches with casualness. The menu is great with lots of options covering several different Asian cuisine types. They have a good lunch menu as well. I ended up getting the beef lo mein. It was excellent and the presentation of the dish was beautiful. The noodles were perfectly cooked. The beef was as well. The sauce coated it perfectly and had the traditional wak hai sear to it. The portion was perfect for lunch. I came in hungry and left satisfied but not overstuffed. The prices were reasonable too. The two people working there were incredibly nice. I will definitely be returning.

The food is really poor. 4 entrees and all of them mediocre and disappointing. I do not recommend this restaurant.

The food is amazing and very reasonably priced. Super good Singapore noodles for $18 when a fast food value meal is $12 after tax.

This location useds to be a "fish bowl" restaurant & the OG Thai house location was on roswell rd near a laundromat. Since the pandemic I haven't been able to go till this weekend. I was honestly so excited because I missed their food so much. I am always creature of habit so my go to dish was always Pad See U. I saw so many people at the restaurant so I had high hopes. While, the food wasn't bad. I will say it is NOT AUTHENTIC. They changed the chef and I could tell immediately by the taste of the food. This was not the same person or the same flavors. Wallet it wasn't completely terrible. I don't think I would recommend this restaurant if you're looking for Thai food specifically. I wouldn't call this a Thai house or any Thai restaurant. We ordered from the Thai menu and the Chinese menu. The general tsao's chicken was the wrong color of chicken. Usually this chicken is a darker brown color and a more richer flavor. This tasted like a really bad sesame chicken. It really lacked flavor and it was more on the sour side. Another item we ordered was pad see u, which is from the Thai Menu. The noodles when it came out, wasn't the correct color which meant it lacked the correct seasoning. The noodles Itself was so salty and no other flavor, but the eggs were so sweet. This used to be my favorite dish at the restaurant along with the Tom Yum soup. It was from eating the soup. I knew the chef was not cooking Thai cuisine. While it didn't taste bad it also wasn't good. I ordered Tom Yum, but I got a soup that tasted like Gaeng Nor Mai Som. Which is a soup from Laos. Which has Tamarid in it. I could definitely taste that tamarin flavor. Well, Tom yum is a little bit sour. It's from lime juice. Tamarid just has such a distinct flavor, which I don't hate, but that's not what I ordered. Out of curiosity, we asked the server where the chef was from. The chef was from Laos. Again, I have nothing against Laos cuisine. I actually quite enjoy laos cuisine it except it wasn't what I wanted to eat. I wanted Thai food! The chef didn't have to be from Thailand. They just needed to cook proper Thai food. And obviously Chinese food because that was low-key worse than panda express. It was my fault for ordering samosas at a "Thai" restaurant, but my mom wanted samosas. I don't think I need to explain the authenticity because they don't even look like traditional Samosa, But my mom did enjoy it. The spring rolls were edible, but they weren't spring roll filling. It was more like an eggroll filling. There was just straight up, cabbage in it. Normally eggrolls, have cabbage and pork. Spring rolls have veggie and sometimes the glass noodles and carrots. This was a big bite of fried cabbage rolls in my opinion. If you're looking for a Asian restaurant with an identity crisis, this is a great place to go to! The only thing authentically Thai was the Thai tea. Would I come back here again probably not but like I said it wasn't terrible. Just It just wasn't authentic or even remotely close to the original flavor this restaurant had.

I didn't pick up on that until I ordered my lunch entree and was asked what soup I wanted. When I said Tom Kha, the server said the choices were hot and sour, egg drop or wonton. I leaned in on the menu at that point. The food was not Thai in the traditional sense but was edible. An average meal. The servers were spot on and there was steady traffic during the lunch hour. I order my meal and a couple of take out choices for the family.

5/5 Wimal Authentic Thai…read moreIn town for a work trip, I stopped by Wimal Authentic Thai for some chicken fried rice and spring rolls. The location is in a decent enough spot, but I'd definitely recommend locking your car doors just to be safe. The restaurant is pretty small inside, so I went with a pickup order instead. The food was made with fresh ingredients, and the chicken fried rice was solid -- nothing mind-blowing, but a good baseline Thai-style version. The portions were average, and the spring rolls were decent too. Price-wise, it was pretty standard -- not too expensive, not a steal either. Overall, it was exactly what I ordered and expected. Would I go back? Probably if there weren't better options nearby. I did try a couple other Thai spots in the area that gave bigger portions, better value, and noticeably tastier food. But if Wimal is your most convenient choice, it'll get the job done.
