Great wines, fun people. Did 5 wine tasting flight at Pairings in downtown Pleasanton. The individuals hosting the tasting were gregarious and happy to talk about their wines and why they loved them. My personal preference was for the Russian river Sauvignon Blanc, but that may have been influenced by how hot the day was (105 and sipping wine on the outdoor patio). The Oak Knoll Syrah was also nice, but too much for a hot day. I'm curious to visit their Livermore location after this event! read more

This wine tasting room is a very small space. There is enough room for approximately 10 to 15 people in the tasting room. but much less seating. We had a very knowledgeable sommelier pouring us wine and they are not afraid to give you a fair tasting portion size. I can say that they do have some delicious wine! Besides the tasting room, there is an area outside of the tasting room where you can have a table for your group. We sat between the tasting room and the small kitchen next-door to them and enjoyed some food while we had our wine. They all seem to work together well. read more

What a hidden gem! We have been wine tasting in Livermore for years and stopped in here for the first time. I'm so happy we did! We had the pleasure of meeting Lloyd and Mike and they were both so welcoming! Lloyd took great care in explaining the different wines and even poured us a few that were off the tasting menu. Let me just say that the wines were absolutely wonderful. Some of the best we have tried in quite some time. We purchased a 3 pack that had a rose, a Sauvignon Blanc and a wonderful red blend. I cannot say enough good things about this winery and I cannot wait to come back on our next trip to the Bay Area. They featured both Rhône & Bordeaux varietals and all were done true to varietal. A bit much oak for my personal every-day tasting pleasure but I recognize my palate does not always match the crowd. They've been busy every time I've been there & yet the service has remained attentive & informed-they staff for guest satisfaction. **Pro tip: Winemakers Colin Cranor & (sp?) Craig Plouf have a side label available for purchase on request. Typicite is all 100% Pinot Noir and Riesling and always from top tier single vineyards like Tondre Grapefield in Santa Lucia. I think I had been here before but couldn't remember anything significant. I'm glad we stopped by here on Sunday though because I was very impressed with their wines. You can choose from 2 flights and I think they were the same price. We sat at the table in the back and the nice tasting room associate came to out from behind the bar to pour each wine for us. Jen and Jeremy leave a 5 star impression. The service was very friendly and nice. We dint quite enjoy the wines so much but that's just probably coz we just have a different taste in wines. We would have still gotten a bottle or two if not for the 50 dollar price tag on most of them.. I think that's a bit too overpriced for a winery. We also had the Napa nachos from them which was chips with cheese and pepper... pretty good and different. After leaving Darcie Kent, and with the Nottingham Viognier & Awakening GSM Blend listed as two of the 12 wines one must try from Livermore now, I stopped in at this small tasting room in an industrial complex housing two other wineries. And I will start by saying at least from the service side, my review might be a bit unfair. It was a Saturday afternoon, it is a small room, and they were completely slammed. When I was arrived I was told it might be best to sit outside and they would come serve me. After receiving two pours in about 25 minutes, and with the clock ticking because so many wineries in this area close at 4:30, I just walked back in to the tasting room and stood behind the newbies bogarting the bar space and elbowed my way to get my own tastes from the bar staff. So service wise, they were not prepared for a larger crowd. But, they seemed nice, just overwhelmed and not pretentious about the experience like say, wait for it, wait for it...the Winery That Shall Not Be Named was almost one year ago :) Hey, I knew my 8 readers expected a Clos La Chance reference at some point ;) Sadly, the wines were completely overrated especially the one dimensional unbalanced reds. The Awakenings at $40 and the Cabs at around $50 were not very good, the second worst group of reds (Cerruti Cellars you are in a class by yourself) that I had in my Oakland/Livermore wine excursions. The funny part was sitting outside, no dump bucket!! I couldn't spit or dump. I just knew I couldn't swallow this swill so what do I do? Spit in the plants? Go towards a gutter? Walk inside and maybe risk actually drinking this wine if I do not get to a dump bucket with a full house? I finally found a trash can to send my wine to. Of course wine is completely subjective and your mileage may vary. With an almost 5 star Yelp rating, your experience here might be different than mine. There is a tasting fee and they do not refund with purchase. However, they were so busy that I just left my glass and walked five feet to Occasio next door. I figured if they wanted to hunt me down to charge me for a mediocre tasting experience that took well over 30 minutes for five lousy tastes, well they knew where to find me. read more

Came for a tasting per the recommendation of another winery nearby, but the wines were rather disappointing. The reds were of "daily wine" caliber yet at a considerable price bump and the flagship "Supremacy" Bordeaux blend was totally out of balance and overly tannic. Additionally, these wines as part of the reserve flight came at a hefty $20/person given the region and were hardly worth the money. The tasting room itself was casual and pretty welcoming, just a bit impersonal and touristy in feel. I've been to several wineries in the Livermore valley as well as in Napa, however this one always has me coming back for more. Coming from the east bay, the location is wonderful for an afternoon get away. Their prices are very reasonable and the wines are sensational. But the main star here is their wonderful staff. They are extremely hospitable and provide a very warm and "homey" atmosphere. Where else can you talk with the owner, the winemaker and the grower in one conversation. They all go out of their way to greet you and make sure your glass is never empty. Everyone is so nice and the atmosphere is welcoming, time and time again. I also like their wine. It pairs nicely with a wide variety of food. I took a bottle of Grenache home for Thanksgiving and it was a hit! I also am on a quest to find amazing Malbec's, Nottingham doesn't disappoint! There are two tastings, if you are with a partner I recommend getting a tasting of each. If it's just one person, I'd spring for the tasting with the higher fee, I think it's the winemaker flight. I was a little worried when we first walked in because it felt a little cold and corporate, but quickly learned that my first impression was just completely off. David helped us out for the day and he was just simply the best. He knew everything about the wines and went above and beyond to make sure we felt welcome and had a great experience. We ended up having to take home a few of their bottles because we liked them so much! The 2014 Smith Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon is the finest Livermore cab I've ever tried. Personally, I think it's better than Wente's Nth Degree cab, and it's half the price. Really enjoyed both the tasting room and the overall experience at Nottingham Cellars. While it's not directly located on a vineyard, the space itself is beautiful once you step inside. It's very clear that they really thought about the brand in the ambiance and decor, and I really feel like it elevated the experience. They offer two different flights, a $10 flight with some of their main stays (like their award winning sauvignon blanc, which was excellent) and a premium flight for $20. We opted for the $10 flight (which gets discounted from any bottles you purchase) because it seemed to have selections that we were more interested in. Our host David was knowledgeable, prompt with pours, and very friendly which we definitely appreciated. Other guests were friendly and talkative as well, and the tasting room seemed to be dog friendly (we had the sweetest golden retriever visit our table) which was right up our alley. I definitely enjoyed all of their wines quite a bit and ended up taking home their Grenache Rose as well as a bottle of one of their blends. Price for value at this winery is definitely there if you're looking for bottles ~$30, but they also had some premium bottles as well that started north of $40 which I also thought were a good value based on the few we were able to taste. read more

After having a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon from Nottingham a couple years ago in San Francisco I wanted to come to this tasting room. On this outing we brought our dog Bella. We came right into a busy tasting room. My husband, Bella and I were greeted in a friendly prompt manner by David who was to be our host. We had a great experience and we would highly recommend this tasting room. I'm a big fan of Grenache we walked away with a bottle and it's the wine I drank on New year's Eve! Large comfortable tasting area. We tried two whites, which were both fine- not outstanding, but good. We were trying the cheaper wines- and the merlot was very good (38 dollars, perhaps?). It was the wine that really stood out to me. I can't say I was tempted to buy any of the other wines. The pourers are knowledgeable and helpful, and if you like tasting a lot of different wines, they certainly have a large selection. I don't know if you can taste the reserve wines- but they do have some. They may be more interesting wines than the ones we tasted. read more

Nottingham It is hard to tell if the Casa de Viñas fruit has made Nottingham cellars what they are today, or the other way around. What is clear, is that this alliance is the most exciting partnership in Livermore. With no school training, Collin Cranor chef de cave at Nottingham Cellars, applies all his collective knowledge gathered from the best of the valley directly into his wines. He confesses that once you make a good wine, it is hard not to fall into a process, but he does experiment with different batches every year. His signature wine Supremacy, is always among my top 3 wines of the year. His GSM is more earthy than jammy, and reminds me of a Volnay or Pommard (but ripper of course). Stop 4 of 6 on our wine tasting tour of Livermore. Here's all you need to know about Nottingham Cellars: They played dubstep in the tasting room while we were there. Yes, dubstep. There are very few situations in which I want to hear dubstep, and when I'm wine tasting is not one of them. Nottingham is super weird on the inside. All of the walls are painted a dark gray color and they are all bare except for one wall in the back that has like 6 paintings crammed onto it (which further highlights the sparseness of the rest of the room). There was also an unusually large amount of electrical outlets in the room. Other people clearly noticed this too as one girl was sitting on the floor charging her phone. When we entered, one of the staff members took my credit card, and said she would bring it out to me after running it. She didn't bring it out for five minutes though, which made me feel uncomfortable. Of course, that five minutes felt even longer because my ear drums were being bombarded with robot sounds and bass drops. The wines were okay, although there was nothing that I really wanted more of. My group and I just gathered up our things quickly and got out before we would have to endure any more Skrillex. read more

I'm not sure how this place has 4 1/2 stars because the wine to me wasn't that good especially the last tasting on the regular menu which I believe was a Syrah !? The only reason I gave 3 stars is because of the young wine maker and the cook dispensers of crackers to cleans your pallets as you're drinking. Best wine tasting venue in Livermore. They provide 5 tastings that are all wonderful and very different. I really loved the petite syrah and their GSM blend of 4 different wines that was amazing. Also, the wine crackers were a nice touch. Ask for Matthew on Sundays, he's great. Also, ask for a quick tour of the back and you'll see the barrels and kegs and learn about the process to make them.
