Unconventional in every way, Nutsouh has been one of my favorite venues in the city. Founded 30 years ago by local artists Jim Pirtle and Missy Bosch, it got its start as a coffee shop before becoming a site for art installations and live entertainment. The name is simply "Houston" spelled backwards. The decor is quirky, eclectic and goes hard on the taxidermy. There are all kinds of animals from land-based to sea creations in all kinds of positions, along with very unique art and ambiance to explore. The multi-room layout makes the place a fun spot to explore and check out the different levels. The darkly lit ambiance makes it a bit hard for photographs, but it is no less a dizzying and fascinating space. My favorite part of the entire place is on third floor, where there is a sound dome that doubles as a visualizer, a communal space, and a trippy acoustics wonderland where music can be played via bluetooth and tourists and locals would enjoy it. The sound system is excellent and a perfect place to chill out. There's more than just sensory overload, the drinks also deserve a bit of mention. The jalapeño palomas and hibiscus mules are fun, despite feeling a tinge overpriced. Bartenders are nice people, and service as a whole is a thumbs up. The parking situation will be challenging, since this is Downtown proper. Street parking is available just down the block, and if one can avoid the crowded weekends, the weeknights are an ideal time to visit. It's hard not to be impressed with the distinctiveness of the place, which is truly one of the city's great local favorites. read more

If you like weird& quirky antiques, lots of different rooms on separate floors, and a laid-back, inclusive vibe, you'll love this place. It is definitely a place worth visiting just to learn the history. They also have art studios on the third floor that are open to view and purchase. If ya know, ya know. But what I didn't know about notsuoh was their third floor sound dome. You can connect to its bluetooth and play music from your phone. We spent a good hour in there jammin' out and dancing. It's unfortunate that I often forget about this local gem until I'm entertaining out-of-towners. Yes, it's very dusty and you might need allergy meds that same night, but it's an iconic Houston dive that offers a lil something for everyone: craft cocktails, live music, lounge seating, speakeasy-esque rooms, quirky art, and a lot of nostalgia. read more

It's hard to explain Nostuouh. If you know, you know :) it's an art bar but sort of gives off an abandoned antique store vibe. Lots to see and you can easily spend hours here. The drinks are delicious and then you have floors and many rooms to explore. They have a sky dome upstairs that looked super cool but there were people in there on a date, so we didn't want to intrude. We got a little lost trying to get out but made it! :) read more

Well walking up to the bar I thought it might be kinda small upon entering and exploring its quite spacious and has multiple rooms to chill with friends. The service was great the bartender were friendly made me feel welcomed music is chill kind of a emo vibe but I don't mind that at all over all 10/10 bar. read more

They had a typical drinks with a cocktail menu. Things are a little more pricey though. In order to get onto the top floors, you have to buy a drink. The upper floors were very very cool though. There is a lot of sitting areas and private rooms from the main area. The only hard part is that there was a band playing so it was REALLY hard to hear. read more

We stayed downtown near here and our bartender referred this bar to us. It didnt disappoint! The bartender poured heavy and they were cool. Not packed on a Sunday night late night, but we got what we needed. There's also an upstairs where they said we could've Bluetoothed our phones to play music, but we stayed downstairs. Next visited we'll check out the upstairs bar/vibe. read more

This has to be one of the most unique bars in Houston. Last time I was here was way back in 2011 when they were a hidden after hours club that you went to through the side stairway up to the 3rd floor where it look like Buffalo Bill's underground layer. Seriously, in the following years if I had the wrong thing to eat before bed, I would have nightmares about that attic! Nowadays it's a finished bar with furniture and bartenders and music and it has a lot of unique decor. You come through the front door now and if you have a drink you can go to the 2nd floor and from there to the 3rd floor attic which still kind of looks like the old nightmare days but has some cool stuff like a dome you go into and lots of little nooks and crannies. read more

i love this bar! its downtown, so parking isnt great at all. grab a well made craft cocktail downstairs, and let the fun begin. theres 3 floors of rooms, art, and interactive items to explore. it reminds me of coney island so much! they even host burlesque shows here! theres so much to see, read, and learn. my favorite part was the soundproof room upstairs, it basically looks like a big moon room that you can lounge in, listen to music and have a drink with friends. i highly suggest coming here, because its one of the most unique and fun bars ive been to. the staff is incredibly friendly and down to earth too. read more

This is a cool art bar in downtown Houston, apparently combined with Clarks clothing store, kinda weird but maybe that's what they're going for. By the way, I asked an employee and he said they never do live music here. So any info or pics you see wIth live performances are old and outdated (or this employee doesn't know what he's talking about). I'd come here for the art alone. It's a mixture of sculptures and paintings, and quirky and random decor, that create this captivating space. Lots of animals, decorative lamps, creepy masks, games, and probably a lot more I didn't see upstairs (a sign said you have to preorder drinks to go upstairs, and we were done drinking for the night by the time we saw that). I think it's a weird policy to have, in order to go to upstairs, but again, this is a very unusual spot. The bartender was friendly, and drinks were good. And though there was hardly any seating when we arrived around 11pm, we snagged a couple bar seats. And when we left, prior to midnight, strangely the seats throughout the venue had opened up, while the area near the bar was more crowded with people just standing around having conversation. Overall, I like the vibe here and would definitely return if ever in Houston again, and maybe check out the upper level next time. read more

Not sure why anyone would make a negative review. This place is the eclectic and a gem of Houston. When you think you have explored the place, there is more. There is a downstairs bar... then you walk upstairs to another bar (I enjoyed the downstairs bar more personally), and you can explore many levels. Each room has something more unique. Lots of taxidermy which I think is awesome. I am a huge fan of the entire aesthetic. I drank a whiskey sour at both the downstairs and upstairs bar. My boyfriend drank a Gin Ricky and it was super tasty as well. They have cider, seltzers, beer, and full bar. We didn't wait long at the bar to order a drink so the service is pretty quick. My party came on a Friday night around midnight, it was busy but we still got quick service. read more

One of the most eclectic bars in Houston, Notsuoh stands as a downtown relic, a place that remains more underground and off the radar off the beaten path of downtown bars. I've been visiting off and on for over ten years. The decor is ever changing yet always funky. Once upon a time they had shows here, and chess was prominently featured. The shows are now gone. The bar is small and simplistic, a bit lacking in offerings, but I don't mind. There's three stories to explore, the top floor being the most impressive. The sound dome is the centerpiece here, with Bluetooth speakers in place so one can chill to their own playlist and enjoy the starry visuals. The various mishmash of decor and furniture creates a fun divey chill vibe. I enjoy the multiple patio spaces, especially the one on the top floor since it is only accessible by patrons. Back in the day they were known for their after hours activities, though I never partook. Sounded like a good time though. read more

Yes, this bar is dusty. Yes, service can be slow. But do I still love this place? Yes. I love finding spots that breed uniqueness in Houston. This feels like a place you'd find in Brooklyn. Always surprised by the number of people I run into who don't make it to the upper levels. read more

Urban labyrinth trippy dive bar. If you ever wonder what gaudy looks like outside of cultural mainstream, come here. It's not bright and lurid gaudy like your auntie's broaches but showy and tasteless nonetheless. Materials everywhere that could be appealing if it weren't for all the dust collecting on them. Like, really really dusty, yuck. But A+ for effort and sheer size of collection if suspending judgement and some taste. As if Hoarder's & Storage Wars had a baby: a themeless hodgepodge bearing funk & junk. One woman's trash, another woman's treasure is the outlook to have over drinks. Careful of some creepy corners and unstable flooring or furniture, but do make your way through all the upper levels. That said, service has always been exceptional in my experience. I like that they have multiple floors and each have a slightly different tone. Favorite new bar in Houston!! The outside says Clarks, but on google maps type in notsuoh (Houston spelled backwards) to find it. Very eclectic and artsy, must buy a drink to go upstairs! The two upper floors were my favorite part, there's many levels and rooms with art, mannequins, and random junk. The owner actually lives in one area of it (behind the sign that says private, don't enter). My favorite part was the sound dome on the third floor where people's voices vibrate and echo in it, very trippy experience. Only downside was that the drinks are a bit expensive and the bartender wasn't friendly, she added the tip for us and we couldn't pick how much we wanted to tip, there was no option to go back and choose either.
