Coffee menu

Corner spot, pretty busy during the day and for a good reason. "Not just bagels" indeed, pastries, coffee and sandwiches to order, quite a large selection of items. Take your time to figure out what you'd like as there are many options and you can mix and match pretty much everything. They also have a lot of seasonal items for most holidays. Highly recommend. Will be back few times while I'm here.

Cream cheese tray (scallion, lox, plain, cinnamon)

I needed to cater a breakfast and was kindly assisted by Danielle who helped me go over the menu and placed my order. I was able to place my order in less than 24 hours and this was very helpful. The prices are budget friendly and the food is fresh. For some reason I assumed the bagel tray came with cinnamon or blueberry bagels but it's more on the savory side. All in all, the office enjoyed everything down to the cream cheese tray.

Dairy just sitting out in a hot environment.

STARBUCKS WHO?! The Best Bagel Spot You Are Entirely Ignoring in the "Forgotten Borough."…read more Let's be honest for a second. We live in Staten Island. We know good food, but we also get set in our ways. We walk the same blocks, we drive the same avenues, and we mindlessly queue up in corporate drive-thrus for burnt espresso (or food) because it's "convenient." Well, I am here to officially staging an intervention. Two weeks ago, I was walking past the Dollar General, completely blind to my surroundings, zombie-walking my way back toward Starbucks. That is when I saw the sign for Poppy Seed Bagels. After a local native whispered absolute prophecies into my ear about a mythical "French Toast Bagel with Cannoli Cream Cheese," I knew I had to make the pilgrimage. I have lived here for almost a year. Why did none of you tell me about this place? Seriously, I need answers. Are we hoarding the carb secrets now?? Like c'mon, f'real???? lol The Vibe: Small Footprint, Massive Inventory. When you first walk in, the shop presents itself on a smaller scale, but every square inch serves a distinct, glorious purpose. To your left, an absolute wall of refrigerators spans the room. They have every liquid refreshment known to mankind: cold brews, espressos, energy drinks, sodas, and teas. If you can drink it, they have it chilled. The Ultimate Coffee Loophole As a "self-proclaimed" coffee fanatic, this is where I nearly lost my mind. You pay for a coffee. Just a coffee. And then? You pick whatever size you want. Let me repeat that for the people in the back. You pay one flat rate and you can walk away with a large. (like whaaaat?) We are strictly not talking Starbucks vibes here, nope--no siree. Then you hit the mixing station. I am a French Vanilla creamer devotee, and they had an entire lineup of premium flavored creamers, flavored shots (hazelnut, etc.), and a shaker of freshly ground cinnamon powder. *YUP* Shaking real cinnamon into a piping hot, perfectly brewed coffee felt less like a morning routine and more like a religious experience. Was I awake? Was I dreaming? Was I in coffee heaven? It felt way too magical to be in the "Forgotten Borough." The Main Event: The "Perfect Bagel" Look, I went in with one mission: get the French Toast bagel. Naturally, because the universe loves a plot twist, they were fresh out. The neighborhood hype is real, and the early birds caught the worm. Undeterred, I pivoted. I ordered a perfectly toasted sesame bagel slapped with that famous cannoli cream cheese. I snapped a picture, texted it to a friend, and captioned it: "The perfect bagel." Mind you, this wasn't even the French Toast flavor I came for! If a backup option can elicit that level of emotional texting, that alone speaks volumes. The bagel had that flawless crunch on the outside, a soft, pillowy pull on the inside, and the cannoli cream cheese--an absolute, pure, unadulterated delight. Sweet, creamy, and decadent. So delicious. While sitting there in a literal cloud of French vanilla, cinnamon, and sesame bliss, I watched the digital menu monitors loop videos of their special custom creations. Lox bagels, hot pastrami builds, and wild culinary concoctions that had me salivating mid-chew. I am already scheduling my next trip back specifically for the French Toast and, yeah, maybe the pastrami too. Why, not! Hospitality That Hits Different: A restaurant can have great food, but small businesses win our/my heart. The staff here is exceptional. The girls at the counter were incredibly welcoming and helpful. Furthermore, a tall gentleman who was busily cleaning the tables noticed that I have some trouble walking. Without me even asking, he took it upon himself to go up to the counter, grab my food, and bring it directly to my table. There are only a few tables inside, but that simple, proactive act of kindness transformed a quick breakfast into a memorable dining experience. The Verdict: Whenever I am in the area again and have to choose between corporate green-apron coffee or this local masterpiece? Ahem--excuse me---Starbucks who? This will now be my go to spot. I am a massive supporter of small businesses, and Poppy Seed Bagels is doing everything right. Hello---stop gatekeeping this place! People just got to know! :-) So... Go... Go support them, buy a giant coffee for the price of a small, and pray they have the French Toast bagel waiting for you---if that's your thing or not. ;-)

Good for a local spot. Great pricing. While I think the…read morebagels are good, sandwiches are great. They definitely add a good amount of toppings. I just find the setup for the bagels odd. They're using aluminum trays, which I'm assuming get reused bc they're all bent out of shape. So, for this reason(and one more below) I've given 3, instead of 4 stars. My kids do love the sandwiches, and an added bonus are the chips of your choice. Okay, so a while back, when they first opened up, I ordered a salad with grilled chicken. Being on a health journey, I was looking forward to a delicious salad. Unfortunately, they did not knock it out of the park. The chicken is seasoned weird. I really couldn't put my finger on it, not sure if it's cumin or something else, but it had this weird flavor that I do not want at all on grilled chicken. I don't even think it's cumin, I'm really not sure: I haven't ordered a salad since, or a chicken sandwich, bc I couldn't accept that flavor in my mouth honestly, I'm being nice here BTW. To make it worse, there was a hair in my salad. If it wasn't for my family, I would've stopped getting food here. They convinced me to give them a try again. Glad I did, I may even consider trying the chicken again, but will be extremely disappointed if it tastes the same lol Either way, this is a good spot for bagels and sandwiches. Just hoping they will get some normal trays for bagels. It'll make the place look more clean, professional and overall aesthetically pleasing. The staff is super nice, really helpful, friendly, and informative.

Stopped by here because they are famous for their chopped cheese sandwiches…read more I ordered about 6 different ones. They were all good. Place is really small I think they need to figure out a waiting place for customers and the use of a bathroom when waiting. How don't you have a bathroom for customers to use. Went to this place after getting off the road all the way from Westchester with my elderly mother…read morebecause she wanted eggplant Parmesan and she had eaten from this place before when a relative was staying at a hospital rehabilitation center nearby and remembered the food being good, so we went to have some lunch. We were seated in the outdoor area, which is nice on a humid day as You can get a decent breeze. 99% of the people who were there were just enjoying their their food and socializing, We decided to sit at a table near a window for whatever reason there was a gentleman at this table who decided that it was okay for him to vape while he was sitting down instead of exiting the restaurant. Not only did he decide that it was okay to vape, he decided that it was okay to blow his vapors onto my mother's head and engulf us in his gaping experience. Instead of noticing (full time hostess in the immediate area), automatically reseating us, apologizing and telling the man that is NOT okay to vape in the restaurant I had to flag a server down and let them know that we wanted a different table. Pretty good service but I really thought that that was a gross oversight on part of the restaurant like indoor smoking is illegal in the first place and vaping really isn't any better (arguably worse depending on what scientific data you're looking at), plenty people have respiratory issues and just preference period. No one should be forced to sit anywhere where a no vaping policy isn't being enforced in 2026. Really disappointed that I can't give this place a higher than a three star rating as a result because the food is pretty good and the servers were quick and pleasant, but the smoking issue to me is a gross oversight as far as basic customer service goes. People shouldn't be made to feel like they're being weird for wanting a different table because they don't want to be surrounded by anything but oxygen, Do better folks. Tried to call and speak with a manager BEFORE leaving this review, was left on hold for close to 10 mins however manager was extremely apologetic and pretty appalled he personally stated that vaping IS against their policy and that the staff should have absolutely been enforcing that. Welp, that's what complaints are for right? Food is decent and staff is respectful but I don't know if I'd go back given that experience if I have alternative choices in the area just trying to enjoy some lunch, drama and discomfort is not necessary indoor vaping is outlawed for a reason people violating that shouldn't get to just go about their day with zero consequences while everyone else is annoyed or having their lung / cardiovascular health put at risk involuntarily. YMMV
