My mother stayed at Norwood Crossing for 3 months while she recovered from a spinal fusion. All of the doctors, nurses, therapists, and staff were very nice. The facilities were clean and easy to find parking at. There is a ton of extracurricular activities for the guests and residents too, such as gardening, painting, and movie nights. The food was standard, but there are also separate restaurants that offer food that's a little more high end. The only reason I gave 4 instead of 5 stars were because the rehabilitation bedrooms are a little dark and drab. And we also ran into one transport issue trying to bring my mom to Presence for a doctors appointment. She was late getting to the hospital and the nursing home claimed she was stuck in traffic. However, because I track my mother, I knew she had yet to leave the nursing home. I was disappointed that they lied instead of just saying that they forgot about her. Other than that, I would recommend touring the facility yourself to see if it's the right fit for your elder. In comparison to other nearby facilities, we were pleased and would send our parents back there for a stay if need be without hesitation. read more

New management let so many people go. They are so so shortstaffed it's not funny. Quality of care has gone down because of lack of people. They brought all new staff in and let go of some really great people without even knowing what they did. They let go of all agency people to save money yet that left them so short on staff in every area, this should have been phased out instead. Prices are rising yet quality is falling. Everybody in the neighborhood has known somebody that has been here and has always recommended the place but not anymore. read more

I got admitted to Norwood Crossing on a Friday To do Physical Therapy because I couldn't walk so getting admitted on Friday I didn't get any Physical Therapy until Monday and on Wednesday was Told I had to leave on Thursday giving me only 3 Days of physical therapy They said that I could walk a 100 yards without help which was a lie even The Therapist said I wouldn't be leaving on Thursday The floor they had me on wasn't to clean either and you could press the button for help and it would take some time for someone to help you So this is why I don't recommend NORWOOD CROSSING read more

In trying to find the best fit for my mother I contacted this facility. The person that called me back made me feel as if all they care about is for someone's financials rather than care. Based on how this person made me feel there is NO WAY that I would consider this nursing home. When I realized that I could no longer care for my parents, I went searching for a reputable nursing home. I gathered recommendations, and then did the homework. Most of what I discovered was disheartening. Violations were rife, and inspections turned up a number of problems which I considered to be bad enough to disqualify the homes in question. In the end I made a list of three possible places, spoke to their admissions people on the phone and went in for tours. Norwood Crossing was by far the best place I visited. It was not only clean but even on the memory support floor where one would imagine that a reminiscent odor of urine or feces would be almost a standard problem, there was nothing but a fresh, non-antiseptic smell. The food was excellent and rather plain, and the staff seemed very involved. The few staff members I spoke to on that visit were all long-timers which I felt spoke well of the way they were treated. And one thing which impressed me tremendously was that the admissions director not only knew the name of every resident she met, but details of their lives. She would ask after their children or grandchildren, often by name, and always had a moment to spend with them and a kind word. When I chose Norwood Crossing, I did one of the best things I could ever have done for my parents. The level of attention was remarkable, and I learned that the majority of the workers there knew the names of every resident! In the two + years between the time my parents entered the home to the day my mother died, I was satisfied that they could not have had better, kinder care from anyone save family. I am so grateful to the staff of Norwood Crossing for all they have done for my family, and I recommend the home very highly. read more

I recently was a patient in Norwood Crossing after surgery. The skilled nursing unit is very seriously understaffed. This is not the old Norwood Crossing that had such a good reputation. The physical plant has been allowed to deteriorate and not kept up. I stayed less than 24 hours and asked my family to come and get me. It appears the administration has decided to fill every bed regardless of the ability to provide services. If you are considering this place for anyone please visit it, look in the corners, and ask hard questions about staffing. I would never recommend putting anyone there. read more

My sister and I have just placed our mom at Norwood Crossing. We have had a wonderful experience so far. My mother was a very (VERY) independent woman all of her life. She can and will be difficult at times. So far the staff has been very kind and friendly to her. They have sought her out to introduce themselves and they are making plans for her care and activities now. My sister and I will visit mom at least once per week if not more. I hear that this makes for better care overall too. When we first walked in to Norwood Crossing it felt and looked like we were walking into a five star hotel. It is only day three but so far I am very optimistic. Thank you to the staff at Norwood Crossing for making this as easy a transition as possible for our mom. Update 8/2012. Mom is settling in and is much happier. Bingo is a blast at cocktail hour. (Seriously I'm booking my room early) The arts programs and restaurants are all very nice and most of the residents are too. The nurses call about every little thing, I love that and wouldn't want it any other way. They are really tuned in to their residents. read more

We recently took a tour of Norwood Crossing and my review here covers two aspects: Memory care unit and skilled nursing (which gets poor reviews from Medicare). 1. MEMORY CARE The residents and unit appeared clean and organized. But, the place really stunk of potpourri, which leads me to believe they were trying to cover up other unpleasant smells. We have visited other memory care units that are truly clean and odor free without the use of air fresheners. Staff seemed friendly (at least while we were there.) The list of activities was not very impressive. I don't think they truly understand how to engage this population. The part that we really didn't like was that at night time they only have one CNA for 20 residents. The physical location of this unit is very cordoned off from the rest of the building. If there were an emergency with a resident that required more than two helping hands, I'd worry about getting other CNAs or nurses down there to help quickly enough. 2. SKILLED NURSING Wheelchairs, carts, cleaning supplies, all lined up in the hallway. We felt like we were walking an obstacle course that was surely a tripping hazard and could not be up to code. It smelled bad. There were people just sitting in the hallways doing nothing. I had no sense that people were being engaged there as much as they were just being fed and physically managed. When we got home we looked Norwood's skilled nursing up on Medicare.gov. Their overall rating is 4 out of 5 stars. This broke down into 4 stars for health inspection; 3 stars for nursing staff; and 3 stars for quality of care. I just got a follow up call from our very nice tour guide. She asked if were interested and I said no, because we wouldn't put my loved one anywhere that had such low Medicare ratings. She said, "We have a 5-star rating, the highest you can get!" (Their website says this too.) I got online on the phone and read to her the ratings from Medicare, their dates, and recent violations. She sounded stunned and said she would have to talk to her executive director about it to understand what is going on. I cannot recommend highly enough to anyone looking at an elder care facility to look up their ratings on Medicare.gov. It is incredibly detailed and very eye opening. read more

Facility just reopened to visiting indoors post-COVID. In the year since we had been there we had forgotten how appallingly rude its chief receptionist Elise is to visitors and her coworkers. Witnessed and experienced her childish and unprofessional behavior several times in years past. Have complained about how she treated us, have heard from other families they have complained too. But management fails to curb her or move her to a position where she doesn't have contact with visitors. Based on her alone we would never recommend Norwood Crossing. If her behavior is considered acceptable, we must question what behavior they allow the staff that work with vulnerable patients to engage in when families are not there. read more

My mother was admitted to Norwood Crossing in pretty decent shape on a Friday during the Coronavirus quarantine. She needed a couple of months of rehab to be able to stand on her own. By Monday she was a completely different person. When we would speak with her she would be in tears due to back pain because nursing hadn't bothered to get her out of the bed since she arrived. She was so weak that she couldn't even hold a fork to eat her meals and not one cna or nurse bothered to make sure she was eating. After 3 days of literally being starved we finally were able to have her transferred back to the hospital where she had to be readmitted due to their negligence. This place is horrible and should be investigated for severe neglect. read more

My mother has been in this facility for the last two years and we always are kep abreast of her care. I receive calls from the staff if there are any issues. There are plenty of activities for the residents and the food is good and my mother is generally hard to please. read more

Very disappointed with the rehab care floor. The physical therapy staff is very good, attentive and knowledgable. The nursing staff is severely lacking. Many times my mother has been left in her bed soaked, from clothing to bedding. We are present a good part of everyday so I can only imagine what goes on with the residents who's family is not able to visit often. The rehab rooms are dark and depressing. Windows are old, do not function properly, if at all. And the screens are filthy. Very dated decor and equipment. Only one tv per room and if you do not share the same viewing options with your roommate not a good restful environment. Was looking into long term care at this facility but now looking into other options. read more

My Mom has been here almost a year and it has been a blessing to her. I visit her once or twice a week and she receives outstanding care. The staff and nurses are outstanding and always helpful The house Doctor returns phone calls and is genuinely concerned about his patients. The food is great and I have ate at both of the wonderful restaurants. This is a happy and positive place and there are many activities for the residents. The place is spotless and smells good. If you have to choose a retirement/rehab facility for a loved one I would definitely recommend Norwood Crossings. The staff here is compassionate and caring. My mom is at Norwood in their skilled nursing. It is mediocre. I think it is understaffed and the people they hire do not care about the residents/patients. They let people call and yell for help and ignore them. The food is not good. If you are not there all the time, they do not treat your family members well. You do not get what you pay for as far as care and the nursing staff is all about charging you more for things than what they actually provide. This was the second time my dad received rehab via Norwood Crossing. The last time he was here was 3 years ago. Couldn't say enough for Norwood Crossing 3 years ago! As far as this past time, it doesn't seem like the same place!!! A lot of the staff that were there 3 years ago, in 08', are no longer there. While my father was there recently, he acquired C. Dif, which most likely has to do with poor handwashing practices @ the home. This infection can be very problematic for seniors and is hard to get rid of (multiple days of antibiotics + isolation). In order to promote handwashing, we brought in some antibacterial soap (as there is no dispensers in any of the rooms, only at the nursing stations), we, as a family were told that we couldn't have the antibacterial soap in the room because it was against state regs. and another staff member told us that it couldn't be out in my dad's room because he may ingest it. We made minimal, dietary requests and even though the dietician acknowledged our requests, they were never followed up upon. Made PT requests, via a family meeting, in which PT/OT wasn't present. In 2008, I would have happily recommended this facility for loved ones, but after what our family has experienced this past summer, I am highly disappointed with this facility. Maybe they bit off more than they could chew in regards to the new construction they did! Care has definitely been compromised for one reason or another. read more
