This is me, Luna the Dog and I'm chilling pain free. Thanks Dr. Gauger!
    M. Khadafi D.

My name is Luna and I had a destroyed cruciate ligament in my right rear knee. You see, even though I'm 10 I still enjoy chasing and tormenting squirrels and chipmunks. I'm never going to give it up. I'm old and fixed, so chasing small creatures and belly rubs are all I've got left. I'll tell you, my knee hurt so badly that I couldn't get upstairs to sleep in my master's room. Bless his heart, he would carry me up the stairs. Next thing you know, he took me over to Norway where I met Dr. Gauger. I was very afraid at first, but my master put me in his skilled hands. The next day my master came and got me. Dr. Gauger had some medicine for me to keep me sedated and relieve my pain after he surgically repaired my knee. Believe it or not, I was walking the next day. Every day I get better. Two weeks ago I took a little run in the snow. By the time the snow is gone, the few squirrels that the bobcats leave behind better watch out. My name is a Luna, I'm a Jack Russell terrier mix, and me and my master are big fans of Dr. Gauger and the Norway Veterinary Hospital.

Short story: go here; great medical staff, but prepare for really subpar customer service staff…read more We were vacationing in Maine and our dachshund collapsed in the backyard. It was close to 5PM, so we chose to wait for this clinic to open rather than driving to Portland or Scarborough. We arrived at 4:50 and waited outside the front door, which was locked. The receptionist was manning the desk and repeatedly clearly saw us through the glass doors, including making eye contact with my husband, but never came over to let us in, even though my husband was holding our dachshund, I was holding our three-month-old baby in her car seat, and it was 17 degrees and dark outside. At 4:57 the receptionist disappeared into the back and at 5:02 I finally called, a tech answered, apologized, and she rushed to let us in. As we were walking in, I heard the receptionist complaining, "it's only just 5:00 now." Nope. It was 5 after at that point, but more importantly, who leaves people with a sick dog and a baby out in the cold, especially if you're supposed to be in the animal CARE business?! Fortunately, the tech and the vet we worked with were terrific, and our dog is going to be fine. I really appreciated the tech's compassion and attention to detail, and the vet's candor and patience with questions (and the baby!). When we were checking out, a poor woman was dropping off her deceased bearded dragon for cremation. The receptionist couldn't have cared less. She was cold and dismissive and passed the box containing the body off to the tech carelessly, and loudly said "group cremation," in a completely empty tone, then charged the woman and said, "we're ready for Skippy" without even dismissing the other woman. The tech called out, "I'm sorry for your loss!" from the back as the woman left. My husband saw her crying in her car in the parking lot when he brought our dog out to the car. So, based on my limited experience, I'd say go here for good care, but prepare to be treated like a complete annoyance by the woman at the front desk.

I was incredibly composed considering my dog was dying in my arms. She had zero compassion and seemed annoyed to be at work and was short and snarky with me while asking me ridiculous questions that could have waited for when I arrived. NOT the type of person that should be in an emergency setting between her rudeness and lack of urgency and empathy. Once my dog died they rushed us out of there and discouraged us from getting testing of cause of death done. I think they were lazy and didn't want to bother with it so quickly talked us out of it/wouldn't tell us how much it would cost. Made us decide without giving us time to think about it. We were talked out of it and now I wish we did it. Shouldn't be discouraging people and rushing them into those kinds of decisions. The vet wouldn't even come in to talk to us to tell us what happened even tho he was right behind the door and had no other patients there and we specifically requested a minute of his time cus he was with dog at death. No excuse for that

Understandably, like many area businesses, they are overwhelmed and cannot take new clients. What is not understandable is why the person who answered the phone was so rude. She actually went out of her way to be rude and condescending. I have no doubt it must get annoying to have to tell people countless times a day that you are not accepting new patients, but perhaps mention that on the recorded message. You don't have to be kind but when someone is trying to get help for their best friend who is having frightening symptoms, you should really skip the whole being a jerk thing. I was able to find another vet and he got great care and is doing well now. I'm glad we were able to find another clinic because I would have taken him to this place despite the rudeness if they had been willing to see him, I was that desperate to get him help, but outside of a medical emergency, I would never want to place his care and well being in the hands of people like this. Imagine getting the honor and privilege to work with and care for animals all day and somehow still manage to be a horrible and miserable human.

When the vet finally came in I said just do the shots she said she would like to get an exam I did not agree but she tried anyway and charges me for it. If a brief health check involves listening to the heart through a porch railing for literally a second or two then I apologies for being wrong. The vet tech Amanda was super nice and compassionate, if not for her this would be a one star review. The vet herself left much to be desired. She did not seem to want to be there. If you have a dog who is anxious find a different vet. They were for sure over crowded at least on this day and I have been told they have turned down new patients in the recent past. You are veterinarians you get paid huge amounts of money and should be grateful for that. As a result, you should be kind, caring, generous, understanding, and flexible. Also, you're dealing with a plethora of different animals with a plethora of different personalities if you're not equipped to handle an anxious dog, be honest about it. You should be well aware that dogs can read body language and when you walk into a room with a negative demeanor that I as a human can pick up on the dog will pick up on it 10 fold. Maybe smile, use a happy tone, get down to their level give them a treat. This vet literally was hiding behind the tech in the doorway when she came in the room. Her mannerisms look suspicious to me I can only imagine what my dog thought. Thank you, Amanda for all your help you are wonderful. It's too bad you weren't the vet I bet you would make a better one than her.

We will not be going back, though, because of one particular vet, the worst one we've ever encountered. Most of the vets we saw there were great. But this one asked us to make an appointment to follow up on our ailing pet, and then simply refused to answer the phone or return messages to allow us to make that appointment. When a week had gone by with crickets, we asked for an appointment with anyone who was available. You can't wait like that with a sick pet. Well, that got him on the phone finally. He said another vet "wouldn't appreciate" having to see us. Oh really? Then pick up the phone!! Then midway through discussing treatment options (again, on a sick animal) he said he "had to go" and hung up on us. We couldn't agree on what treatments he had even said they'd do, and they did one we definitely didn't agree to or discuss. The treatment wasn't the issue, though; the issue was his epically bad, unprofessional attitude. The kicker? He never called to ask us how our potentially dying pet was doing afterwards. Never again.

They have eliminated the separation of dogs and cats in the waiting room (which was brilliant). They then made us wait another hour before we received the medication and could check out. This appointment took 2.5 hours total for a simple exam. The overwhelming majority of this time was spent waiting in the waiting room or exam room. There did not appear to be a single other patient in the practice while we were there, so I'm perplexed as to why we had to wait this long. When I got home, I reviewed the receipt because I felt the total was higher than the estimate, and I realized they charged us twice for one of the medications. The staff and veterinarian seemed generally friendly/competent, but the wait time, coupled with the billing mistake, is a deal breaker for me. I will not return to this practice.

We brought our seventeen year old papillon for two days last weekend to Karla's Pet Rendezvous. Our first impression was great. They were very friendly and they said they were waiting for us. Someone took our dog right away and said she would be with her. The woman at the desk received our dog's bag and started taking notes of everything we needed with respect to feeding our dog. We gave her a new bag of very special food and explained how to serve it. We told her also that we left a can of food, only in case of need. She was saying yes to everything. I wonder if she actually wrote it down. Two days later we returned for our dog. We were very concerned to find out if she ate well. She usually doesn't eat well when we are not around and that's why we brought in the special food. To our surprise, they said she ate well. We also asked if she was taken out to the bathroom recently. She said about an hour ago. Our dog was crying from the moment she saw us, which was also unusual but we thought she really missed us. We left, thinking everything was fine. We took her outside and she peed immediately for a long time. She doesn't do this unless she hasn't been out for hours. I was already disappointed but I didn't say anything and left. Our dog kept crying in the car, which it's also strange. I gave her a treat and she devoured it. And wanted more. I told my husband, our dog seems very hungry which it's very unusual since it was about 3 in the afternoon and she doesn't eat dinner until after 6. We stopped to feed her. The first thing we found was the bag of the special foods that was not even open. We served it immediately and our dog was really starving. They didn't even opened it! We found the can food that was open and they used only a little bit. We were so upset. Our dog ate and stopped crying. The next day I called the pet boarding place and they dismissed me. They said it was an accident. I felt really bad to have left my dog in such bad care. I do not recommend this place at all.
