This new fish and chips shop in Annandale is bringing some much needed life to Annandale's Johnson…read moreSt strip. Popping up just in time for summer, Fat Fish fills a hole that was all but tailored to them. Here is a nice shady spot for take away fish and chips in Annandale, that means the residents of this little village don't have to travel to Balmain or Glebe for good fish and chips and allows for them to shop local - an important factor for this village community. Fat Fish has a great range of salads (at least 12 different options) and prices are fair - fish and one salad for $10; fish, chips and salad for $11.50. You get a decent serving for your money, and not only is your fillet of fish large (I wish I could catch fish that big) but it is cooked to perfection - moist, softly flakey and delicious. Their menu also has a couple of good burgers and seafood packs, as well as offering grilled baby octopus, sushi and killpatrick and mornay oysters (4 for $10), but the pre-cheesed/baconed display of these oysters turned me off. They also sell fresh fish for you to cook yourself and they use only 100% cholesterol free Australian vegetable oil. There's a subtle mariner theme to this shop, with painted wooden boards hung on the wall. A couple of basic white tables are dotted inside and out the front of the shop, surrounded by stocky wooden stools. It's not a dine-in experience, but they're providing you with the option if you want it. I'm pleased to say that now I have a reliable, delicious and cheap fish and chips option in each of my would-be locals: Fish on Fire in Glebe (review: http://www.yelp.com.au/biz/fish-on-fire-glebe#hrid:eKN3WWgLtQa7DPDYQV5Q1g/src:self), Balmain Blu in Balmain (review: http://www.yelp.com.au/biz/balmain-blu-balmain) and the welcome addition of Fat Fish in Annandale.

If it's fast and fresh you want, well Fat Fish is your answer…read more We had the Annandale special, grilled fish (cod), chips and choice of one salad for $12.90. The fish was superbly grilled with herbs, the chips lightly fried and crisp and the salads are so fresh they are a delight to eat. At last there's a local fish and chippy that gets the formula right, great food and service here, we will be back.

The dishes we ordered were good but we thought that the dumpling skins were a little bit glutinous, which makes the yum cha a bit stodgy and heavy! The egg tarts were quite right either - the filling was good but the pastry seemed undercooked and oily. Apr 28, 2016 We stopped here for yum cha with friends on the way from the airport to the CBD because this was the highest rated yum cha restaurant in Sydney. It was lunch time on a Saturday and the queue stretched out of the door and down the street. Luckily we had made a booking so we were able to go straight in as soon as a table became available. The restaurant is quite small so there is no room for the dumplings to be wheeled around on trolleys - instead the wait staff bring them around on trays. The food was good but not outstanding, the service was good and the prices were very reasonable.

Hung Cheung as with most Yum Cha might require a bit of a wait as it's teeming with business however it's worth it and at almost half the price of the other Yum Cha restaurants and the efficiency of service is a force to be reckoned with. Squeak.....Squeak...... Squeak that's the white noise in Heung Cheung as all the trolleys roll past. Paper lanterns hang from bright pink walls all the garish of cheap bling. We wait like animals crouching for prey and then we hit. Prawn dumplings, Yeow Chee, Sumei, Chinese broccoli, pork dumplings and custard tarts for the finale. Feel lucky to be part of a city that has so much diversity in cuisine. Verdict: For two people 8 dishes were $37.50, fantastic service and wonderful food.
