Trying to do something adventurous because of the current situation we decided to go zip lining in WI. Found Northwoods through Yelp had good recommendations. We were excited and nervous because it was our first time trying this. As soon as we got there we were greeted and made to feel very comfortable. Our guides Will & Lizzie were extremely thorough and professional in guiding us through all of the equipment, safety, and guide rules. They go above and beyond to make sure you are safe in your surroundings. The canopy tour was awesome we had a great time and our guides made it fun for us. My daughter just did the Aerial Trek. Because she's 16, we allowed her to go on her own. One of the adults from the family in the group was afraid at each obstacle and had to be coaxed to even attempt it. At one point, this adult even had to get additional assistance from Northwoods. This held up the entire group. The tour, said to be 2 hours on the site, took 3.5 hours in 90° heat. My husband would ask "where's my daughter" and was only told "they're running late" and "they're out there." My daughter developed heat exhaustion during the 3.5hr experience and vomited on the way home. Even though my husband and daughter thoroughly enjoyed their zip line tour two days ago, I cannot recommend a service that allows tour groups to run so far behind that their patrons get ill from the experience. read more

My 12 year old son and I went on this zipline adventure while on vacation in the area. I have a huge fear of heights-not so much being up high, but looking down and then up. So this was a big deal for me. The guides were fantastic. They go through your gear, how to stop, brake, monkey crawl and yes, you are up high but I really didn't even notice it. Maybe it was the adrenaline but it was amazing and I highly recommend it. We had a great group and you are told about the safety precautions so I felt super safe, which helped with the internal anxiety. The guides encourage everyone and make the trek even more fun. This experience was exactly what we needed. I would give NZLT more than 5 stars, if possible. I've been spending time up in the Northwoods my entire life, but had never been here a significant amount of time to warrant any moment away from the lake until now. I emailed Northwoods Zip Line a bit hesitant to confirm whether or not they'd be cool with a gay couple. I hate that I have to do that, but that's the world we live in now. Kenzie was absolutely fantastic with her response, and I was sold instantly. We arrived and were greeted with an enthusiastic Grant, who was our tour guide. Grant and Tori were the best guides ever. They both were extremely helpful especially since I have a slight fear of heights. Grant with his dad jokes and helpful advice with particularly scary sections, and Tori with her verrrrry serious / business face while zip lining were truly the best. Not only should you do Northwoods Zip Line, but you should request Grant and Tori. Will definitely be back!! read more

During our annual summer week in Eagle River, a 40+ year family tradition, we decided to do something new and take the kids zip-lining. They have never been so to say they were excited would be an understatement. I went online and tried several times to make the reservation but it wouldn't go thru. I received an email from the company indicating they could see I was trying to make the reservation and to give them a call if they could help. Great. I spoke with a young woman who was extremely professional and polite. She said she would hold our reservation and we could provide payment upon checking in. In the meantime she said she would call her owner to see if they were having an issue with their reservation system. Perfect, problem solved. We received a call back a few minutes later and this same very nice woman informed us that she spoke with her owner, they were having no issues with their system, and she was instructed by the owner to cancel our reservation "immediately" and we were free to rebook with a new form of payment. Wow. Bad customer service is born from excuses including that's our policy, we can't make exceptions, it wouldn't be fair, we've always done it that way, and on and on. The reason you don't run a business in this manner, it's called managing for the exception, is because of what happened to our family. Our bank called us early the next morning we attempted to make this reservation. They said our account was compromised and someone in Miami was attempting to use our account number. We don't travel to or know anyone in Miami. As a result the fraud department within our bank put a hold on our accounts for our protection. For the rest of our vacation we had to call a bank rep, who would temporarily open our account so we could make a purchase, then close it again. Had this owner made any attempt to work with us, had this owner done anything other than play the too bad card, we would have been able to make this reservation the very next morning (several business hours later). Had the nice person speaking with us on the phone been allowed to use her judgement, then we would have had this cleared up the very next morning with our integrity and reservation intact. One more ownership lesson, let your people do their jobs. This entire review is the result of taking responsibility away from your team. I will say again, the person we spoke with on the phone was extremely personable. There is nothing worse than listening to an outstanding frontline employee being put in a position to pass along contradictory owner info. The owner could have and should have made this call back to me. If the owner doesn't care about my business they still owe it to their team to have their back. I was taught early in my career with Marriott & Hilton that you never manage for the exception. This owner didn't even try to understand us or work with us because that would be managing for the exception, that would take time. So much easier to say hey, we're good on our end, we'll probably book the spots without them, cancel it. Had he or she given us from that night to the next morning to figure this out, still days from the reservation, then we all would have realized the account fraud we were victims of in the middle of our vacation and had the reservation paid within hours of our initial attempt to book. This is the first time we've been victims of credit card fraud. Was this our fault? You didn't have deadbeats trying to scam you into making a reservation. Was that your fear? Was that the possible exception that could have occurred? You had a victimized family and the victimization happened during the most special week of our year. Our overall experience here is the result of the owners decision. Imagine how this would have turned out had the woman taking our call been allowed to stand by her initial decision to take our reservation while we figured out what was going on. You can get away with this type of leadership for a long time because you have no competition, a location in the beautiful north woods and a tourist-based business. Just because you can though doesn't mean you should. Regardless, consider taking another look at your reservation screen. When you see a number, remember it is actually a name. The 4 I couldn't book included Ethan and Avery. read more

This place is excellent! We had a group of 5 going on the 'Zipline Canopy Tour' which included 9 zip lines with bridges and a few hiking trails. We were put with another family of two who we're here for the first time, not knowing what to expect. When we first met with the guides they were not only very fun to be around, they were also very professional and it seemed like they knew exactly what they were doing. When a person in my group was visibly frightened from the wobbly bridges, they were very encouraging and consoling to her and congratulated her after she made it across the final bridge and said that when they come across someone like that and they make it across the entire course, they feel as if they've completed their job. We've been zip lining in other parts of the world and we thought Northwoods Zip Line was hands down awesome! Andrew was extremely accommodating and such a nice guy. We went on a group tour with 6 people. We has a few folks with little experience and some with none. Riley was a fantastic guide along with his counter part, Eric. They kept things easy going and the jokes just kept rolling throughout. They were patient and enthusiastic throughout the whole tour and without that it really wouldn't have made the experience the same. I personally had some issues on the first few runs with slowing down enough and Riley was a champ, corrected my mistakes and coached me kept me feeling safe and got me through.
