Omaha Cheesesteak - Regular cheesesteak (without cheese wiz)

My workplace is starting up food trucks again after a few years hiatus and I'm so excited! The…read morekickoff event was Omaha Cheesesteak. They had 4 options - regular Philly cheesesteak ($13 and $2 extra for cheese whiz), Omaha cheesesteak (with corned beef), Korean cheesesteak (bbq sauce and more spicy toppings) and Buffalo chicken. My co-worker and I were thrilled to get the Philly and she didn't want the green pepper which they were happy to accommodate. Came in a nice take away box. We were both really pleased with our meals and had a super nice lunch together. I hope they come back again! Nice people running the food truck and they accepted cash or card.

Some of them were what you'd expect for a $17 food truck lunch (which is typically a lot more expensive than fast food however you're getting something a bit more healthy, and it helps to support self-employed workers in the food business), while some of them were kind of dry. Unfortunately my bowl was one that turned out dry. If I was the only one that received a barely mediocre lunch I would have said something, unfortunately the other people I was with didn't feel comfortable with calling out the cooks for serving them overpriced stuff thrown into a bowl so we just dealt with it and moved on. Somebody sitting next to me had a Korean bowl that looked so darn good I almost begged for a bite LOL. This place has potential however they were more concerned about that quick $17 than giving their customers a 'true' $17 meal.

A delicate hint of sour, and a soft touch of light rye, with a fresh scent of caraway and onion..... it is a perfect loaf! Chewy, but still supple. they have mastered the craft. People living in Lithuania might be jealous! But such bakeries are rare, even in Chicago nowadays. we live here in California and there is nothing even close to what we remember. But luckily, this little gem of a bakery is making their incredible Lithuanian sourdough rye bread available via Goldbelly. if you are lucky enough to be standing in front of this bakery, run, don't walk inside and buy as many loaves as you have money for. They will freeze well, and they will be the best bread you have ever eaten. If you are not standing in front of it, do what I did. go to their website, and order by Goldbelly. I plan to do it for as long as they remain in business. This bread certainly makes a good sandwich if you slice it thin. But I prefer it toasted, with butter. Or better yet, smeared with Lithuanian farmers cheese that has bits of Caraway. The toast softens the cheese a bit, and you have a gooey treat! If you don't have such cheese (Andrulis is a good brand) consider a good creamy goat or even a simple cow's milk cream cheese spread from good ol' Philadelphia. Honestly, you can just eat it straight from. The loaf. Can't go wrong.

In early 2025, Jersey Mike's was taken over by Blackstone, a ruthless private equity company. At…read moreabout the same time, there was major staff turnover at this store. What hasn't changed (yet): Compared to other sub shop chains in Omaha, Jersey Mike's has better and fresher ingredients, and the sandwiches are larger. They also cost a lot more. Ordering is a dilemma, especially if you want several sandwiches made your way instead of Mike's Way. You can give all the istructions up front, in which case some of them will be forgotten or miscommunicated. Or you can supervise each step, which can be an extreme exercise in multitasking. What has changed this year: There seem to be more employees, but they're less customer-focused. The woman who took my order on the last few visits appears demoralized and becomes visibly frustrated, if not hostile, if I don't place my order in *exactly* the way she prefers. On my last visit, she directly ordered the sandwich-maker to disregard my instructions. I hope she finds a job where she can be happy and were she doesn't drive off customers. Prices have increased and discounts have become less generous. Private equity seeks short-term profit over customer satisfaction or loyalty. There have been changes to the menu and decor which haven't impacted me. The menu numbers for the items they still carry seem to all be the same.

Jersey Mike's is probably my favorite sandwich shop! The sandwiches are massive and the "Mike's…read moreWay" option hits the spot. We have always had good service at this location and the restaurant is always clean. I personally like the #9 Club Deluxe, add mayo and bacon to it, trust me it's good!
