My mother, a limited income 87 year old woman on social security, bought a new toilet and needed it installed. Sadly something I cannot do with back problems. She called NW plumbing since she had been a LONG time customer going back to the previous owner hoping to get it installed. The toilet is new in the box sitting in her living room, just needs to be installed. NW quoted her $450 to do the job. That's almost half her monthly income so she said she can't pay that cause it's too expensive, to which she was promptly told by NW plumbing "DON'T INSULT ME! THAT TOILET IS MADE IN CHINA!" not even knowing what kind of toilet it even is, and hung up on her. Well thank you very much NWP for treating an old lady, and a customer of yours for 40+ years that way. Real classy guys. My mom isn't perfect but your customer service is even worse. read more

Old, old house I have. I cringe when something goes wrong, so...my waste trap in my bathroom started leaking Friday night. Felt back there and it was crumbling to the touch. I know I needed a plumber. We have a lot of them in the area, so which one? I consulted 'Next Door' site of which I am a member, and there was a plumber recommendation section. These guys were mentioned more than once and were so close, so gave them a shot. I also needed a kitchen faucet replaced that was leaking around the top when I turned that on. Might as well get that done while doing the other. Called them a little after they opened. A person answered, already good. Came within the time frame quoted; went to work right away, finished quickly and yet had enough time to explain some issues I had, and haven't even told him about. Nice. Not sure if they were the cheapest or not, but the whole experience was great. I can use my bathroom sink and have a nice new shiny kitchen faucet that does not leak. I didn't even have to change my plans for the day. Best experience with any plumbers ever. I will be using them again. read more

AWESOME. I've used these plumbers for years for a reason. They balance quality service with practical advice. This time, I had them out after a home inspection claimed "major plumbing issues". I'm selling the house, and the prospective buyer's inspector claimed there was a leak in the crawlspace and plumbing issues with the second floor bathtub. I quote directly from the report: "Water is leaking to the crawlspace, where copper piping was poorly patched, in small rear crawlspace. This is an inadequate patch, likely in response to a pipe that froze." "Plumbing behind & below the older 2nd fl. tub, needs to be checked by lic. plumber; much water leaked through the 1st fl. BR ceiling after this tub was filled and drained. Quantity of water likely shows this isn't merely due to overflow drain." The buyers backed out of the contract due to the inspection's "major plumbing issues". Northwest Plumbing fit me into their schedule despite my limited availability (I'm moving out-of-state and given notice at my job and my life is hectic and filled with chaos). They fixed the leak in the crawlspace and checked the bathtub. The tub is an old steel tub, and they couldn't replace the gasket without damaging the tub, but they were able to use caulk and a new overflow plate (the inspector had damaged the existing one during the inspection) to resolve the problem. The total cost of fixing these "major plumbing issues" was under $250. I tested the bathtub fix today - filled the tub to overflow... let the overflow run a while, then drained the tub. NO water in the first floor bedroom. Of course, this doesn't undo the fact the prospective buyers backed out due to inspection... but I'm prepared for the next ones! Fabulous Customer Service, polite, fair, quick! The day after the coldest day of the year (polar vortex day!), our cold water pipe to our kitchen sink broke. Of course we didn't know, because it was frozen solid! But the day after that at 8am, my wife discovered water gushing through the roof of our attached garage (under the kitchen) in our townhouse. So, we had to shut off our water. That means: No showers, no working toilets, no water for coffee! (I know it's a 1st world problem, but still...) We were referred to Jim at NW Plumbing from the Plumbing Council in Chicago based on our zip code. (We had called three plumbers and all were booked solid for next 3 days.) Lucky us! Jim had had a cancellation, and was available to come in 3 hours. He was polite on the phone, a good listener, and made an accurate diagnosis based on the facts I told him. He was on time. He cut out the drywall, found the break in the copper pipe right where he said it would be. He repaired it and gave me some great advice on how to prevent this from happening when the weather got below 0 degrees again. (and you know it will. Hey this is Chicago, right?) He was done in 60 minutes. I was super happy. My wife even happier! I paid his fee which was totally reasonable considering how busy plumbers were that day -- and added a tip! (Is that okay to tip a plumber?) I'm telling everyone in my town home complex about Jim and his brother at NW Plumbing. It's a family owned business started by his father. Living in Chicago and doing any home maintenance can be very expensive, this company has one major advantage going for them, in one word HONESTY. They are very responsive, arrive as scheduled to do the job, and meet the quoted price to do the work. These guys are the real deal as plumbers go, and can do anything you need. But, based on my experience, and the mess made within our home (which we were left to deal with), I will be calling someone else the next time we need work done. We had them replace a water heater. Don't care for the model installed, it's really loud when the burners come on, and it ticks loudly at the same time. I made clear that we wanted the same size/vent setup we had (50gal/4" vent), didn't want a noisy unit, and money wasn't an issue. What we got is noisy, requires regular intake cleaning (added hassle), and converted our 4" vent down to 3" using cheap, thin vent pipe. Not pleased. A better quality model would not make so much noise or tick while running. Didn't listen to what we wanted. *** Re Business Owner comments. The actual plumber that did the job, Jim, was extremely professional, and pleasant. Finished in about an hour, for a messy job, in an extremely tight work space. Had all sinks and toilets backing up into basement on Thursday night before the Memorial day weekend. The first plumbers I contacted on Friday morning said they would try to get to us before the end of the day, but Northwest said they could get someone out by 11 am. Fred showed up at 10:50 and got right to work. By 12:10, Fred was done, packed up and everything was clean and working perfectly. The charges were competitive with the rates I knew. This company has it all....Knowledgeable, Professional, Fair, Honest & Courteous We've had them out to our house a couple different times (most recently a major re-piping of our old 50-60 year old galvanized supply lines). They finished the job exactly as described and in the timeframe they estimated. Jim is never too busy to take the time to answer questions before, during and even after the job has been completed. He really knows his stuff and provides a great feeling of comfort and trust whenever dealing with him. Around 4pm today we realized our bathtub was clogged beyond anything we could do. I started researching and found Northwest Plumbing Co on the BBB website. They had nothing but good reviews and awards and they've been around forever so I thought we'd give them a shot. One phone call and less than 45 minutes later Fred was at our house working on the problem. Within a half an hour he'd solved that problem for a very reasonable price and given us an excellent quote on another plumbing project.
