What a great Barber shop! I just moved up here from San Francisco about 2 months ago and have been looking for a good barber. I have been to Roosevelt Barber shop and 2 1/2 happy barbers since I moved. 2 1/2 was a great experience over roosevelt (which was still pretty good) but I have to say this place beats both. First of all there was no wait! Walked right in the door and sat in the chair. Peter listened to what I wanted and went to work. He worked quickly and carefully. Got a great cut and he threw in the beard trim for free. My favorite part was he shaved my neck with a straight razor without me having to ask and with no extra charge. I only paid 20 bucks for the cut. I'll tell you that the same quality cut in San Francisco would be 45-55 with a 2 hour wait at least. The only downside was it was hard to find parking, I went at the lunch hour and the parking lot was packed. I live in Seattle but I will be making my way over to Bellevue from now on. Northtowne is a little barber shop that "specializes in men's hair" (I've never seen a woman getting her hair cut here) owned by a Korean couple nestled in Northtowne Center next to the QFC. I've been getting my hair cut here every 3-4 months by Tom for over 3 years now, choosing it originally because it was within walking distance and continuing to go because of being pleased with the service. He is personable without prying - I don't go to my barber to have social time, so I don't really need to discuss my personal life as the person I used to go to in NJ wanted to discuss (which was even weirder because my mother went to the same place, albeit to a different person, so who knows what would have been repeated.) Haircuts are $18 (buzz cuts $16) and there's a $1 discount if you pay by cash as opposed to Visa/MC, which I consider a reasonable price for a quality haircut. This place thrives on walk-ins, but I've seen people call in to ask when would be a good time, and I believe you can make an appointment with Sung on Tue-Thu from 9:30am-1pm, but I always go on the weekend. Note that if you do come on the weekend and don't call ahead, you'll probably have to wait a bit; Tom is the only one there on the weekend - I usually bring a book, and if not, there's a decent magazine selection to browse. The facilities are kept clean, and if it's not busy, you'll get a free back massage with their hand-held massage machine (which was a pleasant surprise the first time I was here.) If you're looking for a relatively quick, easy and simple haircut in the downtown Bellevue area, Northtowne is a good choice - I've found no reason to look elsewhere. read more
