Extremely disappointed with the service here. After putting my information in, I was given a wait time but received no greeting, no acknowledgment, and no "thank you" throughout the process. When I returned my ski equipment, the employee briefly asked how it was, then immediately turned to another customer mid-conversation. I had to interrupt just to get my own shoes back. To make matters worse, they ran out of ski poles, and an employee actually suggested I "take one from someone else." I ended up having to go to another location to find what I needed. For premium prices, this was by far the worst service I've experienced. I've skied at many mountains, and the lack of professionalism and basic customer service here was shocking. read more

This was such a bummer. They canceled operations today, and I get that they had to do that because of weather. But I purchased my lift ticket and bike rentals days in advance, so they had my contact information and email address... Wouldn't it be incredibly easy - and really appropriate - to send a quick email informing that operations were closed today? It would take them no time at all to have done this. (It can and should be as simple as an automated email!) Instead, I drove an hour and a half each way, only to find out when I arrived that they had long ago made the decision to close, and just never bothered to inform everyone they took advance payments from. It's 2021. This would've been so easy to implement. This was really, really bad and left a bad taste in my mouth. Again, it's not the closing that's such a bummer - it's the total neglecting to do the right thing and let all the prepaid customers know not to bother driving up. If either the rental office or the lift ticket office had done this, this all could've been solved in advance, but neither business bothered. skipping out on the basics like this and forgetting about the customers has really turned me sour on Northstar altogether. read more

Ritz shoutout: Brooke, Eric & Katelyn Patient, kind, knowledgeable and informative. For a novice skier, I'm a pain in the butt when it comes to my rental gear but these gals were understanding and geared me right. I was able to even purchase my demo skis which love! Since I had a 4 day rental arranged, they encouraged me to try as many skis as possible to really be sure I found a set I liked. This seems SO obvious in hindsight but I've never done this when previously renting. I found a perfect pair that suit me and felt good in my knees. They gave me confidence and lucky for me, were brand new 2021 skis that had never been used before. Straight up would never have discovered these without the collaborative effort of these ladies. Word of advice: -If staying at the Ritz do not select delivery when making your rental equipment reservation. I did because I hadn't been here before and it just made it a bit more challenging on the staff to find my reservation - if buying demo skis, they will credit 1 day of your rental toward a purchase of skis! Amazing! I've tried to buy demos at other mountains and was turned away. Not at Northstar - TrueNorth in the village price matches with reputable online retailers. Highly recommend these peeps! First day of rentals was great. The technician was very knowledgeable and had good advise. The second day that I rented I asked the technician about some skis and he responded to me saying "I don't ski!". He didn't even offer to get someone to answer my questions. I think if you are going to rent Demo ski you guys should have knowledgeable technician and/or find someone who knows what they are doing. I will not recommend this place to anyone. You know when A customer is happy they will tell a few people but when a customer is unhappy they will tell a lot of people. read more

Was charged $748 mistakenly. Have yet to receive a refund. This was after the $398 charge payment that went through and the manager Daniel W. insisted and reassured me that it hadn't until I showed him the emailed receipt/charge to my account. This place is poorly run. And unless you want several random charges to your credit card, and a 20 year old ambivalent manager telling you you're wrong, you're better off going somewhere else. Also, most ski rental places in the village will take your skis to your hotel valet if you're staying here, not this place. No one looked particularly busy and yet it took an hour for the yet-to-be-seen refund to be processed, after much questioning from me. This place is horribly managed. I just hope the equipment isn't faulty when I try it out (there's another review of someone injuring themselves from faulty equipment). read more

I had an unlucky morning losing my sunglasses, jamming my binding snowboard binding, and Rhys came to the rescue with his efficiency, patience, and compassion. I hit a couple of rocks and dinged my ski bases. I brought my skis in to Village Demos after my ski day. They suggested a Premium Tune that would include base repair, a Snowell precision edge tune, and an iron wax. I picked my skis up the next morning and they were good as new. I could not see any evidence of a repair. The best part was how well my skis performed. If you need a repair or just want your skis or board to work better go to Village Demos. read more

On the mountain and the binding on my snowboard lost it- a screw popped out. I figured I would have to go to the bottom of the mountain but village demo was right at mid-mountain. Very cool person in there fixed me up in 5 minutes and was really helpful. Also saw a lot of nice gear in there to try out on the mountain, super perk to have the opportunity to try out a bunch of boards on the mountain. read more

Had our skis tuned there and they did an ok job. Just that picking up our skis took awhile and the manager couldn't find my boot. Eventually they did but they were not apologetic or even thanked us at anytime. It is getting so that customers are thanking the service people and the businesses are not training staff to thank customers. What's with that? read more

Fantastic team, support, and expertise. I met the manager and he was supper accommodating as well as his staff. When I showed up hoping to get my 80's ski's adjusted they told me that they didn't have enough information to work with them. I was frustrated because I had called Northstar, asked to be transferred to the rental shop, and was told by a representative that they could adjust them. However, I was allowed to rent demos for a discounted price, due to my troubles and the kind generosity of Village Demo. And because of the great quality and recommendation I received from a staff member, Nevada, I felt super in control, comfortable, and exhilarated on the mountain. If I could afford the demos every time I went skiing I surely would! Thank you for the experience! read more

The entire crew at the demo center was incredibly considerate and professional. Renting skis and boots as expert skiers can be a harrowing experience as oftentimes, it's your word against the employee sizing you up whether he/she believes you to be the skier you are. Zach A. and Brian took such good care of us. They also took care of our little kids (5 and 6yrs of age), and the twenty year olds we had in our party. Brian (the supervisor) was a lifesaver: he double-checked all the binding settings. Thank goodness since he caught a few mistakes. There were cookies to go around afterwards. Since my rental was only for a day b/c I needed to rest a day in between, I brought back my gear and told Nevada that I had loved the gear Zach A. had set me up in and that I hoped I could still get the same set-up 2 days later. Nevada told me, "hey, no problem! I'll just reserve them for you for the entire week." Wow. That is what you call going the extra mile. I'd like to mention that as a former ski instructor, I've witnessed my share of bad attitudes on the part of both clients and ski rental employees. While we were waiting for our turn, I saw several customers with terrible attitudes come in, and the employees at the Northstar Sports Village Demo center all responded with kindness and understanding. I had an amazing experience at this shop! Let me start by saying this was my very first day skiing in my life. I had an awful morning on borrowed skiis so I decided to go down and get new skiis. I showed up to the store feeling pretty defeated. I was helped almost immediately by Jacob who was very supportive and sweet. He was very helpful and made me feel ready to get back out there. Then Carolyn came over to check in and she was also wonderful! She helped me find better fitting boots and convinced Jacob to give me very short skiis so that I wouldn't constantly fall on my a$$. I had fun with both of them and it really lifted my spirits. After I checked out, I had a miniature panic attack because I realized that I lost my ski poles that were also borrowed. Brett jumped in to help me look and I quickly found them laying in the corner. With this new found confidence, I ended up making my way to the very top of the mountain! When I got back to drop off my skiis, I was greeted with excited high fives by Jacob and Carolyn. I now look forward to my next trip and will not hesitate to rent from this awesome store. Came in for what I thought was a simple repair (back binding fell off). The ski ended up needing to get a remount which would take 2+ hours on Saturday morning after driving 3 hrs up for the day. Not only was I given a discount on the remount but was also set up with some demo skis all day for free! Jacob from Winnemucca, NV was more than understanding with my situation and treated me very well. He turned what could've been a trip ruined into a great experience all around. I walked into Village Demo with a ski pole that had lost its basket. Jordan and Brian were there, and when they noticed that the brand of pole was one they had available for demo use, they grabbed one of their own poles, removed the basket, and attached it to my pole! This team - Jordan in particular - saved my day! With my family already on the mountain waiting for me, I still needed to get some gear (particularly boots for reasons I won't get into). They are trying to get it right for the customer, not just maximize revenue in their extremely convenient location, as so many shops with this sort of real estate tend to do. No matter how long the line, they get you in and out and hook you up with equipment that really works for you, whatever your skill level. (In my case, I was choosing among some excellent skis built for aggressive skiers and they were great at identifying the key differences among them, and what to look for as I skied.) Village demo is great. We had purchased skis for my son before coming up to Northstar. We got ready to go down the first run of the day and the boots didn't fit in the bindings. After thinking we would have to rent skis, Jordan R. at village demo was able to make the adjustment needed for the boots to fit, free of charge! This is not really a demo center. It's a glorified rental shop. Make sure you double check what you are renting. I tried three pairs of skis. The first pair went out completely detuned with no wax. I had to go back to have it replaced. Their mid mountain shop has a very small selection of past year skis, so if you want the more recent models, you have to go down to the village. read more

We were at Northstar a few weeks ago and I've been meaning to get on Yelp and post this review ever since. We went to the mid-mountain demo shop since my snowboard bindings weren't cooperating that day and were helped by Ty and Riker. I can't say enough good things about them both! They are incredibly nice and extremely knowledgeable about all things snowboard-related. I'm newer to snowboarding than my boyfriend is, and I had fallen in love with and therefore adopted his favorite snowboard. Ty and Riker fixed my bindings, then proceeded to educate me on what might be the best type of snowboard for me (so that I can get my own and give my boyfriend's back to him). They were so full of new information and took the time to really explain the various features I might want in a board. Next time we're at Northstar, we will definitely be going back to Village Demo at mid-mountain so I can try one of their boards. Thanks for all that you do, Ty and Riker! read more
