No stars needed... can stars go negative?! This site makes you pick at least 1 star but shouldn't. We SCHEDULED an appointment to test drive a specific vehicle we'd found online and were told to ask for the manager when we arrived. I had communicated that we were interested in this SPECIFIC car and confirmed that the car was available- I'd also corrected my phone number TWICE w/their online sales person. Upon arrival, the staff new nothing about the appointment and placed us with an available salesman. We were told the car was NOT in their inventory and had been sent to auction. I demanded to speak w/a manager who told us, "you don't want that car." When asked why no one had contacted me when it was realized the car wasn't there, they said someone called and left a message approximately 2 hours prior to appointment. There was no call and no message received. They tried to interest us in other vehicles and refused to see the problem with their ways. It was my son's 18th birthday- he'd emptied his savings for a down payment and had cleaned out his current truck for trade. It was an extremely disappointing experience and I walked away while the manager was pleading his case. My husband and son were still sitting/listening when the manager said, "I don't want to do business with you if you're going to be like this." Can I ask why, 9 days later, the car is still listed on their website??? The old bait and switch-- It's obvious it's simply a ploy to get you in the door and it should be illegal. This type of practice is exactly why car dealerships and salesmen have the reputation they do- they're slimy, sleazeballs who'll do anything for a sale. Looks like not much has changed in 20 years when they'd messed w/my spark plugs to get me to make the trade. What level of incompetence and dishonesty is acceptable? I believe in keeping things local, but who wants to deal with this type of behavior?? read more

WORST dealership I have ever been to. BUYERS BEWARE.. Purchased a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta TDI on July 11th. I had them put a new wheel on it due to there being curb rash on one of the rims. (Front drivers side to be exact.) Drove it home and it was shaking pretty bad at 70+ MPH. I brought the car to my mechanic thinking it had to be balanced because new wheel and it wasn't shaking much when I test drove it, I figured maybe it just didn't get balanced. My mechanic showed me that all 4 tires were weather worn, cupped on the inside tread, and the rear passenger side tire was actually separating from the rim. NOW you would think this would've been noticed by the techs at the shop when the car was on the lift getting the new wheel put on but apparently not. I did not see this because the inside tread is covered by the fenders, but when the vehicle is on a lift its very noticeable. He also told me the entire wheel hub was shot and the wheel was probably another 1000 miles from falling off. I called Northstar and explained everything, they said there's nothing they can do. Keep in mind they were informed of this within 2-3 weeks of me purchasing the car. I took the car back to my mechanic to have new tires put on and he informed me that ALL 4 RIMS WERE BENT. So thank you Northstar ford, for completely ruining my first time experience with you and selling me a car with MULTIPLE safety hazards. read more

The service department at Northstar Ford is something to be desired. I have dealt with them on 4 separate occasions with HORRIBLE service each time. The staff is friendly and has been able to accommodate appointments, but the turn around time on my vehicle has been no less than 7 days each time!! I am a traveling salesman and without a vehicle I am landlocked in Duluth. Each and every time I have been up there for service, there has been a 2-4 delay on the necessary parts for the repair. Not to mention, the service manager and administrative assistants are horrible about following up on the status of your vehicle. You have to call them back repeatedly each day to get an update, not them being proactive and giving you an update. All in all, if you are looking at a Ford vehicle from Northstar Ford, I would look elsewhere. The vehicle itself might be a good value, but if (when) something goes wrong with it...and it will...the service department is what makes them a terrible value. **BUYER BEWARE** read more

Girlfriend bought new focus and worked most of the deal over the phone. She was told before the hour and half drive there she had a couple of choices for auto's by sales geek. When she got there there was only ONE car on the lot that met her qualifications...ONE CAR, I better not hear huge selection in there next commercial. Process was rushed and every question was met with mumbles and "0 apr!"...(mumbles) "0 apr!". I stood and watched while nothing was explained to her showed to her or broken down. Oh wait, the new car was already broken down. Trunk activator didn't work and she would have to bring it back. I heard that as Mumble's the Salesman crawled through the backseat into trunk to open... Think she spent about 2 grand too much, btw. Overall the service was crappy, the process was rushed and I promised her I wouldn't say anything. But, if she would have let me, that would've been "pathetic". Professionalism perceived, is professionalism achieved... Sorry, not for her, not this time...the last time! I am definitely not doing business with Norhtstar ford. Their pushy salesmen wheeled and dealed with me and were not going to let me leave that place without buying a car. They managed to get what seamed to be a great deal for me, so I was okay with the fact that they were persistant. They approved my credit and told me the monthly payment. I caught them right before close on Friday (by that I mean I came in about an hour before close and the process wasn't complete) so they asked me to come in Saturday "just to sign the paperwork and pick up the truck" but when I came back first thing Saturday morning I found out that they couldn't even fulfill the deal we agreed upon, in fact the payment was hundreds higher unless I got a co signer which they tried to push me into. I understand that maybe there were certain limitations with my credit score or lack of credit history, but to waste my time and tell me I'm approved and take hours of my time only to go back on your word is absolutely ridiculous read more
